I had the dream again last night, about a beautiful girl with jet black hair and soft brown eyes. It felt real, too real to be a dream. I mentioned it to my uncle and my mother a couple of times, but they didn’t have any insight about it, and my mother seemed distracted every time I spoke to her about it.
For some reason it felt real, and they keep telling me that it’s just a dream and probably means nothing. I spoke to Jordan about it, and he said that he would look into it. I have never had a vision or a premonition, but Jordan has, but he said that he has never had one in his sleep, they always happen when he’s awake.
I feel myself being shaken, I’m not sure why and for a moment I don’t even know where I am. Today has been a blur, from the moment I woke up until now. I look up and find Derek looking at me with a questioning look. I take a quick glance around the room and notice that I’m in the dormitory’s lounge room, sitting in one of the oversized chairs that face the large fireplace.
“What?” I ask looking up at him shrugging my shoulders.
Derek just stood there staring at me shaking his head. So many girls have tried to ask Derek out, I’ve been told it’s because of his light blue eyes, that seemed to pop out of his eyes and his blond hair and great skin. I wasn’t sure why he didn’t agree to go out with any of the girls from the Rebellion, at least with them they could talk about anything.
“John wants to talk to you.” He says sitting in the seat beside me.
He was wearing his comfortable clothes, which means that he had changed out of his uniform. I like the shirt, it is black with two blue stripes, one on the bottom and one on the side. His pants however I would never wear, they were old track pants.
I glance at him and realised that he was waiting for me to say something. I’m not sure why John would want to talk to me, no-one at the Academy that’s with the Rebellion wants to talk to me, they usually talk to Derek and he passes on the message.
“Is it important?” I ask, watching him play with his mother’s necklace.
She died a few years ago, and he hasn’t taken it off since the day his father gave it to him. I knew that Ezera wanted to keep it for himself, but Derek’s mother wanted Derek to keep it, so Ezera allowed it. Derek’s mother was an amazing woman, she was kind but firm. A lot like my mum.
“Can it wait till tomorrow?” I ask turning to Derek.
“He said that it’s important.”
“Tell him that I’m busy.”
“Doing what?” Derek asks standing up and confronting me.
“I’m tired so I’m heading to bed.” I say and turn to leave.
“It’s about that girl in your dreams isn’t it?” I hear Derek ask loud enough to get the attention of everyone in the room.
“I’m going to bed.” And I walk as fast as I can out of the lounge room.
After a few minutes I hear hurried footsteps behind me, I don’t want to look behind me, but I know there are only a few people that would come chasing after me and I was hoping that whoever it was, was going to leave me alone.
“You need to let this go.” I hear Derek say from behind me.
“I know she is real, and I’ll prove it to you.” I say spinning to face him, what I didn’t expect was to see the others.
“How?” Derek asked.
“I’m heading to bed, goodnight everyone.” I say and open my bedroom door and slam it shut behind me.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to prove it, I didn’t even know if the dreams were real, but what I do know, is that they are starting to affect my days. If it wasn’t for Derek telling me this morning, I wouldn’t have even known that today was Monday.
I had a singlet and track pants in my hands before Derek walked into the room, for a second I thought the other guys were going to join him, but he walked in alone. I’m not sure what I expected, but what I didn’t expect was for him to just walk to his bed and sit down facing me.
“You have two days to prove that the dreams are real, after that we are going to have to do something about your dreams.” Derek says staring at me.
“Ok, but I don’t think I’m going to need two days.” I say, more confident than I felt.
I am shocked by what I said and I notice that I’m not the only one, judging by the look on Derek’s face, he is also shocked. He stares at me confused, opening and closing his mouth a few times, at first I thought I had shocked him into silence.
“What do you mean, you don’t think you’re going to need two day?” He asks sounding shocked.
“I don’t know.” I say sounding and feeling distant.
I felt that something was going to change, and it had everything to do with this girl. She is going to either change everything for the good and the bad and I feel that it is going to help the Rebellion and she is going to be the force we need to move forward and it scares me that I don’t know how I know this and what is going to come.
“Are we going to have a problem with this?” Derek asks sounding worried.
He has a right to be, I am worried. But I am also energized and ready to fight. It feels as if she is the missing piece to the puzzle to get us where we need to be to take down the Elders. I just hope that she doesn’t join the Elders of the Elemental and Magic Society.
“No, I don’t think so.” I say.
I start changing so I can go to bed, knowing that tonight I will dream of her. I just don’t understand why I can’t control the dream, it’s like it’s on some sort of loop. I know what I’m saying, I just can’t change what I’m saying.
