Liam
Monike had been making a ruckus. Apparently, her body had metabolised the sedative quicker than expected and she was up again within hours, making life hell for his medical staff.
‘Very typical of her! You are the one who wanted to marry her!’ His Lycan sneered.
‘I did not WANT to marry her. I HAD to agree to the proposal. It was too good to resist. Have you forgotten that the other clans weren’t particularly friendly to the rogues?’ Liam rebuked the Lycan.
It was the wee hours of the morning.
He wondered if he was going to get any break tonight. It wasn’t as if he was too tired. On the contrary, his time with Ira had put him physically and mentally in the best condition ever. He just wanted to go back to his bedroom and watch Ira sleep.
Her small frame on his bed filled up his thoughts. ‘I like it. Let’s go back!’ his Lycan replied happily.
‘We aren’t going back. I have to clear this Monike issue!’ Liam insisted and walked into the hospital.
Monike’s loud screaming and hollering could be heard from the entrance and he rolled his eyes knowing that he had to face his demons now.
In the critical care unit, Maggie stood in front of Monike who was restrained to the bed. They had to take the extreme step as the woman was hollering, insisting on meeting Liam.
Once Liam arrived, she quietened down.
“Is this how you f*ckers treat your patients?” Monike barked with as much contempt as she could manage, gesturing at her tied up hands. Liam winced, looking at her hazel eyes light up with tears of anger, lips retracted and teeth bared.
She looked like a crazed out vampire without the vampire canines and pale skin. Although with her fair skin and her contemptuous nature, she could have passed off as a very good vampire.
Her condition did not look good. She was propped up on the patient bed with different machines attached to her, humming and beeping. Her IV line had slipped out and the IV tube dangled next to her bed. His staff had managed to dress the wound on her elbow.
Her hands were restrained on either side of her body by belts tied to the bars of the patient bed.
She desperately shook her restrained legs that were tied to the bars at the lower end of the bed.
This is bad! Co Ma is going to go ballistic if this is reported. Even if he did not need Co Ma’s help any longer, he couldn’t just treat Co Ma's baby girl like this.
“Maggie!” Liam roared. “Why the hell is she tied?”
“She hit a nurse. It is good that we are werewolves and have exceptional healing or my staff would have been a patient in casualty right now. Prime minister's daughter or a pauper, rules of the hospital are the same for everyone.”
“That is not for you to decide. Release her.” He growled and gritted his teeth.
“Sorry Alpha.” Maggie looked down and walked towards the bed to open up the restraints. Liam’s Alpha aura was too strong for her to protest. She looked angry, but could not do anything. Like the mate bond, another werewolves' law was following the order of the Alpha, with no questions asked.
Once Monike was free, she purred. “Where were you? I did not see you. I was so scared! How did this happen?” She asked in her high pitched voice and pointed towards her head.
Liam walked towards her and sat on the chair next to her bed. She looked so weak and vulnerable! One stupid mistake of asking her to prepare for the engagement and he had a mountain of a mess to manage.
“I am sorry Monike.” He sat stiff, making sure he did not touch her. No more wrong signals! Things had to change!
The beeping of the machines increased a little, indicating the increase in her heart rate. He did not need the machines to tell him. He could already hear the increased rhythm of her heart.
He was making her nervous, but he had to inform her. He owed it to her. “Your accident happened because of me.”
She looked completely stunned with her eyes wide open and mouth agape. Liam asked Maggie to leave them alone. Once Maggie was out of earshot he began. “I know you don’t remember, but after the dinner, on our date, we went over to my place.” Her heartbeats continued to increase.
He requested her to relax and explained in short what had happened, omitting the part where Ira had reappeared. That would mean a worse situation to manage. He did not want Ira to be blamed.
He was guilty of asking her out to date and then taking that stupid pill and taking her home to f*ck.
“I don't understand! You pushed me?” She frowned. He nodded his head, and she peered into his eyes with a deep frown. “But why?”
