Accalia POV “Her quest for attention-seeking is just over the place. She cannot help it.” I heard the disgusted voice of Davis. I opened my eyes to see people rushing towards me. “I'm fine, I'm fine.” I assured them while trying to stand up on my own. Davis rolled his eyes at me. “What are you doing here?” He asked me. “I was going to ask for your permission to join a training section,” I told him. “You don't have it. Go home.” He responded and was beginning to walk out. “Davis!” I mistakenly shouted his name. “How dare you?” He stared at me in anger. “Get her off the field now.” He told the guys behind him. They didn't hesitate to throw me out. Felicia shot me a disapproving look. I knew at this point she was already tired of me making silly mistakes. “Please!” I shouted to Davis as I struggled with the guys that were about to throw me out. All of my pleas fell on deaf ears. I watched as he walked away, his team following behind him like loyal flocks. I wonder why he hasn't moved past me hitting him. It was just a mistake and he was making it seem like a big deal. I picked myself up and sat at the entrance of the field, looking at them through the wired fence. Luckily for me, they were still very audible so I could hear all the training instructions. I moved closer to where the invalids were to hear what they were being taught and probably apply it on my own since I could not join them. While others were practicing their instinct, precision skills, and some advanced running techniques, the invalids were taught to focus their minds. It seemed stupid. “When you focus your mind away from the distractions around you, you connect deeper with your inner wolf.” The instructor stated. Then I realized I hadn't connected with my wolf. Yes, sometimes I hear her and sometimes I feel her nudge but aside from that, there has been no real connection. Was that really why I was powerless? I wondered. “We'll start with a breathing technique. It is called the twenty minutes breathing technique.” The instructor continued. I listened intently. “Close your eyes, everyone.” She commanded. I joined them to close my eyes. “Now take in a deep breath for twenty seconds and release it for the next twenty seconds.” She commanded. I took in a deep breath and did as she said. It was greatly relieving, as if I had put all my sorrows and cares away and just basked in a personal reflection moment. “Breath out now.” I heard the instructor say. I was so lost in my head that I didn't realize twenty seconds had passed. I breathed out and opened my eyes. It felt marvelous. “Now I can tell by the smile on your face that it seemed very relaxing right?” She asked them. They all echoed a “Yes boss”. I made a mental note. They call their instructor's boss and not their first name. Maybe that was why Davis seemed pissed. “We are going to do that for twenty minutes. Same routine. Are you ready?” She asked them. “Yes, boss.” They echoed excitedly. I was excited too. “This time around, make sure to search for your wolf.” She instructed before blowing the whistle. I instinctively closed my eyes and repeated the routine, this time with a purpose, to find my wolf. After the third routine, I felt her nudge. My lips curled into a smile. I succeeded at the first assignment. “Finally” I could hear my wolf sigh. It felt surreal having to know that my wolf could do more than just sit in my instinct. It could actually talk to me. “Hi once again,” I said in my mind. It was refreshing to know I had someone I could talk to without opening my mouth. If I had known, I wouldn't have felt so alone in the woods or even without Felicia. I could just be comfortable talking with my inner wolf. I smiled at the thought. The routine came to an end and I tried to nudge my wolf internally, surprisingly she responded. I was elated. However, I needed more. I needed more than just to sit outside. I wanted to be a part of the people taking training. “Stand up and take a straight walk while talking to your inner wolf. I'm sure by this time you must have met him or her.” I heard the instructor say. I stood up immediately but was interrupted by a tall figure who was looking at me questioningly. “Who are you and why are you here?” The young-looking man asked me. “I'm Adele, Felicia's cousin. I'm here with her.” I answered, remembering Felicia's command not to say much to the pack members. “Cool.” The man stated. “So why are you outside instead of inside joining the training?” He asked me. “Hmm, I fainted and instructor Davis said he wouldn't let me join any team,” I told him. “Davis said that to you?” He asked me, looking surprised. “Yes, he did,” I answered. “Wow, that's surprising. He is really big on growth so I'm confused as to why he doesn't want you to grow.” He replied. “Anyway, I'll talk to him.” He added. I was so happy to get that reassurance. I wanted to be part of the training too. I watched as this man walked straight into the training ground and was greeting people. My eyes searched for Felicia, she was with a group of men giggling. “I see why training is important to her,” I muttered. She waved at me as soon as her eyes caught mine and started to walk towards the exit to meet me. “Hey there? Enjoying your timeout?” She teased. “Surely. I hope you're enjoying your workout session with the boys too.” I asked her. “Silly you.” She said, giving me a playful pat on my shoulder. “I saw you talking to that man. What were you guys talking about?” She asked me, pointing at the tall man that had shown up earlier. “Nothing much, he just wanted to know why I'm outside and not inside with the rest of you,” I answered. “Hmmm, wait. Did you tell him you're my cousin?” she asked all of a sudden. “Yes,” I answered. “s**t!” She cursed. “What? Wasn't that what you wanted me to tell everyone?” I asked her, looking confused. It seemed everything I did was wrong. No matter how right it seems. “That's Austin, He's a friend to Davis so…” She trained off. “Oooh,” I exclaimed when I realized what she meant. “He would know it's a lie,” I whispered. “Definitely.” She answered. “But I don't think that will be a problem.” She added. “Cool because he wants to help me talk to Davis about putting me on the team,” I told her. “Don't even think about it. No one can convince Davis to do what he doesn't want to do.” She told me, killing every hope I had in Austin. “Why did he reassure me then?” I sighed in frustration “Sorry, dear. Just forget about it.” She told me. “I'll be back in a few minutes and then we will go home.” She stated before running off back to her friends. I went back to my spot and decided to try the routine I had missed out on earlier. I stood still for a while before walking in a straight line and trying hard to connect with my wolf without faltering. It was hard at first but as I continued practicing, I was more concerned about reaching my wolf than walking in a straight line. Soon, walking in a straight line didn't seem hard anymore, it was as if I was instinctively controlled while connected to my wolf. This was one skill I didn't know I could possess. All I needed was to connect with my wolf and every inner part of my body would be awake. My inner eyes, ears, brain, everything seemed open and working. I tried to close my eyes and walk. Surprisingly, I could do it without bumping into anything or anyone. “Very soon, you'll be able to see with your inner eyes.” My wolf told me. I was happy. ‘But if Davis did not let me join a team, how was I going to continue training?’ I wondered. Felicia came back with her things and we started to walk back to where she had parked her car to drive back home. As we drove back home, I just kept staring out the window sadly, watching other cars drive by and houses along the road. “You're still thinking about Davis right?” Felicia asked me. “I want to be on the team.” I answered her. “Just let it go. I could teach you from home.” She offered. “Thank you very much but I'll also like a group experience,” I told her. “Alright. Do you.” She shrugged. I couldn't help but think about how to get Davis to let me join the team.