“John needs to talk to you.” He says grabbing my attention after I have changed.
“Can’t it wait.” I say feeling eager to go to sleep.
“No it can’t.” He snaps. “You need to stop thinking about the girl in your dreams.” He snaps.
“I haven’t been that bad.” I say sitting on my bed picking at the blanket my mother made me for Christmas.
“Really?” He asks sarcastically. “Today either myself or one of the others had to nudge you multiple times to bring your attention back to the classes.”
“Look I’m just…” That’s when I felt it, she was here and her emotions are all over the place.
“Your just what?” Derek asked, bringing my attention back to him.
“What?” I ask confused, more about the fact that I could feel her and not by what he had just asked.
“You started saying ‘I’m just’ but you didn’t finish.” He says sounding worried.
“I can feel her, I think she’s here, and I think she’s upset.” I say trying to concentrate on the emotions that I’m feeling from her.
“What?” He asks sounding surprised.
I raise my hand to silence him so I can figure out what was going on.
~
I feel myself being shaken and my dad calling my name, the plane trip was uneventful and when we landed it was starting to get dark and there was a man with short red hair and a grumpy look on his face waiting for us.
Dad says something to him and then he leads us to get our cases in silence. I look at dad who just shakes his head. We wait a few minutes still in silence for our cases to arrive and then he takes us to a black car where another man is waiting for us.
The men put our cases in the boot while my dad and I get into the back of the car. I look at my dad hoping to get a hint of what is going on, but he doesn't say or do anything, he just sits there waiting for the men to get into the front and start driving.
The man that was waiting at the car gets into the drivers seat and starts driving when the other man gets into the car. No-one says anything, so I place my head against the window and start thinking about what the Academy might be like.
“Selaria.” He says as I open my eyes and see him pointing to a gothic looking building. “We’re here.” It even has gargoyles on the roof.
“Awesome.” I say.
I notice that the light that I am seeing is from all the lights around the building that made it extremely bright and I can make out the sign above the door, Wickham Academy. I know a strange name for an Academy, I had asked if there were any other Academy’s, but dad said that there was only one Academy and then there was a college.
We get out of the car and the two men in the front stay in the car, a man with short blond hair and nearly a head taller than my dad comes out and heads over to my dad, wearing a black suit and says something to my dad and then grabs my bags. I look over to my dad and he just shakes his head. I’m not sure what is happening, but I follow my dad carrying the bag with my birthday presents.
We follow the man that came out down a corridor. We walk for what feels like forever through corridors and up a flight of stairs, until we reach a door, the man pushes it open and there is a woman with dark brown hair done up in a tight bun and wearing a bright pink blouse sitting behind the desk with a headset on her head, typing on a computer that is in front of her, and behind her I see that there is a large door and on the right of her beside the large door is a smaller looking door.
Looking around the room I notice that it looks like a waiting room, there are two couches and in front of those are tables with magazines I have never seen before on it. Going over to the nearest table I see that one of the magazines is the school magazine called “Wickham Power News” you have to be kidding right, and the other is “Darphargon.” That one looks interesting so I read the cover and it is all about magical weapons and news about the creatures that have been caught, as well as traitors that were found and that wanted to destroy the Elders. Good luck to them, let’s hope they succeed.
The large door behind the woman opens and Elder Zarconian steps through and has the same scary smile I saw when he arrived at the house. He is wearing a dark purple suit with a dark red tie, I don’t know who picks his clothes but they should probably stop and get someone else to do it.
“Welcome Selaria, I’m glad you are finally here.” He says coming toward me. He sees the magazine in my hand. “Ahhh yes it’s sad that there are people out there that wish to disrupt the peace.”
“Let’s hope they are caught and brought to justice.” I smile at him.
“How about you both come into my office and Dilan can put your things in your room.” He nods to the guy that brought us to the office, and then he opens his office door.
I’m not liking the fact that some guy is going to be taking my things and putting them into a room that had been selected for me and that I’m not even aware of who else might be in there. I don’t even know this Dilan guy and if he would go through my clothes. But it wasn’t like I could argue. My father must have thought I was about to because he shook his head and gestured with his head for me to follow.
We follow Elder Zarconian and when we get into his office, I notice that it’s three times the size of the waiting room. The first thing I notice is the big desk to our left with three chairs in front of it and a throne like chair behind it. I glance around and see another desk but a smaller one with a computer chair, a small glass table between both desks with four arm chairs around it, a fire place with two large arm chairs facing it and twelve bookshelves scattered around the room.
