In the heart of a bustling city, a young woman finds herself pulled into a world that she had been reading about in a book. As she begins to uncover family secrets that have been hidden from her, she realizes that her life is intricately tied to an ancient realm of magic and power. Navigating this new world is daunting enough, as she tries to find her way back home. Verity soon discovers she's being watched—two enigmatic twin brothers seem to be shadowing her every move. Initially, their intentions are unclear, leaving Verity to question if they are allies or adversaries. As she delves deeper into her family's history and her own latent abilities, Verity must confront the shadows of her past, make alliances, and outsmart those who wish to control her.

Back in Town
Verity’s POV “Another day,” I sighed, wrapping my arms around my knees as I stared out to Blue Veil Lake. My toes dipped into the warm spring water. I could hear the laughter from the town square as the new school year drew close. It was the autumnal festival. It was still so warm considering it was August but this was the south and it was always hot here. They were praising the new gods for a good year or whatever they claim here. Everything felt so foreign though I had only been gone a summer and yet it felt like a lifetime. Things had gotten so complicated at the end of last year. I felt my eyes begin to sting at the memories of last May when things began to crumble. My skin crawled with the “panic attack.” they called it. It sure didn’t feel like one, it felt like my entire body caught on fire. I stripped down and slipped into the water, the warmth slipping around me. It was nice as I swam out into the middle and began to float. When do I get to go home? I stared up at the sky. Staying in this world was exhausting. What kind of gods would do this? Send me to this world alone, Sora was probably frantic; my poor wolf. Or I wondered would she just stay in her wolf form? There wasn’t any clue really why I was placed here. It had been 3 1/2 months since I woke up in Verity’s body, the day of her first panic attack. “f**k it,” I chuckled. I was tired of being careful, I didn’t want to mess with the storyline of the book too much. I’m just going to be me. I walked into my house, it was so still. I could hear the clacking of keys from my fathers office. I made my way down the hall hoping not to disturb him. “Ver bear,” my fathers soft voice called for me. “Yes?” I peeked into his office. His shaggy blonde hair messed with him ruffling it so much. Damn she got her good looks for this man. “Are you going into town?” he looked up, his soft brown eyes bore into me without so much of a fiber of hate for me; it was a look I wasn’t yet used to. “It’ll be good for you to get back out there and show your face.” “I was thinking about it,” I lied. I didn’t want to worry him with any isekaied nonsense. “Good, you need to get out and enjoy life,” he smiled at me, such love and warmth that I didn’t deserve. I just nodded and walked to my room; whatever that caused the issue in May had calmed down already. I hadn't had an attack since June. Ethan just wanted me to try enjoying life again. “Damn,” I sighed and threw on a pair of black jean shorts and a turtleneck sleeveless body suit. “Just an hour,” I looked at myself in the mirror. “f**k it, let’s get drunk.” I didn't even recognise myself. This body's hair had grown so long I brushed it up into a high pony tail. The black color looked almost blue in the right light. My eyes had turned into a rose brown color. My skin had gotten so pale being up north in the summer but being back here I may get my tan back. I wonder if my mate would love me if I were in this body? I grabbed my locket, wrapping it around my neck twice and slipped on a pair of vans heading out. “Bye… Dad I’ll be back soon,” I announced as I walked out of the house. Making my way through the bustling town music played by the buskers echoed on building walls. People were recording and making videos for social media. It was a good vibe for the most part. I could see the shadows everywhere, the darkness that now lies in people. That’s something I had to get used to when being in this world. I could see people, their true emotions. I grabbed my first shot and a doe mask that would cover half my face. I didn’t think anyone would try and bully me but you just could never know. Humans were cruel and I could see who was the cruelest. Another shot followed by another and another. My head had finally started feeling fuzzy and the aura around people lifted. Finally I thought to myself I can unwind. The vibe outside had gone from fair to rave. I joined the crowd and started letting bodies grind against me. Everyone had on masks, so it was pure ecstasy not knowing who was who. But almost like a shadow in the corner of your room I could feel someone watching me. I ignored the feeling; no weird s**t tonight, just fun. A few hits of a pen that was being passed around and I could feel my mind going numb. Hands began to feel up on me. I didn’t hate it, but it began to get rough. “Dude chill,” I mumbled out. I was definitely a bit more gone than I thought I was. I needed to get home. I tried getting out of the crowd but the hands grabbed me roughly, my shirt being tugged at. This was getting dangerous. Hands went into my shorts and panic was wracking through my brain but my body would not listen. Another pair of hands wandered down inside my shorts. f**k f**k f**k. Please someone, anyone notice what is going on here. No. Please not now. I could feel my body heating up. Damn it no. “What the f**k is wrong with her?” One of the pair of hands questioned. “She's burning up. She’s probably ODing so lets f**k her while shes alive,” the other pair laughed and began to lift me up. “Stop,” I growled. I may not have my wolf but I still had a wolf's soul. I forced the pain deep down and shoved off the men stumbling out of the crowd. “Man f**k her, dumb slut,” one of the voice chidded.
