Fighting For My Mate: Blood Moon

Chapter 14

Christa POV

     It’s been three days since Eli’s father disappeared from his prison cell. Ever since Eli got the call that he was gone, I haven’t seen him. He’s been joining the hunt with the hunters and warriors to search for him, and the whole pack has been on high alert. Amanda hasn’t left my side ever since Eli mind-linked her to stay with me. I know that she’s been on edge as well. I’m getting restless, though, staying cooped up in this apartment. I feel that the trick that I learned to disguise myself has gone out the window, and I feel angry and resentful towards Eli’s father right now. Not that I didn’t before, but that feeling has grown since his disappearing act. I can feel Eli’s emotions through our link, and he hasn’t been taking it well at all. No one can understand how he could escape in the first place, but the fact that not even the best hunters and trackers can catch ahold of his scent is confusing and frustrating. We’ve theorized that Lex has played a part in this, but the question is what he would want with him? Someone on the inside had to help with his escape, so I think it’s safe to say we have a trader in our midst. I need to figure out how to do my part to help the pack, even if it’s to act as support. The problem is to convince Eli, my brothers, and Amanda that I need to support the pack with whatever needs they have during this stressful time. Amya and I can feel the stress from the pack members; even though we’re not officially their Luna, the pull to them is still there, and it’s growing stronger and stronger the longer we aren’t there doing our part in this pack. So, I come up with a plan to get Eli to see how much this pack needs their Luna, even if they have no idea who I am. That doesn’t matter; they need someone to help take some of that stress off their shoulders to function better.

**Eli**

     Three days it’s been since my father has gone missing, and we’ve been searching for him night and day with no sign of him anywhere. I suspect a witch has been involved in him disappearing because there is no way he could just vanish without a trace. We would have been able to catch some kind of scent, but it’s as if he literally vanished into thin air. After the third day, I decided to call off the search, much to my dismay. It’s time to come up with a new plan. I mind-link my hunters and warriors.

“Hunters and warriors, it’s time to fall back and come up with a new plan. Pack elders, high ranking hunters, high ranking warriors, my Beta, and Gamma meet me in the conference room in 30 minutes.” 

“Yes, Alpha.” They all say in the mind-link at once. 

     Ever since my father escaped from his prison cell, our pack has been on red alert, the highest form of threat a pack can be on. This is why I am getting my higher-up ranks together to form a contingency plan. I have my team of 15 men of the highest ranks gathered in the conference room, each of them with an important role.”

“Seth, I want you to take Rebecca with you during your searches for my father.”

“Alpha, may I ask why Rebecca? What can she do to help?” Seth asks hesitantly. 

“Rebecca is a witch who I trust. If they are using a witch to cover up their tracks, then Rebecca may be able to be of help to uncover those tracks.”

“Yes, Alpha,” Seth says as he bows his head in respect. 

“Evan, I want you to prepare the pack for an evacuation if worse comes to worst. I want you to make sure the women and children are first to escape. I want you to have a handful of warriors to stay with them for protection, and the rest of our warriors will stay here to help fight. I’ll call the surrounding Alpha’s to help support us if it’s needed. If my father is helping Lex, then we’ll need all hands on deck.”

     I give each of them an important task to prepare for the worst. I can’t take any chances when it comes to my mate. Once we finish coming up with a game plan, we all disperse from the room. 

Now, it’s time to go and see my beautiful mate. 

**Christa**

     It’s late in the night when I hear Eli sneaking into the bedroom. I pretend I’m still asleep as he quietly makes his way into the bathroom to shower. It makes me smile at how careful he is when he tries not to make a sound as not to wake me up. Most of the time, I wouldn’t have woken up because Eli is really good at not making a sound, but unfortunately, I had already been awake when he snuck into the room. 

     The nightmares at night have been progressively getting worse and worse. I wake up panting, unable to catch my breath with cold sweats. It’s always the same; I’m in a field where Lex has me and Eli surrounded. There isn’t anywhere we can go. I am helpless because, for some reason, I can’t use my powers. I find myself walking to Lex willingly as he has an evil glint in his eyes with a knowing smirk on his face. I can hear Eli yelling my name, but I can’t respond. The next thing I know, my back is against Lex’s as he holds a knife to my throat. I try to beg Lex not to hurt Eli, but no words will come out of my mouth. Before I even have time to blink, Lex throws the silver knife that he had been holding against me towards Eli, where it lands directly into his heart. Before I wake up, the last thing I see is the life going out of Eli’s eyes as he looks at me as though he’s failed me. That look haunts me every single night. Every time I awake from the nightmare, my face and pillow are soaked with tears.

     Eli has been gone most nights since his father escaped, so when I have them, he’s not here with me. It’s all for the best anyway. He has enough to worry about; the last thing he needs to concern himself with are my nightmares. 

     I hear the shower shut off, and shortly after, I feel a dip in the bed as I feel his arms encase me. I sigh in relief and feel his warmth comfort me as he pulls me into him in a loving embrace. Before long, his breaths become heavy and even, and as I focus on his breathing, my eyes slowly become heavy as I too fall into a deep sleep once again with my mate finally at my side.
