Acacia’s POV
My wolf congratulated me for at least standing for myself and I smiled inwardly.
I took the envelopes and carefully hid them in a drawer before going back to meet Felicia in the kitchen.
“What took you so long?” She asked me.
“I was trying to get a little nap,” I answered.
“Such a lazy ass.” She responded laughing.
“Prep those vegetables, the meat is almost ready.” She told me.
I proceeded to do what she had asked me to do.
My wolf nudged me to engage her in some questions, especially one about the spies they had caught in this pack. Maybe I would understand where Davis is coming from.
“Apart from the last spy you told me about, have there been any more spies in this pack?” I asked her.
“No, but he did enough damage that more than ten spies would have done.” She answered.
“Wow.” I sighed.
“Must have been devastating.” I added.
“Yes, especially our family since we are the guardians of the pack.” She stated then opened her eyes wide in shock.
“I should not have told you that. It's a pack's secret.” She added.
“Oh, you have nothing to worry about. The secret is safe with me.” I assured her.
“I keep failing this family.” She said, sadness evident in her tone.
“Why? How?” I asked.
“I've said a lot already. I don't want to talk about it anymore.” She answered.
The once bubbly Felicia, had now become so sad, thanks to my wolf for giving me bad advice.
I frowned inwardly but my wolf still nudged me to continue.
“At this point, you want to put me in trouble,” I whispered to my wolf.
“Don't you want to hear more? You can never tell what you can find.” It responded.
“I'm sorry you and your family had to go through that,” I said softly.
“Davis was more broken than the rest of us.” She started.
“He was just nineteen then and he was really into the guy, they talked about everything and anything.” She continued.
“Then he was discovered a spy by the alpha, Davis was imprisoned and later demoted to training instructor instead of a chief guardian like my dad.” She added.
“My dad was only lucky because he wasn't at home that period so he wasn't blamed.” She concluded.
“Wow. That explains why he hates me so much.” I said.
“Well, I could say yes but that's not really an excuse to hate people. Dylan hurt me too but I don't hate you.” She shrugged.
“Dylan?” I asked.
“Yes, the spy. That was his name.” She answered.
“We had an affair. He could f**k real good and I was obsessed.” She added.
“He took my innocence and my heart. I was the last person to discover he was a spy…” She trailed off, sob escaping her mouth.
I patted her to stop her from crying.
“It's okay.” I tried to console her.
“He promised to marry me. He even marked me.” She stated, showing me the mark underneath her neck that I hadn't noticed before now.
“Now I don't have a chance of finding a mate. Although his death has broken the bond we had, however, it's hard to connect with male werewolves .” She explained.
“The worst thing is that I didn't even know that he was caught. I kept calling him, but his number wasn't going through. All the while, he was at the pack's dungeon.” She added.
All of this proved to me that unlike her brother, she trusted me. I didn't want to take her trust for granted.
“Until he was brought to the square and beheaded. That was when I knew about all the horrible things he had been doing.” She concluded.
“Horrible things like?” I asked.
“He was a messenger of a very vicious Alpha who wanted to take over all the lands. I think his name is Alfred or Ulfred.” She stated and I was shocked.
I wondered what would become of me if they knew I was from his pack. No one would believe that I was running away from him.
I made sure to make it my top secret. Thankfully, nothing followed me here to indicate that I was from that pack.
“They came to attack one night, and killed our former alpha but the guards were able to stop them before they could cause more damage and they retreated.” She added.
“But don't worry about any of it. Our security has been tightened and our new alpha knows what he is doing. He will no longer be able to attack.” She concluded.
She still looked sad like she had remembered something really hurtful, my wolf picked the instinct and nudged me to ask her.
“It seems there's more,” I asked her.
“It's just... Enough ranting for today.” She said, holding up her hands.
“Felicia, you know you'll feel better when you say it out,” I told her.
“That was what led to my punishment. I used to be a training instructor, but I stopped.” she stated.
“It was my life. The only thing I loved doing. Aside f*****g Dylan.” She joked.
“It was taken from me. Now the only way I can make money is by clearing my parent's farm.” She concluded.
I pulled her into a big hug while patting her back and whispering to her that she would be fine and we will figure out a way out of this.
She kept sobbing and I didn't know what to do, so I decided to tell her a bit of truth about me too.
“Someone lied to me too,” I stated.
She suddenly looked up to me, she was interested in the story.
“I took them as a family but when it was time to pay up their debt, they thought I was a good idea.” I continued.
“No one told me anything about it, during a pack festival, my step parents just mentioned out of nowhere that I will be given off.” I added.
“Next thing, I'm tossed into the house of a terrible man. He even locked me up in the dungeon once. He cheats with a lot of women. To him, I was just the price to pay up my step-parents’ debt.” I concluded.
“Now I see why you ran away.” She stated.
“I had to. There was no future for me there.” I answered.
She looked relieved and patted me in return.
“We would surely get through this together.” She stated.
She got back to being the bubbly Felicia I knew and I was happy.
“Let's serve the table.” She told me with a smile and we started to prepare the table for breakfast.
“Breakfast is ready!” I heard her announce it as soon as she was done and sat down to dish her own meal.
I could hear footsteps walking towards us.
“Oh, you're a darling. I'm so famished.” Her dad said as he joined us on the table.
“Same here. Last night was…” Her mother trailed off.
“Something interesting happened last night?” Felicia asked them.
“Hmm hmm.” The father said with meat in his mouth.
My heart skipped a beat as Davis walked into the dining room.
Felicia looked at the both of us suspiciously as we stared at each other.
“I have an announcement.” I spoke up.
“Now don't tell me y'all already started dating. I hate surprises.” Felicia stated.
Her parents laughed it off and looked at me to continue.
I took one last glance at Davis. His eyes screamed ‘I dare you.’
I wanted to prove to him that I would do anything. I stood up, went to bring out the envelopes where I kept them, and placed them in front of his parents.
“I found this in Davis' room.” I told them.
They looked at me like they expected more words from my mouth.
When none was forthcoming, the mother proceeded to ask.
“What are we to do with this information?”
I looked over at Davis and he had a huge smile on his face.
Felicia seemed confused for a moment but later came to realize.
“Oh was this your big plan to get Davis to let you join a team? By blackmailing him?” Felicia stated and started another round of laughter.
The rest of the table joined in.
“Wait what?” the father asked.
“Davis stopped Adele from joining a team at the training ground today. She has been looking for possible ways to make him change his mind.” Felicia explained to them.
They erupted into another fit of laughter.
I looked at all of them in confusion.
“Adele, we didn't know about this but this is Davis' life. We don't go about sneaking into people's lives and secrets.” His dad started.
“If you continue like this, we might not let you sleep in his room any longer.” The mom added.
“I told you guys it was a bad idea. She is even a thief.” Davis said.
“Now Davis, don't make this matter worse than what it is.” His dad warned.
Then he looked at me.
“Davis has been through a lot these past few years if going to school is going to help him. We won't be stopping him.” He started with a tone of finality.
“Now let's all eat our food.” He said, more like a command.
Davis glanced at me with a look that said I wasn't getting on his good side anytime soon.
