chapter 4

I sat there for what seemed like hours watching the cctv footage trying to find anything that would tell me Valor was there. I also used it to get a layout of the house to be able to maneuver around it better and be able to see where they put him. I was so intent on the footage that I didn’t even hear Java walk up behind me and stood there. He cleared his throat making me jump, I looked over at him and knew I had been caught and would need to explain.

“What are you watching?”

He sounded as though he didn’t care that I was on the computer but he was more interested in what I was doing.

“Some people took a puppy from my family and I followed them to this house but because I live so far out I don’t have the time to find him before anything bad happens.” I was staring intently at the computer watching the footage as the lie just flew out of my mouth before I realized it.

“Well let me help you.”

He grabbed out another small computer from a drawer in the stand next to where we were sitting. He then took the computer that I had and handed me the other, I looked at him in confusion.

“I can’t hack and I am guessing that is how you got that video on here. I will watch these ones and you can watch those on that one. We will split them up to get through them faster. Sure enough about two hours later Java spotted a man carrying a smallish cage with what looked like a dog in it. I leaned in closer and noticed it was Valor and he was here. Now to plan how to get him out of there without breaking our pack’s main law, now killing the humans.

“We can figure out a way to get your dog back. They seem to really have taken your dog, so I will help you get it back. For now let's go to bed and talk in the morning.”

I only nodded my head then followed him up the steps. He went to the door and opened it revealing a room.

“This is my room. My mom put you in the guest room next to mine in case you felt uncomfortable being on the other side of the house by yourself. My mom's room is this one.” He said and pointed to the door on the opposite side of where my room would be. He smiled and walked in his room shutting the door behind him, leaving me in the hallway. Yawning I started to head into the room I am using, I stopped when I walked over to where the bed was and looked between the bed and the floor. I shrugged my shoulders and grabbed the blankets off the bed and put them in a pile on the floor. I curled up on the blankets and soon without realizing it when as I was laying there thinking about Valor I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up to Java and Ashley talking which to me seemed really loud. I opened my eyes to notice that the reason why it was so loud was because they were in the room I was using, staring at me while shaking their heads. I jolted up in a sitting position looking at them c*****g my head to the side with a confused look on my face. Java was the one that spoke when he realized my confusion.

“Why are you sleeping on the floor?”

“Ooh. I..I think the bed is uncomfortable.”

They just stared at me with their mouths open, Ashley was the first to get over what they apparently thought was shock from my answer she immediately said she was going to go make breakfast. Leaving Java and I in the room alone, but once he got out of his shocked state he started asking me questions about where I am from and about my family. Once he realized that I wasn’t going to answer any of these kinds of questions he decided to change the subject about Valor.

As soon as we got done talking Ashley hollered up the steps letting us know that the food was done and to come eat. Both of our stomachs growled from hunger, making us laugh and started heading to the eating room. Ashley told us that she was going to head to the store for the things she was lacking for dinner. As soon as she left we started to go deeper into our plan to get Valor and how to get him back home with me. We planned it to where once we stole back Valor that we would come back to his house and hide for about a couple days then me and Valor would sneak back to my place. We decided on this incase they would find out that I took him back and head straight to my house. We were going to strike tomorrow night to give us time to prepare ourselves. We went to bed early so we could get up sooner and go to the store to grab some things we would need for tomorrow night.

I woke up from Java hollering for me to hurry up and get up so that his mom would drive us to the mall. He had planned on getting us to come pitch black clothes to blend in the night. After we got back to his house from the mall it was starting to get late. Java and I had found a pawn shop that had a few things in it like a lock picking kit and a grappling hook connected to some strong rope. Once it got dark enough Java and I had set out with the only thought of getting Valor back and I was anxious hoping he was not harmed. I opened up Java’s computer and hacked back into the security camera and messed with it for a few minutes to make it freeze so it won't capture us breaking in. We took the grappling hook and threw it up to the top of the big wall that was blocking our path to the house. We climbed the wall and jumped down the other side. I had heard someone approaching where we landed and pulled Java with me behind a bush to hide until the person passed us.

We snuck inside the house and I had Java follow me because I had already memorized the whole layout and I didn’t want him to get us caught. We went to the basement door and opened it walking down the steps. I heard a whimper coming from the back of the basement. I quickly went to where the whimper was and opened the door that was blocking me from getting to Valor. What shocked me was the fact that once I opened the door it wasn’t just Valor that was there it was a lot more wolves in cages. I was so shocked that they had captured all of these wolves and I also noticed among them was Demon, my brother. I went over to his cage and opened it.

“What are you doing? These are wolves, they will hurt us if we let them out.”

“I am not abandoning my family. If you are afraid of them then leave and I will get them out myself.” I screamed at him.

He was hesitant like he wanted to say more but I told him I would explain once we left with them. After yelling out to Java for help he hurried and helped me open all of the cages.

As soon as all the cages were opened Demon walked over to me and rubbed his body against my legs indicating we should hurry and leave. I wasn’t thinking anything of it when I answered his gesture that Java saw the whole thing. He even heard me calling Demon brother.

“Why did you call that wolf brother?” he asked but before I could answer someone came walking down the steps of the basement, the foot falls were heavy which meant it was a male human. Valor and some of the other wolves had shrunk back in fear of the human that was closing in on us which made me so very confused. Why would they be afraid?

“We need to hide.” Java whispered and I saw Demon telling the others to get in the cages and pretend to be sleeping to make it seem as though they were not just about to escape. Java and I hid behind Demons cage since he is the biggest wolf here and his body would hide us.