‘Blame me. She can’t fight me. I am just a beast for her and she doesn't trust animals. She doesn’t respect the werewolves Liam’s Lycan chirped. He seemed happy.
“It wasn’t exactly me. It was my Lycan. He did not want to have s*x.” He grimaced, knowing that while it wasn't a lie, it wasn’t the complete truth either. Liam, himself did not want to have s*x with her.
"Did not want to have s*x? That's weird! You had s*x with me before! We have had a good time together. What happened to your Lycan suddenly? Is it because he has changed from a weak werewolf to a strong Lycan?" She asked, her frown smoothening out and contempt clear on her face again.
Liam's wolves were right. She was a vindictive b*tch! She was instigating his Lycan, knowingly.
He grimaced at her reference to their previous hook ups. That time too his wolf wasn't really happy but he hadn't connected with his mate yet and he was under the poison that Miriam was feeding them.
"Could be! I am not sure." Liam shrugged.
"Does he have difficulty in getting his d**k up?" She snarled, her heart racing. Whether it was anger or anxiety, Liam wasn't sure.
Liam's Lycan roared in his head. 'Ask the b*tch to shut up.'
Liam tried to control his Lycan, but the id*ot slipped through and responded in a gruff voice, "I's you. I was repulsed by you and did not want to have s*x with you!" Saying he receded..
"He did not mean it. Don't take him seriously," Liam tried damage control. But Monike raised her hand to stop him from speaking.
“Oh! How will it work for us in the future? Will he always push me whenever we want to have s*x?” She looked genuinely troubled. Her frown had returned, gone was the contempt.
“No." Liam gulped. This was the right time to come clean. "We will not have s*x in the future. I don’t think we should get engaged.” The words weren’t completely out of his mouth and the machines started beeping frantically.
Maggie dashed into the room. “Alpha! Out! She is sinking.”
Two casualty nurses entered, along with Maggie. One pulled the resuscitation machine, and the other placed the mask of the resuscitation bag over Monike's mouth, while Maggie began CPR. She started barking out instructions, which made little sense to Liam, so he stepped out and went into the special waiting room that was meant for him.
He paced, wondering what he was going to do next. Maggie came over almost an hour later.
“How is she?” He was worried that she was dead.
“She could have died. What the hell were you thinking? She is unconscious right now but stable. The bleeding in her brain is still progressive. Her skull has holes, she is here to be under observation twenty four- seven! What did you tell her?” Maggie chided, her voice a little higher than Liam was used to. But Maggie could get pretty psyched when her patient was threatened. He admired that in Maggie.
“That we need to call off the engagement.” He mumbled.
“Are you out of your mind? She will not get engaged to you today whether you cancel the engagement or not. Can’t you wait until she is stable?” Maggie raised her voice further.
Liam’s heart dropped. If he was to continue with this facade, what did it mean for him and Ira?
“It is about your mate, isn’t it? Is Ira actually your mate?” Maggie’s voice softened.
He nodded. He did not trust his voice right now, and he did not want to appear to be weak.
“I am sorry, Alpha. But Monike’s condition is very unstable. On top of that, she is a human. Her healing abilities aren’t as good as ours. This isn’t an appropriate time for her to know that you are abandoning her for your mate.” She stated.
It was Liam’s turn to flare up. "What the f*ck does that even mean? I am not abandoning her! I have found my mate, for Goddess's sake!" He raised his voice and his Lycan projected his aura.
“You found your mate now?" She c*cked an eyebrow. "The same mate who has been living on our property? No point in getting angry. You would have known Ira was your mate when you met her the first time! Yet you decided to go ahead and announce this engagement with an obnoxious b*tch. It isn’t her fault that she feels entitled, you gave her that power. And it surely isn’t her fault that she is stuck here in the ICU because of the person she believed she was going to get married to.” She walked away, leaving him with his thoughts of anger and frustration.
Not knowing what to do next, he left the hospital to go to his favourite cave.
