I can’t believe that Irinduma wants my mother to know about the link that Godric and I have, what is even more surprising is that Godric agrees with her. I don’t understand why they want to tell her, she left me and my dad years ago and when my father needed her she let him die.
Laying on my bed thinking about what they both said I hear a knock on my door.
“Selaria you are wanted in Elder Zarconian’s office.” I hear on the other side of the door. I don’t know who’s voice it is, I haven’t heard it before.
“I’ll be right there.” I say jumping off my bed and grabbing what I am taking with me.
I open the door and see a woman standing there with her hands on her hips. She is wearing a pair of black skin tight pants, a black shirt that looks like it is a few sizes too small for her and she looks like she is shooting daggers out of her dark blue eyes.
“Are you ready to go?” She asks sounding annoyed.
“Yeah I’m ready.” I say trying to smile and wondering who she is as I grab my backpack and put it on my back and carry my other two bags.
“Then let’s go.” She says sounding frustrated and turns on the heel of her stiletto knee high black boots and walks away.
I don’t know who she is, but I am hoping that she isn’t coming with us, she seems a little scary and she acts like she is mad at me for some reason and I just don’t know what it is. I follow her, not wanting to drawing attention to myself and have her look at me with that angry look on her face again.
As we enter Elder Zarconian's office I notice that Elder Zarconian isn't alone, there are other people in the office. I guess they are the ones coming with me to help pack my things and put them in storage. I look around the room again and notice that Marcus isn't here and I start to wonder why he isn't and then I hear Zarconian call my name. I notice that they are all wearing the same black clothes that the woman that brought me here is wearing and start to wonder if it is a uniform.
I turn and find Elder Zarconian sitting at his desk typing on his computer and some of them seem to be sitting and a few are standing waiting for something.
"Selaria your here." He says sounding happy when I turn to him. “Are you ready to go?” He asks and everyone turns and looks at me.
“Yeah I think so.” I say putting my bags on the floor looking around the office hoping I hadn't missed Marcus, but I still can't find him and the office isn't that big.
As if knowing something is wrong Elder Zarconian asks. “Are you ok?” Looking at the other people in the room curiously.
“I was looking for Marcus.” I say wondering if I'd have to ask if he is still able to come.
“He should be here soon.” He says smiling at me, but I can see the worry on his face.
“Marcus?” The woman who came and collected me asks sounding confused and surprised.
“Yes, he is Selaria's personal trainer.” He says sounding impatient.
He walks over to me and places a hand on my shoulder, I’m not too happy about the physical contact that I am getting from him, but it doesn’t last because at that moment Marcus walks through the door. He is wearing blue jeans and a black leather jacket with what looks like a white shirt under the jacket and black boots, it looks like he has just came out of an eighties movie. I may have to say something to him later about it.
“Sorry I’m late, but Trevor isn’t happy that he has to take over my classes.” He says walking over to me.
“I will have a word to him later, but now I would like to introduce everyone to Selaria.” Elder Zarconian says and smiles at me again. It never gets less scary though.
“It’s ok, I explained why he had to do it.” Marcus says giving Elder Zarconian a smile and then looks at me. “How are you doing, this must be really hard for you right now.” He says putting his hand on my opposite shoulder.
I nod, hoping he understands that I want to meet everyone and get out of here and get my stuff packed as fast as I can. I am glad that Marcus is here because they all look so intimidating, unlike before when their attention wasn’t on me.
“Well let me introduce you to everyone.” Elder Zarconian says sounding annoyed.
We walk up to the two guys and one girl that had been talking when I arrived, they smile at me and I try to do the same. I am taken back by the eyes of the girl, I have never seen green eyes like hers before, her eyes are like emeralds, which goes well with her long red curly hair that she let hang loose, she is a little shorter than Marcus
“This is Demascus.” Elder Zarconian says bringing my attention to the tall man with blue eyes and blonde hair, he looks like he loves being out in the sun and works out a lot, because he is really tanned and you can see his muscles under his shirt.
“Nice to meet you.” He says smiling at me, seeming pleased to me. “I am sorry to hear about your father.” He continues sounding sad and sorry.
Elder Zarconian wait for us to finish talking before he introduces me to the next guy. “This is Michael.”
His hair is the same colour as the girls, but it is short and I wonder if they are related, but the eyes are very different, he is shorter than Demascus but taller than the girl.
“Hi, how are you doing?” He asks sounding a little concerned.
“Yeah I’m fine.” I say trying to sound ok and a little sad.
Again Elder Zarconian waits before interrupting. “This is Tara.” He says smiling at her.
For a moment I thought she shivered, but it is too fast for me to see. The clothes look a lot better on her then they do on the woman that is still glaring at me. I notice that there are only three females coming on this trip, I thought there might have been more because of me.
