1. First meeting
Unknown's POV
I had to leave another town before they caught up with me again. It was such a f*****g shame because I was starting to like that town. But here I am, walking through the forest to another town, yet again. I swear this is a pain in my ass.
As I was walking through the forest, I saw a smaller path leading down into the forest. I stopped and looked around. With the way I've been going, they will be on top of me soon. They wouldn't expect me to go into the forest itself. I haven't done that in a while, it's mostly been town to town.
If it puts more distance between me and them, then it's better to try it. They won't be expecting it. Especially not here in wolf territory. The last couple of towns I ran through all said they have wolves in the area. So I assume this upcoming town won't be any different. So down the mysterious path and into the woods I went.
After nearly falling down this stupid steep path multiple times, I found out it leads to a hot spring. I was hoping for a cabin or more trails to make it harder for them to find me, but a hot spring is a nice surprise. It could have led me to a f*****g bear's cave or, knowing my luck, more hunters.
I need to refresh myself after all that running and walking I've been doing. A bit of a splash of water on my face would be more than welcome. I walk up to the spring and kneel to it. I bent forward and reached down into the water. I look down into the water as I scoop some water into my hand. Wait... There's something in there... I leaned down closer to the water surface. Is that a man? I stared down at him, trying to see if he's alive or dead. That'll just be what I need; a f*****g poisoned hot spring.
His head slowly lifted up as he looked up at me. How long has he been there? I wonder why I didn't hear any sounds of splashing coming here.
Oh s**t! He's coming to the surface. I leaned back away from the water. I pull the dagger from the holsters on my back and ready myself for an attack.
He breached the water and I swear my breathing hitched in my throat, even if it was for a moment. His handsome features stunned me to the point I dropped the dagger and fell back on my haunches. 6 feet tall, broad muscular shoulders, muscular and tight chest. The muscles on his arms were big and made him look insanely buff. A dark brown beard that almost touched his chest, with hair that was past his ears giving him that wild look.
He's a werewolf, no doubt about it. But is he the only one in the area?
He started climbing out of the water and I couldn't help but stare at him as the water trickled down every single flexed muscle on him. I couldn't help but back away from him as he climbed out. He was by far one of the most masculine werewolves I have come across. He glared at me, then his eyes shifted to the dagger. He reached for the dagger and examined it the entire time he stood up properly. He twirled it in his hand and examined it further. s**t! Why the f**k did I drop it and why the f**k did he pick it up? That is my favourite dagger.
"Why are you here?" He asked in this deep, almost a growl-like, husky voice. His voice made my palms sweaty. He pointed the dagger down at me. Which made my blood begin to boil. "Are you deaf, human?" He growled out.
First of all, where the hell does he get off pointing MY dagger at me? Secondly, who the f**k does this werewolf think he is? I stood up and glared at him. "That is none of your f*****g business." I spat out at him. I grabbed his hand and attempted to get the dagger out of it.
Fuck sakes, let go!
I'm not getting anywhere like this. He's too strong. Stupid ass werewolf strength! He just pushed my hand away before I could try to get it again.
Wolf's POV
I'm tired of this world. My heart aches every single day since it happened. I want to end this, but my werewolf healing is too strong and I can not even kill myself without the use of A, wolfsbane, or B, a silver knife. I don't know about you all, but it's not found in the local town market.
So I waited for a hunter to come close and try my luck with them, but those cowards couldn't even hit the side of the barn if their life depended on it.
For now, I will just have to settle for having this hot spring to soothe my troubles. I tried to drown myself in it once and it spat me out. Yes. Spat me out like some spoilt food. So, I never tried that again.
I submerged myself and allowed the warmth of the water to engulf me. I hadn't been under for even a minute when I heard someone approaching the hot spring. I mentally rolled my eyes. Great, someone to ruin my mood already. Normally I would have to go near the town for that. The footsteps stop, so I look up and see that a young woman is crouched down, staring down at me.
'What could she possibly want in my territory?' My wolf, Raphael, growled in my head. 'How am I supposed to know? Does she look familiar to you?' I growled back. 'Go find out and get rid of her. Her stares are disturbing our peace.' He huffed before going to the back of my mind. I swear he has never liked any other women after our mate. 'Fine.' I said to him as I made my way to the surface.
I climbed out and saw this woman staring at me. I like my effect on women, but Raphael does not. Women often stare at me with aww.
I examined her from toe to head.
