Chapter 4 Godric

2717 Words
Leaving her was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I’m the strongest in my family. My uncle has been training me ever since I received my powers when I was five years old. I know the rules, but I had to make sure she was ok.   They guys didn’t seem to mind, which made it easier and Derek covered for me. But what I found surprising was that we were able to talk to each other while we are awake and she was able to show me a picture that she had drawn, but I had seen the same thing in her mind but at a different angle. I told Derek, which seemed to have shocked him, but I’m glad that I have this connection with her.   Dinner was the usual, just us eating and talking about school stuff. John mentioned that he needed to talk to me in my room after dinner, so I told him to go to my room and wait for me, because I was taking my time with dinner, as well as trying to see if I could talk to Selaria again. But for some reason I wasn’t able to do it, and I wasn’t sure why.   I get to my room and see John sitting at my desk, he had come in to speak to me about something he had read and heard, he was always great at getting information and making sure that the information that he got is correct before he comes to see me.   He is the only one in the group that is dark skinned, but that is because both his parents are from the Dinka Tribe from the Southeast Africa, no-one really knows how his family ended up there, but no-one is asking questions anymore.   I know that his family is looking for how the family had happened in Africa and when they immigrated there. But I like how he always comes to me when the others don’t, he is born to lead, and I can see him leading his own group in the Rebellion.   He is sitting wearing a shirt that says ‘Come to the Dark Side, We have cookies.’ He is always wearing some smart ass shirt when we don’t have to wear our uniform. He is also wearing board shorts with Hawaiian flowers on it. He can never get the fashion correct we tried to help him a few times, but he always tells us that it never made sense, so we let him dress however he likes and if anyone tried to say anything we stand behind him and look like a force you don’t want to mess with. It always works, most don’t want to be near me, Derek says it’s because I’m ugly, but John says that it’s because I’m scary and have a look of death when I get mad.    “Oh hey John, what’s up?” Derek asks following me into our room.   “I think there is another group that are fighting the Elders.” John says looking between Derek and myself.   I had heard rumours, we had all heard rumours that there could be another group, but no-one found any proof to support that information.   “Are you sure?” I ask, hoping it might be true. The Rebellion was losing people and we don’t know how they are being found.   “Yeah I have the latest copy of the Darphargon and it states that there was another person from the Rebellion caught, they even have his picture.” He says bring out the magazine and flips it open to a page he had folded down to show us. “He isn’t one of us, but I heard that he was part of a group that is also against the Elders.”   I look at the picture and see a man that had strong features, but he didn’t look anything like the ones that have been to any Rebellion meetings. He looked like he had a job and had a lot of money, unlike the Rebellion who look like they have low paying jobs. No-one in the Rebellion would allow themselves to get caught, they always kill themselves first while taking out as many of the enemy as possible to protect the rest of us.   “Should we bring it up with your uncle?” I was still thinking about the possibility of another group when I hear Derek speak.   “I will when I talk to him next, but at the moment he’s asked for radio silence.” I tell them.   My uncle wanted radio silence, he is worried that if we keep calling him, he’d get caught or worse we would, and we are meant to keep an eye on what was going on here, and now with Selaria being here, I want to be even more careful.   “So what do we do?” John asks.   “I’ll send a message, but I’m not sure how long it will take and then we wait until he contacts me.” I say and when I see the look on their faces I continue. “It could takes weeks before he replies though, so we need to get more information and more proof.”   At that John jumped up and I thought he was going to argue, but he says excitedly. “Ok I can do that, Cameron and the others can help as well and we’ll keep it low key.” “Good idea, and when my uncle contacts me we’ll be able to give him more information.” I say and with that he walks out the door.   “What are we going to do about Selaria?” Derek asks curiously.   I know what he means, but I was hoping that we won’t have to do anything. “I’m not sure, I haven’t thought that far ahead.” I say laying back down on my bed. “Any ideas?” I ask looking over at him.   Derek lies down on his bed and stares at the ceiling for a few minutes, which is one of his many signs that he is really thinking.   “She could be close to the Elders to the point where she could tell them who we are and our plans.” Derek says getting off his bed and walks over to the chair.   I hadn’t thought of that, I hadn’t even thought that she could be an ally to the Elders.   “Look since everyone knows we can get them to keep an eye on her, but to keep their distance and not to talk to her without talking to me first.” I say as Ian walks in.   He is wearing a blue button down shirt and grey pants, he is wearing joggers instead of formal shoes, and he has his bag that he takes to class with him, which sort of surprised me. I always found his fashion different from the others as well. He was always formal but also casual, just like his father.   But he has his mother’s complexion, olive skin with dark hair. His hair was long enough that he has blond about two inches of the tips of his hair. His mother is Latin American and his father is Indian the American sort so he always was destined to have good looks. I know a lot of the girls at the Academy have tried to get him to go out with them, but the Rebellion have rules to who we date or get close to.   “Great timing Ian.” Derek half laughs.   “Is there anything I can do?” Ian asks looking at me.   “I need you to get the girls to keep an eye on Selaria, and tell the guys to do the same.” I say sitting up.   “I’ll tell the girls now and I’ll go tell the guys when I leave here.” Ian says grabbing a book from his bag, that his father had given him so he could communicate with the girls while we are here.   “Make sure that doesn’t get into the wrong hands.” I say a little worried about having the book at the Academy.   “Oh they wouldn’t understand it anyway, it’s in Old Norse, Icelandic and Egyptian, so if they got it, it would confuse them.” Ian says, noticing both mine and Derek’s confused looks he continued. “Every third word I change the language and then every second page I change the dialect.”   “Ok, so if I got my hands on the book could I understand it now that you’ve told me that?” Derek asks.   “Nope, even if you know all three of the languages, you first have to learn the symbols as well, because it’s not just words that I’m using but symbols from Old Norse and Egyptian.” Ian clarifies and sounding proud of himself.   “Do the girls understand what you are writing?” I ask, wondering who else at the Academy knows the dialect.   “Yes, I have taught a couple of them and we’ve been doing it for a while, so they know and understand what I’m writing.” Ian says still sounding proud.   “Ok well can you tell the girls to keep an eye out and get one of them to get close to her.” I says and watch him write it in the book, Derek is watching over his shoulder with a confused and awe look on his face.   “Is that it?” Ian asks, smiling at Derek and then looks over at me.   “Yeah that’s all, thanks.” I say and then remember that he walked in without either of us calling him in. “Was there something that you wanted?”   “It can wait, it wasn’t that important.” He says smiling at both of us and he leaves the room.   Derek goes back to his bed and sits down still with a look of awe on his face. “You should have seen him write, it’s amazing and I couldn’t even understand any of it.” He says shaking his head.   I know that Ian is smart and know that his parents made sure that he knew at least six different languages and at least four of those languages were the old ones. But I didn’t realise that he knew them just as well as he knew English.   “Are you going to get in contact with your uncle, seeing as everyone here knows?” Derek asks.   I hadn’t thought about it, but I knew that I am going to have to tell him. I walk over to my desk and grab my communication crystal. There are only a few of us here at the Academy that has the crystals. There is myself, Elarna and a couple of the instructors who are on the Rebellion’s side.   The crystal is black with white tips and red veins. I don’t know where they came from, I asked once and my uncle said that they were passed down through the family. The crystal stays black until it connects to another crystal and then it turns fully white with red veins.   I walk back to my bed, I don’t know what I was going to say. Derek watches me from the moment I grabbed the crystal, probably thinking the same thing.   “So, what are you going to tell him?” I hear Derek ask when I sit back on my bed. I look over and see that he is fiddling with his necklace.   “Not sure, I guess I’ll figure it out when he answers.” I say and look down at the crystal.   “I’d probably tell him what John told us first and then tell him about Selaria.” Derek suggested.   I hold the crystal in both my hands and feel my energy go into the crystal as I focus on my uncle. To communicate with someone that has the same crystal you only have to think about them and it will activate their crystal. I feel the familiar vibration that told me that it is connecting and all I have to do is wait for him to pick up his crystal.   The crystal glows black with red veins and for a moment I don’t think I’d see it change, but then I hear his voice come through the crystal.   “What is it?” The crystal is like a phone, but instead of holding it up to my ear like you would a phone, you just hold it in your hands and instead of charging it with a cord and electricity, you charge it with the moon and the sun.   “John believes that there is another group that is going against the Elders.” I say into the crystal.   “Really?”  He asks. I am about to respond when he continues and sounds curious. “Do you have any proof of this?”   I look over at Derek who shrugs, this is going to be more difficult than I thought. “Only what he saw it in the Darphargon, but I have him looking for more proof as we speak.”   “So you contacted me with basically no information, why?” He asks sounding mad.   I look back over at Derek and notice he is writing on a piece of paper, when he holds it up, it reads, ‘Tell him about Selaria now.’   I look back down at the crystal and say. “It wasn’t the only reason, but I thought I’d start off with that as I believe that it is more important.” I wait a few seconds for him to reply or ask me what but he keeps quiet so I continue. “The girl I told you about the other day the one in my dreams, well she is here and she is….”   “What!?” He yells through the crystal.   “The girl…” I try again.   “I got that, what I don’t get is why you didn’t start with that.” He says sounding frustrated, I can tell that he was pacing and the crystal is sitting on a table by the way his voice is sounding, loud and then soft. “Do we know what side she is on?” He asks after a few minutes when I don’t say anything.   “No, I only know that her father was killed last night after he dropped her off here.” I say as quickly as I can, because I know that teleporting is dangerous.   “You spoke to her?” He asks. I can tell that he has stopped at that point.   “Yeah I did.” I say a little confused.   “Does she know who killed him?” He asks pacing again.   “She was told that it was us.” I tell him wondering how I am going to break it to her that I am part of The Rebellion.   “Does she know that you are part of The Rebellion?” He asks sounding concerned.   “No, but I know I’ll have to tell her soon.” I say, wondering what his reaction is going to be.   “I agree, but not until you know which side she is on.” He says sounding a little better and it sounds like he is no longer pacing as well, which is also a good sign.   “I suggest that we hold a meeting, find out if anyone else knows if there are others out there trying to go after the Elders.” I say bring the conversation back to what we were discussing before. “I get that I don’t have a lot of information right now, and now that I’ve found out that Selaria is real, I need to find out as much as I can, to protect not just the ones here, but to also protect her and who knows she might be a part of it.” I continue as quickly as I can so he doesn’t interrupt me.   I look over and find that Derek is writing more in the book that he has to pass messages along to the others, I know that whatever decision I make here he has my back, but when it comes to my uncle it’s a little more complicating since he’s the Leader.   “Fine, but I’ll have to let you know when we can have the meeting, we can’t do it for a couple of days.” He answers and then the connection is lost signalling, which means that he has hung up.   “When do we tell everyone about the meeting?” Derek asks.   “It won’t be till morning at breakfast, but this is the first time that I don’t have a date or a time to give them.” I say.   It isn’t uncommon not to have a time, but we at least always had a date, which meant that there was something going on that my uncle doesn’t want to tell me. I put the crystal back and return back to my bed and turn off the light, indicating that I don’t want to talk anymore and just wanted to sleep. I’m not sure what or who I will be dreaming about, but I hope that it is Selaria.
