Ira She opened her eyes to a warmly lit up room. It took some time to register that the constant rocking of the boat had finally stopped. She felt Liam’s familiar scent engulf her as she moved her head on the pillow to take in the interiors of the bedroom. It had changed very little since she was here a few weeks back, or was it months? I shall need to check the calendar. She would need to know how many days she had lost in her failed adventure and she had to finish her job here and leave. It should be easy, though. Now she knew Liam was Remus and Diana's heir. The last few hours had been agonising. With the experience of the pain of betrayal, she knew what she had to do next. She had to reject her soul mate. Although the Moon God would surely punish her for this heinous deed, she was not strong enough to go through that unbearable pain again. A single tear leaked from her eye. It’s sad! Everything is so horrible. She could neither harness her power to save the wolves nor was she good enough for her own soulmate, who was supposed to complete her and make her stronger. He loved Monike! All stories of childhood felt like they were fake and hogwash. “You are up!” The sexy, gruff voice spoke. Relief dripped from his tone, making her turn towards the chair at the side of her bed. She did not want to speak with him. No matter how soothing his voice was. No matter how alluring his scent was. He had made out with another woman, knowing what it would do to her. He was a werewolf! For f*cks sake! He would know. Wait a minute! Didn’t Diana say that he was their heir? Is he a Lycan too? If I failed in saving the wolves, shouldn’t he vanish? The thoughts made her sit up a little too quickly. Many days of very little nutrition were showing their effect. Her head swirled, and she closed her eyes to keep it steady. When she opened her eyes, James stood opposite her with a big smile on his face. She turned to Liam again. He had a pained expression. What was going on in his head? Later… She turned towards the bedside table and this time James said, “how are you feeling? It took a while to get you back. You were totally zonked out!” “I am fine! Give me that damn book!” She responded as she tried to reach it. The book levitated. “Princess! I hope you don’t want to go back there!” Liam said as the book flew towards her. She gave him a stink eye and ignored him. She turned to James and growled. “You don’t need magic for such small rooms. Just walk! A little exercise is good for your lazy bones!” James shrugged his shoulders and held his hand up laughing. “Welcome back, odd duck. It's not me… I won’t dare to rile you when you look like that!” She glared at him and got back to the book. So Liam can levitate stuff too! Just like Remus. She had to see it though… And there it was, the page that she was reading before her world changed. A loud, whooshing sound at the other side of the bed made her anger melt. “Nana!” She turned around and tried to get out of bed. Her head swayed again with lightheadedness, and she fell back. “Careful my child!” Sarena walked slowly over to her bed and held her hand while Kirra sprinted and sat at her feet. She was watching everyone, slowly taking in her surroundings. Liam sat still and quiet. He still looked sad. “Quick Ira! Read it! I am dying to know!. You have no idea what Sarena has been up to.” Then Kirra looked at Liam and said in a serious tone. “You have been amazing. Take my bow! I don’t think anyone could have managed to haul themselves out of this magic. It must have been really tough! How were you even able to push off the woman. She was pretty persuasive” Liam shrugged and looked down. Ira couldn't believe what Kirra was saying. And Liam was actually blushing! Wasn't he going to tell Kirra that he did not? It wasn't Liam! It was Ira who had pushed the b*tch. Where was the b*tch anyway? Ira continued to hold Sarena’s hand while she observed the conversation. She had still not forgiven Liam. And his behaviour was only making it obvious that the Moon God had made a mistake. He was an untrustworthy assh*le with zero integrity. Meanwhile, Sarena conjured up a chair and sat down comfortably, still holding Ira's hand. For an old woman she was surprisingly agile. “Please read. We all are eager.” Sarena prompted. Ira nodded and began… ***** King Remus and his Witch Mate Queen Diana decided to save their clan. They gathered all the packs that had sworn allegiance to them and embarked on a perilous journey to find a new world. As their ship rocked through troubled waters, they slowly ran out of food and drinking water. With no land in sight and no respite from the agony of the sailing ship, their survival was threatened. King Remus was an intuitive Lycan and Queen Diana knew of magic that could show her the future. Together, they decided to do the unthinkable. Queen Diana was a powerful witch with the element of Ether. She locked herself in the embrace of dark ether and performed the forbidden ritual of Prying into the Coming Age. It is a well known fact that altering the future can be disastrous, but she was a gifted woman and her cause was noble. The Moon God of the witches guided her to The Fair Maiden of the New World. The Fair Maiden had locked herself from the world of the witches and was living like a mere human. Queen Diana used her magic to unlock the barriers and Lady Ira arrived on the ship. Lady Ira was distraught to be away from her family and her mate, the great King Liam…. ***** Ira stopped and rolled her eyes. How patriarchal!! Why does his name have to follow everywhere I go? The person who went through this crazy portal was me. I survived the stupid sea and turned out to be a powerful witch; I am the one who had to go through deathly agony, and here he is mentioned without doing anything. “What happened, darl? Please read further.” Sarena implored and Ira shook her head. “I am tired. Can we please do this tomorrow?” Ira pleaded. “You can never be tired of books! What is the real reason?” This time it was James who asked. He, too, had conjured a chair and while Ira was reading, Kirra had gone over to sit on his lap. What would he know about the pain of betrayal? His mate was right there with him! James' baritone filled up her mind as he responded to her in her thoughts. He would have known she was suffering. ‘He did not betray you, sweetie. Sarena made him do it. That was the only way to weaken your defences and open up the portal. Sarena was constantly providing you with the strength to deal with the pain. And you know what? He fought Sarena’s magic! He pushed that woman off when he needed to! You were in too much pain to notice his hands with your own as you slammed against the woman! She is still in the infirmary, thanks to your combined assault! Give him a chance!’ The room was silent as James, and Ira gazed at each other. Sarena and Kirra knew that a conversation was in progress. But the odd Lycan in the room was getting restless. Ira felt his restlessness before she heard the words. “ENOUGH! If she says she will do it tomorrow, we will do it tomorrow. She needs food and rest. Please leave! EVERYONE!” Liam’s voice roared through the room with enough power to make the wolves of the entire rogue land bow. Kirra slumped closer to James, but neither James nor Sarena flinched. “Boy! Don’t interfere with the witches.” Sarena tapped her staff and a bowl full of delicious soupy noodles appeared in front of Ira, arranged neatly on a tray with serviettes, cutlery and a pitcher of water. Small chunks of juicy chicken floated along with greens in the warm soup, making Ira’s mouth water. How she had missed the comforts of her own world! Sarena’s voice softened. “I should have known you would be tired. Liam’s right. You need food. Have this while James reads the rest.” She then pointed her staff to Liam, and a table appeared between him, pushing him away from the bed. He growled but stopped as different types of breads, soupy noodles and fruits appeared on the table. His tummy rumbled loudly enough for the entire room to hear and Sarena chuckled. “And you, boy! You need some food too. You have been off any meal for far too long! I did not see you eating much when you were on your date” She winked. *****
