Chapter 17 Selaria/Godric

4000 Words
Marcus and I leave the castle and find Godric standing at the bottom of the stairs with the rest of the Rebellion and the guards that my mother had sent out with them.   When we get to the bottom of the stairs Marcus turns to Godric and says. “I will take care of her, I promise.”   Godric gets closer to him and glares at him. “You better.” Then he turns to me and his expression softens. “Stay safe my love.” And he pulls me to him and kisses me with a passion I wasn’t prepared for, but matched equally.   “We must go.” Marcus says in an urgent voice.   He places a hand on my arm to express the urgency to leave and get back to the Academy. We break apart and looking in Godric’s dark eyes, and know he doesn’t want me to leave.   “I’ll stay safe.” I say and then turn to Marcus. “Ok, let’s go.”   He nods and we both start walking towards the carriage that will be take us back to the veil.   We are nearly at the carriage when I reconnect with Godric and say through our link. “I love you.”   “I love you more.” I hear and feel through the link.   When we get to the carriage I look back and I see that a couple of the Rebellion are standing behind Godric staring at me, I glance at Godric and see that he hasn’t moved, and he’s just looking at me.   “Yes?” I ask him through the link.   “I miss you already.” He says through the link and I see a smile on his face. “Is everything ok?” I hear. Turning around I realise that it was from Marcus.   “Yes everything is fine.” I say and get into the carriage.   We ride in silence to the veil. I don’t know what to say to Marcus or what I want to say. I am still shocked that he can come and go and that he knows my mother.   “Ok are you ready to go back to the Academy?” I hadn’t even realised that the carriage stopped when Marcus spoke.   I look over to where I hear him speak and realise that he has already gotten out of the carriage.   “Yep I’m ready.” I tell him and get out of the carriage.   I’m glad that he doesn’t know what is going on in my head because he would know that I’m not ready, I’m not even close to ready to go back.   “Well then, let’s go.” He says and starts walking toward the veil. When he realises that I’m not following him, he stops and says. “I will keep you safe, I promise.”   “Yeah I know, and I’m coming.” I say and walk through the veil.   Marcus grabs my arm and we teleport back to the Academy. When we arrive I notice that we are in the courtyard.   “Why are we here?” I ask a little worried that someone might have seen us teleport here.   “Don’t worry, no-one saw us.” He says and walks over to a seat near some rose bushes. “We need to talk before you go to Elder Zarconian, I need to know what you are going to say to him so I know what I need to say to him.”   Confused I just stare at him open mouthed. “About having a funeral for your father.”  I hear Godric say through the link. “Oh right, ok so what should I say to Elder Zarconian?” I ask.   I hadn’t really thought about how I was going to bring it up and I am up for some ideas.   “Well he knows that you want to have a funeral for your father, maybe you can tell him that doing it now will help your grieving and that you need to put all your stuff in storage because you can’t afford to keep the house and it is starting to become too much for you to handle.” Marcus says when I get to the seat.   “Is that all? I mean will he even allow me to go and pack up all my stuff?” I ask him.   I am a little nervous going to see Elder Zarconian after what I just found out.   “Yes he will. He wants to keep you close, but to keep you on his side he needs to act like he cares about your needs.” He grabs my hands with both of his. “You need to play to his weaknesses, he wants you and if you keep missing classes he will never know how great you could become and he wants to know how great you are, so he can use you.”   I shake my head, but I know he’s right and I can feel that Godric is agreeing with him. Godric doesn’t like it, but he thinks it’s the best and possibly the only thing to do.   Looking down at my hands I ask. “When do I speak to him about it?” I don’t want to look at him and see the answer I know is coming.   “The best time would be now, because you could say that you came and spoke to me and I advised you to go and see him about it.” Marcus put his finger gently under my chin and raises my head and continues with a gentle smile. “Don’t forget tears, they might help to persuade him if it doesn’t look like he will budge.”   I get up and head to Elder Zarconian’s office, hoping and praying that he isn’t there with every footstep that I take.   I finally get there and see his receptionist sitting behind her desk, she looks up as I walk into the room.   “Yes can I help you?” She asks in a bright tone.   “I would like to speak to Elder Zarconian.” I say to her and add a small smile when she raises her eyebrows questioning me.   She pushes a button and she says. “Selaria is here and she has asked if she can speak with you.”   “Yes, yes tell her to come on in, she doesn’t need an appointment.” I hear come out of a speaker near her desk.   “Well you heard him, go on in.” She says and went back to doing what she was doing before I interrupted her.   