Flat black shoes. Don't women normally like a bit of heel on it for height? Long toned legs. A tight red dress that fitted her like a glove. A hood that matched her dress that draped behind her. Her dark brown hair was tied on top of her head in a braided bun.
She's not from the town here, not with the way she's dressed.
Something catches a few of the sun's rays and blinded me before I met her gaze. I looked towards it and saw an oddly-shaped dagger. I bent down and picked it up. I can practically feel the stinging sensation coming from the silver blade. As I hold onto the dagger, the handle is what caught my attention the most. It's made of white ivory, shined and buffed to give it a polished look.
I twirled it in my hands and noticed it had a small flower carved into the ivory near the hilt. It looked like a lily, my mate's favourite flower. Raphael growled loudly in my mind as my heart started to ache.
I couldn't help the growl that escaped my lips as I spoke, "Why are you here?" Unfortunately, she seemed too stunned by me to even register that I spoke to her. This made me more upset. I pointed the dagger down at her, "Are you deaf, human?" I glared down at her as she stared at the dagger.
To my surprise, she stood up and grabbed my wrist. "That is none of your f*****g business!" She spat at me. I must say her actions amuse me. It has been a while since anyone has stood up against me. She twirled my hand and grabbed onto the dagger. She must be trying to get it from me. I pushed her hands away gently. After all, she's human.
Once her hands were out the way, I held it up to her throat. "Do not test my limited patience. Answer my question." I growled at her. She looked down at the blade and I swear I saw a hint of a smile appear on her face. She pushed my hand to allow her to get closer.
What came next stunned my wolf and myself. She slapped me across the face, and hard. I nearly dropped the dagger as I stepped back and looked at her. Her face was as red as the dress she was wearing. "I've answered your question already, dumbass!" She threw a punch and it connected with my shoulder.
I don't know if this woman is suicidal or if she is insane. I don't even know if she's human. Her punches are stronger than those of some of the male hunters.
I looked down at her in confusion. Normally, after an outburst like that, humans would be begging me to spare their lives. This one, however, is standing up to me. I'm sure I'm almost two feet taller than her but...
I was brought out of my thoughts by her right hook that connected with my jaw. I fell back into the water of the hot spring. What's with this woman? Does she not fear me?
I looked down at her dagger in my hand. How dumb I was not to have realized it sooner. A silver-bladed dagger was brought to me. I finally have the chance to end this once and for all. I plunged the dagger into my chest and let go of the handle. Allowing the dagger to remain in my chest will make sure I can't heal.
Red's POV
After my right hook connected with his jaw, he stumbled back and fell back into the hot spring. With my dagger?! Why couldn't the dumbass just have dropped it?
I leaned over to see what he was planning on doing now. When I saw him stab himself in the chest. What the actual f**k? He just stabbed himself... If those bastards that are following me find him, they will have more motivation to catch up with me. Especially if they find my dagger in his f*****g chest.
So I do the only sensible thing I can do. Which is to jump in after him. I swam up to him and pulled my dagger from his chest. He didn't move a muscle. f**k! Don't tell me he's dead already. I grabbed hold of him and pulled him up to the surface. I held his head above the water as I looked down at the wound. It was healing fast. Faster than a werewolf should heal from silver.
It could be one of three cases.
First, he could have a good healing factor, which would make him an alpha. Possible, but it means I'm f****d if his pack finds me and thinks I did this.
Second, he could be immune to silver. I haven't encountered any that are, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any. But if that were the case, why would he have done it?
Thirdly, this hot spring isn't the normal run-of-the-mill kind of hot spring. If so, then I don't want to be here any longer than necessary.
Before I could even try to drag him up onto dry land, the water around us forced us up like a fountain and onto the dry land. I sat there staring at the hot spring. "What the f**k just happened?" I looked back at the werewolf as he sat up. I breathe a sigh of relief, he's still alive. He looked at me, then at the hot spring. "You can say that again." He mumbled out as he rubbed his head, I assume he hit his head when the hot spring spat us out. "Stupid thing. Won't let me die in peace.". He growled. I raised my brow as he said that.
He wanted to die? What the f**k is wrong with him? If he died, I would get blamed! He wanted me to take the blame for his suicide?!
I stood up and slapped him. "Find someone else to take the blame for your suicide, wolf!" I spat out before I walked towards the rest of my things.
