Acacia’s POV Apart from the hunger that was trying to tear at my insides, my mind was burdened with getting a plan to get on Davis' good side. Felicia took a quick bath before telling me to come to the kitchen and join her to prepare breakfast for the family. “Where's your mum and dad?” I asked her. “Probably still asleep.” She shrugged. “Seriously?” I asked. I was surprised they could sleep this long while Felicia woke me up so early in the morning. “Yes. They hunt far into the night so it's safe to say they are nocturnal animals.” She laughed at her joke. “Oh cool,” I stated uninterestedly. She pointed at a big bag over the counter at the end of the kitchen and asked me to fetch it. As I moved closer to it, I could smell blood. My wolf stirred within me. I opened the bag to find a dead gazelle. “One of their prey last night. Dad likes to keep his first catch fresh while the rest are kept in a freezer.” She explained. “A freezer? What's that?” I asked her in confusion. She pointed at a large white container and asked me to open it which I did. It was filled with a lot of dead things, animals, fruits, and vegetables. Surprisingly, they didn't stink and they were very cold. “It's a technology to preserve dead things and make them look fresh when you're ready to eat them.” She explained. “We use a lot of technology here.” She added. “That explains the bright light that's always in the house even when outside is dark?” I asked her. It has been on my mind for a while now. “It explains almost everything you will find in our pack. Technology makes things easier.” She said happily. “I thank Alpha Wolfman for allowing us to explore the world of digitals.” She stated. I smiled at them. Their alpha sounded like a cool one. My enthusiasm that came with discovering new technology soon died down when I remembered that I wouldn't be joining a team. With the lot of technologies in this place, your wolf is the only thing that connects you to your true nature and I was being denied the opportunity to connect with it. “Adele, you worry a lot,” Felicia said, noticing my worried look. “I already told you that I will teach you myself.” She added. “It won't be able to make up for the stuff I would learn in a group,” I told her. “Davis is a hard nut to crack. You're wasting your time if you think he will do what you want.” She stated. “Trust me, I've been there. I just learned to tolerate him.” She added. “Give me a minute.” I told her and excused myself from the kitchen. “Don't do anything stupid!” She shouted behind me. I stormed into Davis' room, hoping he had not come back from training. I tried looking for what to use to blackmail. Checked his books and drawers but there was nothing there. Frustrated, I dropped on his bed to lie down a bit and my eyes caught a neatly folded paper that was placed underneath his table lamp. I opened it to find a lottery ticket for over a million dollars. I gasped and quickly folded it back. As I tried to return it, the drawer opened, I was shocked. There was a compartment underneath his table lamp that led to his safe. I opened it more to find another envelope filled with money. There was a little writing on it and when I checked it was ‘Money for Institutions’ I figured for him to have kept it so strategically, it must be a secret from his family. This was a good way of blackmailing him. “What are you doing here?” I heard Davis's voice ask me. I trembled and hid the paper behind me. “I w-w-was trying to sleep.” I stammered. “You're only allowed to sleep here at night. Your lazy ass can sleep in the farm any other time you want to sleep.” He hissed, pointing to the exit of this room. “Now get out.” He commanded. I was about to take a step forward when he noticed the envelope behind me. “What is that?” He asked me carefully. He looked taken aback when he recognized the envelopes. “Are you also a thief amongst other things?” He asked me. “No, I'm not. I'm going to tell your parents about all the things you've been hiding from them at breakfast.” I threatened him. He suddenly started to laugh. I couldn't tell if that was a good sign or a bad sign. “I just blame my parents for letting you share my room with me. It is obvious you have no boundaries and you do not respect other people's privacy.” He stated. “I thought you were just an intruder by mistake. Turns out you're even more. You're also a thief and a fraud.” He added. “I can't wait for everybody to see you for who you are. I hope all your secrets come to the limelight. You slime.” He concluded. The more he insulted me, the more tempted I was to cry. What have I done to deserve such hateful words? “Wait till your parents get to know about this and let's see if you'll keep laughing.” I added. “You better drop that envelope now.” He commanded. “I won't. See you at breakfast” I stated and walked towards the exit. He tried to grab the envelope but I yanked it away and went into Felicia's room. “You know what? I'll let you have it. Only to prove your stupidity.” He said. “Or you can promise to add me to a team and all of this will be over in a second. We can now work on being friends.” I told him, trying to hide my tears. “First of all, I'll never be friends with a thief, a spy, and a manipulator.” He answered. “Secondly, I don't care what you do. I'm never letting you join our training.” He added “What exactly will it take from you if you let me join?” I fired back at him. “It will take my dignity! My dignity!” He snapped. “What dignity?! I was told you are passionate about the growth of the pack. Why then are you holding me down?” I shot back. “You are a threat to our pack and I won't use my hands to train someone that will later destroy our pack.” He spat. “What do you mean? I'm here to seek asylum. I've said this multiple times.” I said between sobs. I could no longer hide them. “That is what they always say. I'm not moved by your tears or manipulations. I don't care what my family thinks, I know who you are. You are a spy!” He snapped. By this time, I had hoped someone would have walked in on us due to the way we were shouting at each other but nobody did. “My room is soundproof. You can keep shouting all you want. No one will hear you. If you want them to, go and meet them and show them your damn findings.” He added, just as if he could read my mind. “f**k technology.” I muttered. “I only care about training. Please let me join, I will do everything to prove to you that I'm not a spy.” I said calmly. “You don't have to prove anything to me. I'll find out by myself and when I do, consider yourself a dead meat.” He threatened. “Since you're only going to remain stubborn. I'll stick to my plan.” I told him. “Good luck with that.” He answered. “You should be on your way now. Else you might be late.” He joked. “But let me sound this word of warning to you, whenever you try this rubbish with me again…” He trailed off. “Going through my things without my permission, ransacking my room. I'll make sure you sleep in the farm till you get your place.” He said, causing me to shiver. “I'll only let this one slide because I want to humor you.” He added. “Why exactly do you hate me so much? What did I even do to deserve this hate?” I asked him. He laughed out loudly for a minute. “You really want to know what you did?” He asked me. “Of course. That's why I am asking.” I replied. “I have a bad feeling about you and my instincts are never wrong.” He answered confidently. “What if it is this time?” I asked him. “Let's see about that first.” He responded. I considered trying to seduce him since we were the only ones in the room but I couldn't bring myself to do it. However, it will only make him think the worst of me. “Can you get out of my room now?” He asked subtly. I hesitantly walked towards the door and he stood up to follow me. As soon as I opened the door, he grabbed the door lock. “A single dime must not get missing.” He warned me before pushing me out and locking his room.