“Hello.” She says smiling, her voice is amazing, I haven’t heard that accent before and before I can ask she continues. “If there is anything I can do don’t hesitate to ask me.”
“Hi, you have an awesome accent.” I say smiling back, I know then that we will get a long really well.
“Thank you.” She says smiling at me.
We walk over to a guy that decided not to stand when Elder Zarconian got up. He is really dark skinned and bald, I’m not sure what nationality he is but he doesn’t seem happy to be here and beside him stood the woman that brought me here.
“This is Mawabii and Twisha.” Elder Zarconian says when we reach them.
He finally stands up and holds out his hand to me. “Hello.” He says in an accent that I can’t place, but I have heard it before. When I take his hand and shake it, I notice that he has a really strong grip.
“Hello.” I say looking into his eyes, they seem really hard and angry, but not as angry as Twisha’s and with that we walk over to the other three who are sitting on the couch, I’m guessing waiting for us to walk over.
“And these three are Zebadiah, Susan and Alec.” Elder Zarconian says pointing to the really tanned guy with brown eyes and a buzz cut brown hair, a woman with blue eyes and blond hair and a stocky tanned guy with shoulder length brown hair.
I am hoping that we are going to leave since I have met everyone, but it looks like no-one is getting ready to leave, instead it is the opposite, they all sit down, except for Marcus, Elder Zarconian and myself.
Before I can question what is going on, Elder Zarconian guides me to the other couch and gestures for me to sit. When I have he begins to speak.
“Now that Selaria has met you all, I need to make sure you all understand what I am wanting from all of you.” He says staring at each of them making sure they understand.
“I’m sure we all understand what is at stake.” Mawabii says standing and turning the chair so he can see us all. I finally figure out his accent, it is African.
“I hope you do, I don’t want anything to happen to Selaria while she is away from the Academy.” Elder Zarconian says glaring at Mawabii.
“Like anything would.” I hear Godric say through the link.
“We will keep a very close eye on her and get her back as soon as possible.” Tara says smiling at me.
I’m starting to wonder if she ever stops smiling, but it is starting to become contagious. I look over at Elder Zarconian and notice that he hasn’t stopped staring at Mawabii, as if they are having their own secret conversation.
“I’m glad.” Elder Zarconian says turning toward us and smiles at Tara. “Now does everyone know the plan?” He asks.
Everyone nods but it is Tara who speaks up. “Yes and Twisha and I have changed jobs, I’ll be staying with Selaria and Twisha will be on guard.”
He nods and then looks up at Twisha questioningly. “Is that true?” He asks not taking his eyes off her.
“Yes, I feel that I would be more useful guarding the perimeter then babysitting.” She says, and I’m guessing by the look on Elder Zarconian’s face it is the wrong thing to say.
“You aren’t babysitting you are protecting a student of this Academy and a young lady who has just lost her father.” He half yells at her.
“It’s fine, I don’t mind that they changed jobs.” I say hoping to leave soon and without any more arguments.
He turns to me and smiles. “Are you sure you’re ok with that?” He asks.
“Yeah as long as you don’t mind.” I say smiling at him, feeling good about the fact that Twisha isn’t going to be my ‘babysitter’.
“Fine Tara you will be the one I expect to be watching Selaria constantly and Twisha you can be on guard duty.” Elder Zarconian says looking between Tara and Twisha, they both nod their understanding.
“Are we leaving now?” Mawabii asks standing up.
Elder Zarconian glares at him and then turns to me and smiles. “Is there anything you need before you go?” He asks me.
“No I have everything that I need.” I say standing up.
I notice that Elder Zarconian isn’t happy that I stand up but he doesn’t stop me from standing, instead he says. “Well I guess that you all should go but make sure you keep in touch.”
“We will.” Tara says and puts her hand on my shoulder and guides me to my bags. “I’ll make sure she stays safe.” She continues, and picks up my bags.
I thought we were going to drive there, but Elder Zarconian creates what a multi-coloured portal in the middle of the room. I’m not sure if it is because I am standing there with my mouth open shocked by what he has just done, but Elder Zarconian does a little laugh.
“It’s perfectly safe, and don’t worry Mawabii and Demascus will be going through first to make sure that it’s safe.” Elder Zarconian says sounding pleased with himself.
Mawabii and Demascus walk through and everyone else just stands staring at the portal. I’m not sure what they are waiting for, and then as if knowing what I am thinking a bright green flare comes through the portal.
“All right, now that the place is safe, you may all go through.” Elder Zarconian says making the portal bigger.
Twisha, Zebadiah and Alec move so they are in front of Tara, myself and Marcus, then Michael brings up the rear. I’m not sure why we are standing like that until Twisha, Zebadiah and Alec start to move toward the portal and Marcus nods for me to follow.
After we are through I notice that Mawabii isn’t anywhere to be found and Demascus is standing waiting for us. After a quick look I notice that we are in my living room.