Great, my hood smells of that stupid wolf's blood now. I take another dagger out of the basket before I take off the hood. I pinned it to the tree and picked up my things before looking back at him. His eyes held a mixture of sadness and pain. Why do I feel like going to comfort him? I hate emotional people. I hate them because I can't understand emotions like pain and sadness. I've never been able to replicate it, no matter how hard I tried. Seeing other people in those states angers me.
I turned away and tried to fight the urge to go to him. Because if I did, I might just beat him up more and that is probably not what he needs now. I take one more look at him as he stares down at the hot spring. I sighed and put my things down before I walked up to him.
"Hey," I said as I walked up behind him. "Why are you trying to kill yourself anyway?" He stood up and turned sideways. "Why do you care, human?" He growled at me. I clenched my fists.
I'm trying to be a nice person and not kill you. So just answer my question, you suicidal wolf! How I wanted to scream that at the top of my lungs at him.
But instead, I answered him as calmly as I could muster."There was something I saw in your eyes, that's why." He stared down at me. "My eyes?" He said like he was lost. Great, now he's the one that's hard of hearing. My patience has officially run out with him. "You know what? I don't care." I turned around and made my way to my things once again.
He grabbed hold of my arm and pulled me closer to him. His eyes had changed from brown to blue. Normally, it's the other way round. Blue-eyed wolfs? There was something special about them, wasn't there? f**k, I wish I could remember now. But I wish his grip would lessen, his claws are practically in my arm.
"What did you see in my eyes?" Like seriously? I chuckled and shook my head. "They are your eyes." I spat at him. "Why don't you know?" His growling increased ten-fold. This is somewhat amusing. If he wants to die, then I might as well get some amusement out of it. "What did you see?!" He practically roared in my ear. I still refused to answer him and only chuckled as I attempted to free my arm from his grip. "What's in your eyes is your business and not mine. I'll be on my way." I said as I pulled my arm away from him. As I pulled my arm away from him, his claws ripped through my arm.
I walked back to my things, picked them up, and made my way back up the steep path going back to the trail that to the town.
Wolf's POV
Why the hell did she pull the dagger out of my chest? I sat there in thought as she approached me from behind. "Hey." She said, that word sounding like honey slipping off her tongue. "Why are you trying to kill yourself anyway?" She asked as she stood behind me. All her words did was bring the dying ache to a burning blaze in my heart. She had taken away a chance for me to finally be back with my mate. I stood up and turned to my side. "Why do you care, human?" I growled at her. But she didn't even flinch. I'm about to rip her to shreds for reminding me of how much I'm hurting right now. She slowly blinked before she balled her fists. "There was something I saw in your eyes, that's why." She said through gritted teeth.
'What did she see in our eyes?' Raphael asked. 'Dude, does it look like I know?' I replied. 'Find out what she saw in our eyes.' He commanded me like some pup, not like I wasn't going to do it anyway.
Her statement confused me and all I could muster to ask was, "My eyes?" Like I'm some confused kid who didn't know the meaning of her words. This seemed to annoy her as she turned her head away from me and spat out words filled with venom. "You know what? I don't care." She turned and walked back to her things.
'Stop her!' Raphael growled before taking control. He grabbed hold of her and pulled her closer to us before she tried to run away. She stared up at my eyes. Since Raphael had taken control, they must have been blue. Even though she is staring into my eyes, I can't bring myself to look into hers. Everything always seemed more eye-catching. "What did you see in my eyes?" Raphael said as he started digging his claws into her. She lowered her head and shook it before she chuckled. "They are your eyes." She spat out at me. "Why don't you know?"
She's trying and succeeding at pissing Raphael off. He growled loudly at her and again she didn't flinch. Normal humans would have been in tears. "What did you see?!" He growled louder at her. She just chuckled and tried to free her arm from my grip. "What's in your eyes is your business and not mine. I'll be on my way." She said before she ripped her arm out of my grip.
She ripped my claws out of her arm, leaving deep gashes. She didn't cry out in pain nor shed any tears. She merely went to pick up her stuff and left me gawking at her as she made her way back to the trail that goes to the town.
'What the hell is she?!' Raphael shouted in my head. I couldn't help but ask myself that question as well. She wasn't afraid of me, she was strong and she just ripped my claws through her flesh like a leaf stuck to her arm.
Eventually, when I came back to my senses, she was gone. But she had left her hood pinned to a tree by a plain-looking dagger. I pulled the dagger out of the tree and sniffed her hood. It reeked of my blood, but it still had a faint smell of her scent.
I held onto the hood and dagger and walked back into the forest. I would use her hood to see if I can't pick up her scent again.