“It’s a very big room, I’m glad that I have a daughter and wife to help me fill it sometimes.” I hear Elder Zarconian say.
I didn’t realise I took as much time as I had. I notice both my father and Elder Zarconian are seated.
“You have a daughter?” I ask surprised, that anyone could love him let alone be that close to him, or maybe it was just because he is the head Elder and whoever they are wanted the power of being with such a man, I was a little afraid to ask about the wife.
“Yes I do, she’s in your grade and I do believe your room is next to hers.” He says smiling as if he is proud to have a daughter. “Maybe tomorrow I can get her to show you around and help you settle in more easily.”
“Thank you that will be great.” I answer sitting down on a chair next to my father and hoping my smiled didn’t look too forced.
“Do you know what you would like to become?” He asks looking between me and my father.
“I was thinking I would like to become a Watcher, I’ve read what I would need to be able to do and thought it would be the best option for me, since my powers aren’t that strong. But if I can’t then I was also thinking an Instructor, because again I don’t need to have a lot of powers and I don’t need to be that strong either. I put some thought into this and weighed up the pros and cons of all of everything I could become.” I say bringing his attention to me.
“I see.” Elder Zarconian says seeming to think about my answer. “Sounds like you put some thought behind this.” He continues and looks at my father.
“Of course, it’s a big decision, it’s my life and I need to choose a realistic choice, not something that I wish to become, but what I know I have a chance to become.” I say, a little annoyed that he is questioning my choices.
I seem to have shocked him, because he turns to me a little surprised. “I thought you’d want to become a Tracker like your father.”
“I would love to be, but I have to be realistic. I can’t find my stuff half the time.” I state with a small smile, well actually a sneer, but I’m hoping it looks like a smile.
My father laughs. “That’s true, it’s usually me that finds it.” He says shaking his head with a smile on his face. But we both know that’s not true, but Elder Zarconian doesn’t need to know that.
“Well then, I’ll have your timetable made up for you and placed in your room.” Elder Zarconian says and presses a button.
The woman from the desk walked in. “Yes sir.”
“Please do up a timetable for Watcher and Instructor classes and give it to Dilan to place in Selaria’s room.” Elder Zarconian says not taking his eyes off me and smiling, if you can all it that.
It was starting to get really creepy. It was like he was looking for something or trying to figure out something, but just couldn’t find it yet.
“Yes sir.” She says and walks out.
“With your timetable will be a list of rules and what the short terms mean.” He says, shuffling the papers on his desk, as if he was looking for something, but didn’t know where it was.
“Thank you, I really appreciate being given the chance to come here, both my dad and I thought that maybe my powers weren’t strong enough for me to come here.” I say trying to sound excited that I was here, even though I’m not.
Elder Zarconian turns to my father and starts talking about holidays and days parents are allowed to come to the Academy. I am looking forward to the holidays, I zone out of the conversation and start daydreaming about the guy in my dreams and for some reason I feel as though he is real and here.
I feel a nudge and I notice that my father knew what I was doing and is giving me the signal that it was almost over.
“Well I guess the only thing to do now is for your goodbyes and then Dilan can take Selaria up to her room and she can get settled before classes tomorrow.” Elder Zarconian says standing up. “Dinner will also be in her room as well as all her bags and everything else that she needs.”
“Thank you, I can’t wait to see it all.” I say standing up and leaning against my dad.
He looks down at me with a fake smile, but I know he’s got it there because he doesn’t want Elder Zarconian to know how much he hates that he has to leave me here.
“If there is anything you need Selaria please feel free to ask, my door is always open.” Elder Zarconian says coming around his desk.
“Thank you Elder Zarconian, I’m sure my daughter will.” My father says holding out his hand, finalising the conversation.
Elder Zarconian smiles and shakes my father’s hand saying. “I will also be expecting a report of what you find every day, we have a new system so you can email it.” With that my dad guides me out the office leaving Elder Zarconian staring after us.
He leads me back out to the car and pulls me in for what I think is going to be a quick hug until I hear him say. “Sweetie I don’t want to scare you, but if you don’t hear from me soon, then I’ve been killed and you will have to watch out for yourself.” I feel his head rise.
I try and look where he is looking but I’m unable to. “Dad what’s going on?” I ask in a shaky voice, trying to hold back my tears, scared of what might happen to him.
“I know you’ve been having dreams and I know that there is a boy in those dreams, but the other I’m not sure about.” He says bring his head back down to my ear. “Look for that boy I know he will keep you safe.”
