Liam
He walked into the library c*m study and his heart went into a crazy rhythm. His Lycan howled in happiness as he saw Ira sitting on the couch casually in her beautiful blue dress, her legs folded up. The colour of the dress went well with her eyes. No matter what she wore, she managed to look exceptionally beautiful in it. Her gorgeous hair fell in waves over her exposed shoulders. His finger tingled to move the hair away from her shoulders and expose her neck.
The dress had ridden up her thighs, exposing her delicate skin, that he wanted to lick and taste. His inner beast stirred, and he wanted to r*vish his mate. Bella sat next to Ira, pouting at her and telling her to meet the members of his pack. He shook his head as he felt jealous about the relationship that Ira shared with Bella.
He had to stop their conversation before it went any further. Ira had to know what was happening. He had been at the hospital the entire day.
He did not want to come across as rude, but between hiding his arousal and planning to give the 'not so good' news to Ira, his words came out extra rough.
He knew Bella wouldn’t mind, but he saw Ira’s frown and the open mouth, Moon Goddess! She looked offended He was going to face the music soon enough. If only he could get to close her mouth with his own before the music started.
He ran his fingers through his hair, turned on the shower and stood under the cold running water. A cold shower would help him compose himself.
His hospital visit did not turn out as planned. In the morning, he was looking forward to ending everything with Monike. He would have called off their engagement, which was to happen only after two days, and he was then going to let Co Ma know.
Co Ma could not move them from this reserved land anymore. The alliance was with the rogues now.
But once he reached the hospital, everything went down the drain! Literally! Monike had a subdural haemorrhage because of the impact on her head. It was gradually progressing and the pressure on her brain continued to rise. If nothing was done quickly, she could even die!
These bloody humans are so fragile! His hospital staff had been monitoring her condition and had decided for emergency surgery to drill Burr holes in her head to relieve the pressure. They had left a catheter in to continue to drain the excess fluids from her head.
Now they would have to keep her under observation for a few weeks, then fix those holes in her skull. Only then could they allow her to leave. On top of that he had to inform Co Ma about the accident.
Liam had waited in the hospital until Monike regained consciousness so that he knew she was alive and doing better. But to top his worries, the woman had no memory of the incident anymore. He wasn’t even sure what all she had forgotten, although the doctors assured him that the amnesia is usually related to the incident of the injury.
He sure hoped so. He wouldn’t want her to be crippled for life. The way the doctors read out the list of complications, he felt terrible to be the reason behind her health condition.
Now he felt crappy to feel aroused and bothered with Ira, completely forgetting the woman in the hospital. I was f*cking dating her! I can’t be so inhuman! He thought and banged his fist against the wall.
‘Oh, you can! She had been shitty trying to get into your pants even when you said no. What you did was self defense. And don’t you feel guilty about our feelings for Ira! She deserves a doting mate.’ His Lycan pitched in. That did nothing to reduce his frustration.
Finally, after a few minutes, he headed out of the bathroom, wore his white bathrobe, and stepped out. He had to walk through his library to get to his bedroom.
He was seriously considering getting renovations done. His room designs seemed awkward, now that Ira was also staying with him. As he stepped into the library, the little vixen still sat on the couch in the same blue dress with cute white daisies printed on the dress, which he hadn’t noticed earlier.
‘How would you? You were busy noticing her thighs!’ His Lycan exclaimed gleefully, pulling up images of Liam’s and Ira’s morning together before Ira had disappeared.
‘Oh please! Just stop, will you? I need to speak to her first. She needs to know about Monike.’ Liam gritted his teeth as he moved towards Ira.
‘Monike is a c**k blocker! If we get blue balls tonight, I am going to chop your balls off!’ The Lycan growled angrily.
‘Really? These are your balls too!’ Liam rolled his eyes as his melodramatic Lycan began the silent treatment.
Ira was lost in the book, so he quietly sat beside her, watching her. Her eyes appeared zoned out as she read one page after another at an impossible speed.
He stared, mesmerised, with the scent of tropical summer wafting from her, teasing his senses and hitting a nerve directly between his legs.
Every ripple of desire was so alluring, and the frustration of holding back was equally daunting. He did not want this moment of peace to end, where he could continue to watch his mate.
What if Ira decided to head back to Melbourne now that his lineage has been discovered? Her agreement with him was technically over.
No way! I have to stop her. I can't live without her.
He was also not sure what the two jackasses from her past were planning, why Sarena had felt that she was safer here, and why her entire family agreed to this.
Knowing Sarena now, he knew the old woman was onto something, but she wouldn’t tell him until it was the right time.
“What are you gawking at? Don’t you think you have a lot of explaining to do?” Ira’s sweet voice rang in his ears, pulling him out of his contemplation. Her mouth moved as she spoke and she licked those pink luscious lips, which sent a jolt of want all the way down to his d**k.
F*ck! This is more difficult than I thought! He got up before making a fool of himself. Turning away from her, he walked around. He couldn’t face her, couldn’t see her accusing eyes when he would say what he had decided. He had to give her complete freedom to choose what she wanted, even if it meant a lifetime of pain and longing.
She had the right! He had given her enough pain.
He explained Monike’s medical condition quickly. He told her about the diplomatic involvements.
How he wanted Monike to stay until she was completely fit to return, and finished his rambling, saying, “I leave our future to you. I want to be with you. You are my mate, but Monike came to this land as my betrothed under my protection and care. Now she lies in the ICU under observation with an uncertain future. I would have to tell Co Ma what happened last night. I will not disclose your involvement, so no harm will come to you or your family. But, Monike will need to stay here until she is completely healed." He gulped.
Ira hadn't said a word yet. Will she give him a chance? Before his resolve failed, he continued, "Do you still trust me? Would you still like to accept me as your mate?”
His Lycan howled as he completed his sentence.‘How could you! She is going to reject us now! We have never given her a reason to trust us! You id*ot!’ He continued hollering and whimpering while Liam pushed and blocked him with every ounce of energy that he could muster.
Ira got up from the sofa and left the room. Although his back was facing her, he felt her leave as her heavenly fragrance left the room, leaving him in a dark void.
His world crashed around him, and he headed to the bar. Only the burning of a stiff whiskey could ease this pain. His Lycan whimpered and slowly became silent, as if lost to the depths of his mind. The deafening silence drove him mad as he poured himself his favourite poison.
She did not even see my face! Did not bother to even say something! I deserve this pain of rejection. His thoughts played havoc with his intellect as he headed with the bottle of whiskey and his glass to the library. It had become his haven for the last few weeks.
