I couldn’t sleep all through the night and neither could Violet. She scouted the area after we came and stayed outside for a couple of hours.
She joined me inside later when the cold became a bit too much. We sat up all night. Not saying anything to each other. Just sitting and staring until it was dawn.
Violet disappeared at the first break of light and returned when the sun had set.
“When are we leaving”

“I know what I said. But there has been no instruction to move. It simply means it’s not safe”
“I got a few things” she said depositing the bag she brought on the floor. My stomach rumbled and I was reminded of my hunger.