“I know I should have told you more about them.” I say feeling a tear escape down my cheek, but he stops me.
“Sweetie I love you, don’t forget that. No matter what happens or what people say I love you and you know the truth.” He says cutting me off and pulls away kissing the top of my head.
“I love you dad.” Is all I can say and I feel more tears running down my cheek.
He looks behind me and gives a nod and then walks around the car and gets into the driver’s side and gets in. He starts the car and takes off giving me a quick wave as he does so.
I look behind me and notice Dilan standing near the door waiting, I’m guessing for me. But I wait until I can’t see my dad’s cars tail lights anymore and then turn back and head back to the doors with my head down, so he can’t see the tears.
“Ready for me to take you to your room so you can get settled?” He asks once I get to the door.
“Sure, let’s go.” I grumble, keeping my head down and follow him.
Dilan starts walking down a different corridor. He tries to talk to me about different things, but I don’t seem to hear him, I’m still thinking about what my father had said at the car. What could be going on and why didn’t he tell me that he might get killed? I knew that being a Tracker was dangerous but he had others there and he was strong, so why would he think he would be killed.
We seem to stop outside a door and Dilan hands me a map and says. “I noticed along the way you weren’t really talkative. It will get better. This is your room. I hope you don’t mind sleeping alone, the other rooms have two to three other girls in them, but yours is a single room.”
“No, I like being alone. It helps me think. Thank you again for walking me to my room.” I say, wondering if he went through my things, I hope he didn’t.
“You should look over your training schedule which is on the dresser in your room, and you might want to check the clothes you will be wearing to make sure they fit. If you have any trouble, just sing out, there will always be someone willing to help.” He says, and then he walks away.
I open the door and walk inside, and try to figure everything out. I look around and see that the room is fairly big and familiar. It has a queen size bed, a pretty big dressing table, huge table that has a computer at one end and on the other end there are all these books, and a piece of paper. I notice that my bags aren’t anywhere visible. I notice that there are a couple of doors I’m hoping one of them is a bathroom, but the other I guess might be the wardrobe and hopefully my bags were in there, unopened and untouched, but it is very unlikely.
I go over to the table and have a look at the piece of paper. It reads:
To Miss Minx,
Here are the classes that you will be attending. Here are the times for the meals, and other activities, which you may enjoy, curfew is at 8.00pm, you must be in your room at that time, and lights out is at 9.15pm. Alarms will sound half an hour before breakfast and fifteen minutes before first class, after lunch and on Saturday and Sunday’s before your PT classes.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask one of the instructors or your Personal Trainer.
Enjoy your time here
Ms Darness
After looking at the time-table (for my classes), I have another look around the room looking for a clock, to find out what the time is. As I look around I hear my name being called, and it sounds like the voice from my dreams.
I try and say something back, but then I feel the link disconnect. I now know that he’s real and here at the academy and remember what my father said and hope that I find him soon.
I look around my room trying to place the voice that I was hearing. I start to hear it again, my name being called. But could it be that guy from my dream. Then I feel it, I feel him, and he appears right next to my bed in what seems like a blink of an eye.
“Having fun?” He asks with a sly grin on his face walking over to me.
“No, I’m not. Are you?” I ask looking at him. I look around the room and realize that I am reliving the dream that I had last night (and wonder how far it would go) I walk up to him, and smile back at him. “You shouldn’t be here, I believe this is the girls dormitory.” I say a little flirtatious and wonder if he will leave or stay.
“I just came to see if you were ok, I’m Godric.” He says.
He takes my face in both of his hands and starts kissing me, gently at first, and then a little harder. I am shocked at first and then I don’t want him to stop, I don’t want him to let me go, but he does.
“I felt that you were upset and wanted to see if I was dreaming or if by some miracle you were real.” He smiles down at me and then pushes me away.
He disappears and it’s as if he wasn’t even here, I hope it wasn’t another dream, because that would have been the best and the worst dream ever.
I walk over to my dresser and decide to have a shower and then head to bed since I have to be up ready for anything in the morning (what sane person starts on a Tuesday?). I find my pyjamas (which are folded neatly like all of my other clothes in the third draw and unpacked). I head to the bathroom and find all my toiletries have also been unpacked (so I guess they go through your bags). I find the towels in a cupboard in the bathroom and have a shower.
The shower isn’t the same as the one at home, there are all these taps and buttons, I’m glad there are pictures (even though some don’t make sense), and I try a few out, and find one of them not only hardens the water pressure, but it also has body oils in it (which seems to calm me down a great deal).
