Accalia's POV To avoid being suspected, I wrapped a few clothes and strapped a bottle of water to my clothes, and made my way out of the Leather stone pack. There was nowhere in mind to go to but I was determined to leave this hellhole. The sunlight across the sky was beginning to dim indicating evening was close. I walked as fast as I could and as far out of reach as I could. I couldn't help but wonder what would become of my parents at my departure. Knowing how vile Alpha Ulfred could be, I hoped he didn’t kill them. I was determined to get to a place where no one would be able to trace me. Far away from our very skillful werewolf trackers. The last thing I wanted was to be tracked, seen, and taken back to the pack. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me into the woods, avoiding people’s faces as I ran. The forest suddenly became quiet. I looked around confused as I could no longer hear the sounds of crickets and animals. It was as if they were hiding from something in the woods. I instinctively hid at the back of a tree to observe what was going on. After some minutes, I heard the sounds of horses coming towards my location. I stayed close to a compost ground, the smell was offensive but I needed to mask my scent until I was sure I was safe. I held my breath when I saw the face of Alpha Ulfred's top guard on the horse racing towards me. “They are searching for me already.” I gasped. “I can sense a faded smell of her. She was here.” He announced. Every other guard stopped their horses at his command. “Let's split.” He told them. “Three of you go that way.” He commanded, pointing with his right hand. “Three of you, go that way.” He told another set of guards, pointing with his left side. “The rest of you can go forward. I'll be here in case she tries to escape all of you.” He stated. I peeped to see that there were fifteen guards in total. They obeyed his commands and started to ride their horses in the direction they were given. His breathing was more pronounced, indicating that he was coming closer to where I was. I crawled away from my position, deep into the compost to mask my scent as fast as I could. “Come out now.” I heard him whisper. “We both know you're here somewhere.” He added. I stopped breathing. “I won't hurt you, I sent them away so that I can talk to you.” He added. There was no way he was serious. I knew how loyal he was to Alpha Ulfred. He was not going to help me. “The more you waste time. The more dangerous it will be for you.” He added, his voice sounded more like a threat. I held my hands over my nose to ensure I was not letting out my breath loudly. “Don't get me pissed. I know what you're doing.” He added, after a few moments. “s**t, I lost her scent.” I heard him whisper. He began to retreat slowly. I couldn't wait for him to leave where I was so that I could breathe comfortably, I was already running out of breath. I was so scared to check where he was so that he wouldn't see me. My head suddenly began to feel fuzzy and light. I was about to pass out. I tried to hold on longer but it wasn't working. I resolved to let out a deep breath and take more in to sustain me for some minutes. “There you are!” I heard him shout. I sucked in a sharp breath and closed my eyes as his footsteps became audible. I decided to look up at him since I had already been caught but stopped halfway when I heard his frustrated sigh. “Just a twig?” He stated, irritated. “I could have sworn it was her.” He said angrily, kicking the twig out of his way. He mounted his horse and rode away with the rest of the guards. I let out a huge sigh of relief. “That was close,” I muttered. Confused about where to go, I contemplated waiting for them to ride back toward our pack but how long was I willing to wait? I stood up and continued my journey, making sure to look out for them and hide whenever I heard any strange sound. “I found her!” I heard a faint sound from behind. I looked to find one of the guards pointing at my location. I took to my heels with all the strength I could muster h as I ran for my life. It was in times like this I always wished I possessed some amount of power, to be able to defend myself at least. They climbed down from their horses and started running towards me at the speed of light. I could barely see ahead, it was already nighttime and the only source of light was the half moon hovering over us. A cloud of tears covered my eyes, preventing me from seeing where I was running to. I just kept running away, to be far away from these monsters. My legs came in contact with what felt like a rock bringing me to my fall. I winced as the sharp pain coursed throughout my body. The guards were near and I could hear their pants as they ran towards me with vigor. I closed my eyes and let the tears flow freely. If anything, I had tried my best to run away and I had come this far. Even if I am caught, I can use more time to process another escape and a better one the next time. I slowly opened my eyes to see if they were already close as I couldn't hear any sounds from them any longer. “Surprise!” I heard the top guard say. I looked up to see him hovering over me. He stretched out a hand which I rejected. “Trust me.” He said softly, his voice reassuring. “Why?” I asked him. “You can pick me up and take me to your ruthless alpha,” I added. “I would have done that the first time you hid in between that compost heap.” He said, causing my mouth to drop in surprise. “Where are the rest of them?” I asked him as I stood up and did not see any of them in sight. “You do not have to worry about them for now.” He assured me. “Follow me.” He added, more like a command. I had no choice but to follow behind him as he led me through the thick woods. “There is a secret tunnel here that our men use to hide during war. I just need to look for it.” He started. “No one will be able to find you there and it will lead you far away from here.” He added. “Why are you helping me?” I asked him, unsure of if I could trust him. “Because of how brave you are.” He responded curtly. “Brave? I literally have no powers. I am the only powerless werewolf in the lethal stone pack.” I reminded him. “But so far you've been the only one to successfully escape from him.” He responded. “It is not successful,” I told him. “With my help, it will be. I have a good feeling about it.” He answered. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. We approached a very large cave and he directed me into it. “Wow,” I exclaimed as soon as we saw it. It was magnificent, I wonder how I never knew about this place. “It is beautiful” I stated. “Except that it has a lot of rogue werewolves roaming around it.” He commented. “What?!” I asked in surprise. “How am I supposed to survive that?” I asked him in confusion. “It all makes sense now. You brought me here so the rogues can feed on me.” I stated. He gave a small laugh. “Actually, I brought you here so that I can help you through the way.” He responded. “So that you can tell Alpha Ulfred my location?” I asked. “So that I can safely see you through the tunnel.” He responded. “Hmmm,” I sighed. “What's that sound?” He asked me, looking around. “Are you trying to emphasize how low my instincts are?” I said, rolling my eyes. I couldn't hear anything and I was sure he was just teasing me. Due to my lack of power, every other werewolf senses things sharper and faster than I do. “What about now?” He asked. I listened quietly trying to pick up the sound he was hearing but could not. Soon, a loud growl erupted from the tunnel causing both of us to stop in our tracks. I screamed at the top of my voice. “Rogues!!!” A huge brown werewolf showed up from the shadows blocking our passageway.