Before I can say anything Twisha asks. “Where is Mawabii?” By her tone I can tell that she is not pleased to only see Demascus.
“He’s outside checking the perimeter again.” Demascus answers sounding bored.
With a huff Twisha starts walking toward the door that leads to the kitchen.
“Wrong way, the front door is that way.” I say pointing to the doorway that will lead to the front door.
She turns toward me and I can tell by the look on her face, that she is not happy that I corrected her on where she has to go, but this is my house and I am the only one that really knows where to go.
She storms out of the room and heads outside. I notice Demascus, Michael, Tara and Marcus shaking their heads, but then Susan, Alec and Zebadiah follow Twisha.
“Well we should get started.” Marcus says looking around the room.
Nothing had changed in the house, I don’t know what I had expected when I got home, but it isn’t this. I don’t want to pack anything up, but I know that I have to. I walk through the door way that leads to the kitchen and remember the last time I was here, it is also the last time my father was as well. Nothing has changed, everything is still in its place.
I hear the front door open and the others walk back inside. After a while I hear them talking, but I’m not listening to what they are saying, if it is important they will let me know. I sit down on the chair that I sat in when my father had served me breakfast and remember that morning, like it was only yesterday.
“That should keep them busy for a little while.” I hear Michael say, and find him standing in the door way.
I’m not sure if it is to me or not. I start getting up to start packing since I’m not even sure he is talking to me, but he grabs my shoulders and pushes me gently back onto the chair.
“Your dad was a good friend of mine and Demascus.” He says taking the seat opposite me at the table.
I look up at him a little confused at what he is saying. “What?” I ask.
“Your father and Demascus used to work together, when he met your mother, Demascus and your father were on a job.” He tells me, he takes a deep breath and continues. “When your father and mother got married, he left the Magic Users but never went against them.”
“I have two questions.” I say to him before he can keep going. “Who came up with the stupid name ‘the Magic Users and why are you telling me this?” I ask him.
He smiles and laughs at my question. “I don’t know who came up with the name, and I am telling you this because there are things about your father that you need to know, before everyone comes back in.”
Now I’m very intrigued and confused. “Like what?” I ask.
I think about getting up and start with the packing again, but I don’t know where I am going to start.
“Your father told us everything about you and what you could do.” He says and then pauses I’m guessing to see if I will interrupt and when I don’t he continues. “Neither Demascus or myself told The Elders about you though.”
“Then how did they find out about me?” I ask interrupting this time.
“We aren’t sure how they found out, but we didn’t tell them, if we had then Marcus would know you’re stronger than you are letting on.” He says giving me a knowing look. “Your father told us that you are stronger than he was when he was your age and you can do more than any of us has ever been able to do, and he told us that two months before The Elders came to your father.”
“He never told me that I was stronger than he was, he didn’t say much about my powers.” I say to him, getting even more confused about what is going on. “All my dad used to say was that I was getting stronger and was always getting me to use my powers and teaching me to hide my powers.”
We both hear the front door open and he stands up, I go to stand up as well but he places his hand on my shoulder to keep me in my seat.
Demascus comes in and says quickly and only loud enough for us to hear. “Do your dad’s room first, preferably his wardrobe.” He keeps walking toward the kitchen window that looks out at the backyard as he says it.
Marcus must have heard something because he asks. “What did you say Demascus?”
“Where are the others?” I ask acting like I didn’t hear his question.
“Zebadiah, Susan and Alec have gone to get some food, Mawabii and Twisha are doing a perimeter check and Tara is standing guard at the front door.” Marcus says looking straight at me.
I notice out of the corner of my eye that both Michael and Demascus seem confused by the transaction between Marcus and myself.
I get up from the table and say. “Michael and Demascus are on our side.”
I walk over to the cupboards that holds the cups and grab a couple out, mainly because I want a drink, but I can’t be rude and not give them one either. I can feel Godric in the background seeing and hearing everything that is going on. He wants to be able to come to me quickly if he needs to.
“What?” I hear all of them ask.
I’m not up to explaining everything, but I need to secure my father’s room and fast, because I don’t want the others getting into the room and finding something they shouldn’t.
“Marcus make sure no-one enters my father’s room unless I give permission for them to enter, also have Tara come here please.” I say putting the kettle on and grabbing the tea container, I know that the tea will be fine and so would the sugar, I just can’t have milk until the others get back. Michael and Demascus still have confused looks on their faces, but I just don’t care right now.
As if to help explain things Marcus says. “Yes Princess.” And goes and does it.
“Princess?” I hear both Michael and Demascus ask, sounding shocked.
I turn around and see them both at the table now, and knowing Tara will be here at any moment I make sure I have enough cups out for tea.
“Yes my mother is Queen of a magical city called Sparkonia, that’s why she left, because her Bother passed away and had to take his place on the throne.” I say going back to my tea.