Before I open the door Elder Zarconian is there opening it. “Selaria please come on in, how are you feeling today?” He asks smiling at me with a smile that I know isn’t real, but I’m not going to say anything about it, I just smile back.   “I’m ok.” I don’t want to give too much away. I have to find a way to bring up the conversation about burying my father.   “Of course I understand.” He says putting his hand on my back, I want to throw him across the room for touching me, but instead I let him guide me to the couch in his office by a window I didn’t notice the other times came here. “Is there anything I can do to help?”   That’s when I know I don’t have to figure out a way to bring it up. “I’m struggling a little and I was wondering how much longer it’s going to take until I can have a funeral of some sort for my father and pack up my things.” I say with a slight huff.   “I do believe that everyone arrived today to take you.” He says holding his hand out, I don’t get why he is doing it until I see two cups fly across the room and land on the table, one in front of him and the other in front of me.   It might not be as hard as I thought, but then I sense Godric and I feel a lot braver.   “Thanks, so will we be leaving today or sometime this week?” I ask looking at Elder Zarconian, he is about to say something but I quickly add. “We have a mortgage on the house and because I can’t make the repayments they are going to foreclose on it and I don’t want them taking my stuff.”   “If you want I can pay it for you.” He says looking serious.   That isn’t what I was going for, but I don’t know how I am going to bring it up. “Tell him thank you, but you were just hoping to pack up everything in the house and put it in storage and start somewhere fresh, and you don’t think you could live there knowing your dad isn’t there anymore.” Godric offered. I’m glad that he is here.   “That’s really nice of you, but I was hoping to pack up everything in the house and put it in storage and when I’m finished with school, maybe I could move somewhere else.” I glance down at my hands hoping for dramatic effect. “I don’t think I could live there without my dad.” I finish and glance up at him.   “Of course, the Trackers and Protectors that will accompany you to your home will help you pack up your house.” He gets up and goes over to his desk and presses a button that is next to his keyboard.   “I was hoping that Marcus could come with me.” The moment I say it Elder Zarconian releases the button and gives me a confused look. “I spoke to him early, while we were training and he said that I should speak to you about it, he has been a great help and very patient.” I finish, hoping that he won’t think too much into it.   “Of course, I understand.” He says and then presses the button again. “Can you please get Demascus Jardis, Michael Vona, Zebadiah Seitoth, Susan Zandarius, Alec Beardost, Mawabii Ninker, Twisha Alsaninan and Tara Gardiaren to come to my office when they wake up, and Marcus, Selaria’s trainer now.” He turns to me and continues with a smile. “See easy, nothing to worry about.”   He returns to the couch. “Thanks, now all I have to worry about is selling the house and the cost of the storage.” I say grabbing the cup of tea from the coffee table and add. “Thank you so much for all you have done, it’s more than I could have asked for.” And I take a sip.   “Oh it’s no problem at all, it’s what I’m here for, and it’s what the Elders are here for.” He says smiling at me. “And you don’t need to worry about your house or the storage, I will have that all organised by the time you get there.” So Marcus was right, Elder Zarconian wants me and he will do whatever it takes to get me to focus on getting stronger. I look at him and smile and hope it shows how grateful I am.   “Thank you so much you don’t know how much that means to me.” I close my eyes and let out a sigh, hoping he takes it as sigh of relief.   “It’s no problem at all.” He says with a smile and drinks his tea.   With my tea still in my hands I realise I have no idea when we will be leaving he said that the people who will be taking me are here, so I’m hoping it will be soon.   A knock at the door brings me out of my thoughts. I spin my head to look at the door and wonder I who it could be.   “Enter!” Elder Zarconian says in a loud clear voice and when I turn and look at him he smiles at me.   For the second time today I’m shocked to see who enters through the doors. “You called for me sir.” Marcus says looking at us and then says to me. “Everything ok Selaria?”   I nod at him when Elder Zarconian says. “Yes I would like you to accompany Miss Minx back to her house with a couple of Trackers and Protectors to pack up her belongings.”   “Of course.” He says looking at me and then at Elder Zarconian he asks. “When do we leave?”   “When all of the Trackers and Protectors arrive, a couple of them are situated elsewhere and are a few minutes away.” Elder Zarconian says standing and walking toward his desk.   “So in a couple of days?” I ask. Looking over at Elder Zarconian, who is at his computer.   “No I would say tomorrow night at the latest.” He says looking over at me smiling. “It shouldn’t take any longer and I don’t want you in anymore distress about this then needed.”   I take a quick glance at Marcus and see that he is smiling and I look at Elder Zarconian.   “Thank you again I’ll go and get a couple of things and make sure I’m ready to go.” I smile at him.   “Of course, I will have Varsity come and get you when they arrive and are ready to leave.” Elder Zarconian says and goes back to his computer.   I finish my tea. “Where would you like me to leave my cup?” I ask standing up and looking around trying to figure out where he had gotten it from.   “Oh don’t worry about it, just leave it on the table, you go and get ready to go.” Elder Zarconian says turning to me.   I put the cup down and head to the door, before I walk out I turn back and look at them.   “Thank you again for everything.” I smile at them both.   As I turn back and grab the door hand Elder Zarconian says. “It’s our pleasure.” And with that I walk out the door.   When I exit Elder Zarconian’s office I feel the tension leave my body like I had been holding my breath the whole time. It feels good to leave, but now I have to get back to my room and get things ready to go back home and get things ready. ~ After Selaria left Sparkonia the Queen with ten of her guards escorted us to a location that seems to have been deserted. It is nice and quiet and it has a few houses. It looks a lot like farm land and I wonder why there is no-one here.   I have to talk to my Uncle about storage for Selaria and how we can get it here seeing as how we are not able to come and go as we please.   I am checking out the house that my Uncle, Derek and I are given, it is pretty cool, old fashioned but really strong. I can’t believe it, Derek is upset that there is no TV or radio, but he’ll live. We will be training mostly, so we can get rid of the Elders and get out of this place.   I notice that Selaria is finally back in her room, she is grabbing a couple of bags from her closet to start packing to go to her house.   “You should check this place out, it’s not too bad.” I tell Selaria through the link.   “Yeah I bet. I can’t wait to get this all over and done with.” She says, I can feel her frustration and notice that she is tired.   “It will be soon, I promise and then we will be together and we won’t have to worry about the Elders.” I’m glad that I can hear Selaria, I thought I wouldn’t be able to because of what happened when she was here without me, but Irinduma told us that because of her, Selaria and I will be able to communicate without any problems.   “What are we going to do about my stuff, I can’t let the Elders get their hands on it.” She is worried about her stuff, she knows there isn’t anything that they will want but she doesn’t want them touching anything. This is going to be hard for her, I can feel that it is already taking its toll on her.   “Don’t worry about it, I’ll talk to Uncle Charlie in a few minutes.” I place a couple of the books on a shelf and then continue after I sit down on a seat that doesn’t look comfortable, but it isn’t too bad. “It’s comfortable. Look I’d go and see Uncle Charlie now but he is talking to your mother and I don’t want to give her any reason to kick us out, we need her protection.” I say a little worried about what she is talking to him about.   “Ok, ok.” She sits down on her bed exhausted. “I don’t know how long I have, but I don’t want to waste any time getting a few things and taking them with me, like the copy I made of The Book of Prophesies, I was going to hide the original, but now that my mother has it, I guess I don’t need to worry about it, I just need to read the copy and find out why Queen Alina wanted me to get it.  Hey has my mother said anything about The Book of Prophesies?” She asks and I can hear the hope in her voice that maybe the Queen might have said something to Uncle Charlie.   “Nope, I have heard nothing.” I say feeling just as tired and wonder when I will get to see her again.   Derek walks in at that moment. “Charlie is free but the Queen would like to talk to you first though.”   “What on earth does she want?” Selaria asks getting extremely angry at the thought of the Queen questioning me.   “Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell her about what we have.” Derek raises his eyebrows and then walks out of the room shaking his head. “I love you.” I continue and walk outside.   I walk over to the Queen who is standing as if she ruled the world, well I guess she does sort of, she rules this world.   “You wanted to speak to me your majesty?” I ask bowing.   “Yes, I do.” She says smiling, she looks a lot like Elder Zarconian when she smiles. “You seem to know my daughter very well and like her a great deal.”   “Yes I do know your daughter very well and I love her.” I answer, Selaria seems happy about my answer, but it is true, I do love her.   “Ahhh, young love.” She laughs and smiles shaking her head. But in a split second her whole demeanour changes. “I don’t want you seeing my daughter anymore and I want you to tell her that you don’t think it best to be together anymore.”   “What???” Selaria and I voice at the same time.   “Godric you seem to be a strong and powerful young man, but I need Selaria to be focused.” She stands up straighter, if that is even possible. “She will be Queen one day and you aren’t King material, if my older brother hadn’t been killed then I wouldn’t be on the throne right now. I hope that you understand.” And then she turns to leave.   “Please don’t, I’m begging you don’t break up with me, I need you.” Selaria says through the bond.   “Godric, don’t break up with Selaria, the Queen will regret it if you do.” Irinduma says firmly.   “I wasn’t about to, I love you too much to be able to break up with you.” I say, and I can feel that Selaria is furious, but it isn’t at me but at her mother for what she just asked me to do.   “What happens if I don’t break up with your daughter?” I ask wondering what her answer could be.   “Well you are here as my guests and if you want to stay here as my guests then I’d advise you not to do anything that would change your circumstances.” She says turning toward me looking serious. “I’m glad you understand, enjoy your stay.” And walks away   “Oh she is going to regret what she just said.” Selaria says and I can feel her anger.   “Don’t worry, we will work something out.” I say watching the Queen’s carriage leave.   “Godric.” I hear my Uncle call my name and I turn and see him walking towards me from talking to Hank.   “Yeah?” I ask walking up to him.   “You wanted to talk to me.” He says and then we walk toward the house we are staying in. “Oh and what did the Queen want to talk to you about?” He asks when we get to the door.   “Selaria will be going back to her house with a few Protectors, Trackers and her Personal Instructor Marcus to put her stuff in storage, is there a storage company that she can use so we can grab it and bring it here?” I ask when we get inside the house.   My uncle sits in one of the large chairs with fur over it near the fire place and seems to think about what I just asked. I like the room, it is spacious and has a nice sized fire place, but my favourite are the chairs in front of the fire place.   “No, everyone is here." My Uncle says with a sigh. “Well except for the ones undercover, but we aren't able to get to them.” He continues, shaking his head.   I know it is hard for him, having to leave the family home and come to a place that looks like it's a different era. I’m not sure how we are going to get Selaria's stuff or where we are going to put it.   "Maybe we can get the Queen to help." My Uncle suggests turning to me. “She can get people in and out of here and she has that guy working at the Academy that Elder Zarconian doesn’t even realise wasn’t born there, so he could bring all of her stuff here.”   It sounds like a good idea, but I’m not sure how Selaria is going to think about it. She doesn’t really like talking to her mother, or even being around her. There has to be another way to do this, another way to get her stuff here without involving the Queen.   “I’ll talk to Marcus when we get there.” I hear Selaria say through the link. I can feel that she agrees with me about not wanting to get her mother involved, since her mother doesn’t even want us to be together.   “Selaria is going to talk to Marcus about it.” I tell my uncle and sit down on one of the chairs. They are pretty comfortable.   “Does the Queen know about the link you two have?” My Uncle asks looking over at me with a questioning look.   “Selaria doesn’t want her to know right now.” I tell him staring into the fire.   “Is that a good idea, keeping it from the Queen?” He asks shifting the chair so it is facing me.   “I don’t know, we just have too much stuff to deal with and Selaria doesn’t want her mother to know.” I tell him shifting my chair as well so we are facing each other.   He looks down at his hands shaking his head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea and I know that the Queen doesn’t like the fact that Selaria and you are together.” He says with a sad look on his face.   “Did you say anything to her about us?” I ask panicked.   I know that Selaria doesn’t want anyone to say anything and I always thought it was her job to do so, but if Uncle Charlie has said something already, Selaria and I may have to talk to the Queen.   “No, but I do think one of you should.” He says and moves his chair back to where it was and stares into the fire.   I know that the conversation is over and that I should either do what he is doing and just stare into the fire thinking about whatever or I should leave. I chose the latter and moved my chair back and go to my room.   “He can’t be serious?” I hear Selaria ask sounding shocked.   “I think he is and I think he has a point, I doubt she’d want us to break up if we told her.” I say lying down on my bed.   I can feel her getting angry, but what I don’t expect is for Irinduma to agree with me. “I agree with Godric and his uncle, but I think you can do it without really telling the Queen.”   I am confused, how did Irinduma want us to tell the Queen without actually telling the Queen.   “How would we do that?” I ask.   “Easy, by having a conversation in front of her, but only one of you actually being there.” Irinduma says getting excited.
