The sirens' call cut through the chaos, a distant, almost surreal sound that grew louder until it felt like a roar in Ethan's ears. After what seemed like an eternity, emergency personnel arrived, and he stumbled back as paramedics swarmed around Keir's mangled vehicle.
They had to cut through layers of crushed metal, slowly peeling back the wreckage that held him captive. Every second was agony. Ethan’s eyes were fixed on Keir, horrified at the unnatural angles of his legs, both visibly broken and bent beneath the steering wheel.
But it was the jagged, blood-streaked piece of metal embedded in Keir’s chest that made Ethan’s heart nearly stop. It pierced through him, into the back of the seat, impaling him with a precision that seemed as if death itself had marked him.