Before either of them can say anything or ask any questions Tara walks in. “Yes Princess?” She asks. Both Michael and Demascus look surprised by what she called me.
“Marcus told you I see.” I say, more than ask her. With her nod I continue. “Make sure no-one goes through anything unless I tell them that they can.”
“Of course.” She answers. “Mawabii and Twisha are coming, they’ll reach the front door in a few minutes.” She says looking toward the front door.
“You can go back now, thanks.” I tell her and finish making my cup of tea. I know I should start packing but I don’t know where to start.
“Maybe your father’s room.” I hear Godric say in my head.
I know he’d been listening so it isn’t a surprise. But I don’t know if I really want to start there.
I hear Mawabii and Twisha walk through the door and come toward the kitchen. I’m not sure what the next move is, but I know I will have to figure out how long I am going to be allowed to stay here. Elder Zarconian didn’t really give me a deadline but I’m not sure how long he expects me to stay here.
“Mawabii did Elder Zarconian give us a time frame on how long I can take to pack everything up?” I ask hoping he hadn’t and he will have to call and ask.
“No he didn’t, but I don’t think we will be here that long.” He tells me and then glances around the room with a questioning look. “Why how long do you think it will take?” He asks turning his attention back to me.
“I’m not sure how long it’s going to take, since I’m the only one doing it and I’m going to need boxes and other packing stuff.” I say looking around the room and huff realising it’s probably going to take me a few weeks.
“Of course you’re not doing it alone, that is why we are here, we are going to help you and I’ll let the others know to get some boxes.” He says walking over to the table and taking a seat.
Twisha just stands in the doorway glaring at me as if I have done something wrong, so I turn my back to her.
“I’ll go get some boxes.” I hear Twisha say and then hear the door slam shut.
Mawabii starts walking toward one of the cabinets when Alec walks in with my neighbour behind him, I am surprised to see her.
“Who is this?” Mawabii asks moving so he is in front of me.
“She said that she knows Selaria and that they are neighbours.” Alec says sounding worried that he might have done something wrong and looks like he is about to grab her and take her back outside.
I get up and push Mawabii out of the way, and before he can grab me I run to her and give her a hug. She has always been there for me since my mother left, and when my father went looking for her I would always stay at her house.
“This is Mrs Ridgedo.” I say introducing her to the others and notice that they don’t seem happy to see her.
“She can’t stay here.” Mawabii says walking toward us.
“I just wanted to give my condolences.” Mrs Ridgedo says giving me a sad look.
“Thank you.” I say giving her a small smile and another hug.
“Read this when you are alone.” She whispers slipping something into my pocket. “Well I better get going.” She says out loud and gives me a small nod.
“Thank you again Mrs Ridgedo.” I say and nod my understanding and place my hand in my pocket and feel a small piece of paper. “Well we better get packing.” I say and turn and leave the room.
Heading upstairs to my father’s room I notice that Marcus has put up a shield and a magic voidance veil to keep anyone out that I don’t want in there. I may have to ask him to do it to everything in my house, but if I do that, they might figure out that there might be something in here that I don’t want them to see.
I walk over to my father’s wardrobe and open it to find only his clothes. I’m not sure what Demascus was talking about, there isn’t anything here that I don’t know about. I start pulling his clothes out and putting them on his bed so I can sort them and put them in a box when they arrive.
After a few minutes of pulling his clothes out I notice that there is a slight difference in the wall at the back of the closet. I push it and it clicks open, it is a small door. The inside is equally small with only a small wooden box, I am about to open it when a knock at the door stops me.
“Yes?” I ask wondering who it might be and quickly push the wall back together and hide the box under some clothes.
Marcus walks in. “Just wondering if you needed some help?” He asks closing the door. Then walks over to me and whispers. “Did you find what Demascus and Michael were talking about?”
“Yeah I did, but I haven’t opened it yet.” I whisper.
“Try and hide it in one of your bags and I’ll get Tara to help keep an eye on it and make sure no-one else finds it.” Marcus says continuing to whisper.
I am about to say something when Mawabii enters the room. I am glad that I haven’t removed it from where I hid it.
“I have a couple of boxes for you, is there a room you would like us to start with?” He asks placing the boxes against the wall beside the door and then gives Marcus a strange look.
“I don’t know yet, I just thought I’d start with my dad’s room and then go from there.” I say and go back to the wardrobe and start pulling the rest of the clothes out.
“What are you doing Marcus?” Mawabii asks sounding curious.
“I’m helping Selaria pack up her father’s clothes and I told her that maybe she should put the fragile things between his clothes.” Marcus says and starts folding the clothes.
Mawabii walks out of the room and I turn to Marcus and breathe a sigh of relief that Marcus hasn’t started folding the clothes on the other side of the bed, because that is where I hid the box.
