Chapter 11 Selaria

3513 Words
After sending Godric and Derek to the apartment building, which was easier than I thought. I decide to try and figure out how to get the information on who the traitor might be.   When I wake up I notice that Godric is still asleep and it isn't a surprise since both of them were putting their own security in place to make sure that no unwelcome people arrived.   While having a shower I came up with a plan, it isn't the best one, but it is something. All I need to do is get everything ready for my classes. I know I was given a few weeks off, but I don't know any other way of finding out who the traitor is and finding out where Elder Zarconian is keeping Ezera.   I finally have everything when I hear the bell ring for breakfast. On the way there I run into Hannah and her cousin.   "Hey you’re up early." Hannah says smiling, like Christmas has come early   "Why are you in such a good mood?" I ask, curious to know why she is in such a good mood.   "Just before lights out I found out that Godric disappeared and Elder Zarconian is really angry." Hannah whispers with a giggle.   "How?" I ask faking a shocked look at both of them. "I thought no-one could do that?"   "No, Elder Zarconian said no-one could leave." Hannah says in a slight sing song voice, seeming very happy about this.   "It's believed that they are part of a group called the Rebellion." Maya says, seeming just as happy about this.   "Isn't that a bad thing?" I ask.   I notice that Varsity is listening and I don't want her to think I am happy about what was just said if I want to find out who the traitor is and where Elder Zarconian is keeping Ezera.   "Yes it is a bad thing." Varsity says angrily, and shoves Hannah aside so she can stand in front of us. "And I can't wait until they are caught and brought to justice for going against the Elders." She continues, and storms off.   "She's just upset because Elder Zarconian found out that she blabbed about his plans to so many people that he doesn't know who else might be part of the Rebellion here." Maya says still grinning.   We walk to the cafeteria for breakfast and find the other two girls waiting for us. It seems like the whole cafeteria is talking about Godric and Derek's escape, some are saying that since the Elders can't find them, that maybe they are still in the Academy.   I look over at the group that Derek and Godric use to sit at, and find them to be talking about it as well. I guess they are trying to keep up appearances.   The other girls that I am sitting with are coming up with their own ideas of where they could be and if they truly are part of the Rebellion.   Aubree doesn't think so, they weren't rebellious enough and they are always in the Instructors good books. Which is where the argument starts, everyone at the table besides me came up with pretty good arguments if I might say, to why or why not Derek and Godric are or aren't part of the rebellion.   I am glad when the bell rang for Personal Training because the other students start looking over at our table because the girls are no longer talking but they have started raising their voices and nearly shouting about why they think they are right.   Personal Training was the same as usual, Marcus getting me to lift things, create a shield and then me acting like it is draining me and making me tired so we have to stop. Then instead of going to my room afterwards I go to class, the first two were ok, the Instructors were nice and they didn’t get me to do too much and were always asking if I was ok.   It wasn’t until after lunch did it get a little more difficult, but I had to up appearances. The other classes I wasn’t able to get close to Varsity to put my plan into action, because of her fan club. But in this class she doesn’t have as many fans here, which meant that I am able to sit in front of her. What made it even more fantastic is the fact that one of her fans is sitting next to her starts laughing at the fact that I don’t have any family and I am really weak and I shouldn’t be here.   If they knew how strong I really am, it would possibly scare them, but I can’t use my powers and I have to keep them a secret. But with them making fun of me means that Varsity is extra nasty, which is what I need so I can get the Instructor to tell me where Elder Zarconian is so I can go and see him.   A piece of paper hit the back of my head. I know that if I turn around I would see the smirk on Varsity’s face. She was really starting to get on my nerves and I knew that Ms Glardos knows what is going on, but she isn’t doing anything about it. Ms Glardos and I aren’t getting along, I have only known her for a day and already she doesn’t like me.   I can’t wait until I can get out of here, and I’m not really listening to her. I am trying to work out when I should ask to go and see Elder Zarconian and to see when I can go home and find out if dad had written a will. I also need ask about the man that killed my dad.   I am grateful that Godric and I have the mind link, because I am able slip into his mind and get away from what is going on here. Varsity isn’t letting up and I can hear a couple of other students laughing when she hits me with the balls of paper.   I notice that Godric is reading a book, nothing I had ever read before. He was researching about how to store magic into rocks and crystals. I’m not sure why, but it was more interesting then what was going on in the classroom at the moment.   “So why are you going back to classes?” Godric asks absentmindedly.   I huffed, “I’m trying to figure out how to go and see Elder Zarconian, and Varsity is annoying me, and I need a break.” I say reading the pages he is reading and finding out what he is learning from the book.   “Do you want me to disrupt the class room and start attacking random people at the Academy?” He asks, half joking.   I know that if I say yes he will, but I can’t no matter how much I would love him to. I see that he places the book down, he can sense that I am considering his offer. I want to and he knows it, I know he would sacrifice everything to keep me happy. “No, but thanks for asking.” I tell him. I can still feel that he wants to come and isn’t sure about my answer.   I hear my name being called, so I leave Godric and see Ms Glardos standing in front of my desk with her hands on her hips, I know of only one way of getting out of being yelled at, and that is to start crying. I don’t really like crying in front of people, but sometimes it’s the only thing to do.   Before I can do anything her face softens. “Maybe you came back to class too soon.” She says and turns around and heads back to the front of the class. “I will give you a note and tell the other Instructors that you are taking the rest of the day off.”   I start packing up my stuff, when I realise that this is the chance I have been waiting for all day, at lunch I was afraid that it wasn’t going to come.   “Thanks Ms Glardos.” I say trying to figure a way to say it. “Can you tell me where Elder Zarconian is please?” I ask putting my books in my bag.   She turns around so fast that she seems to blur, she glances behind me and then looks back at me looking a little taken back and worried.   “Why, is everything ok?” She asks.   “Yeah, I was just going to ask him something about my dad.” I say putting the strap of my bag over my shoulder.   I don’t know where he is. I went to his office once and I’m not sure how to get back there, and I want to make sure that I know he is there before I go there.   She thinks for a moment, but the voice that answers isn’t hers, it comes from behind me. “He’s in his office.”   I turn around to face her, she doesn’t have a smirk on her face which is a surprise me, she is serious and maybe a little sad.   “Thanks.” I say and start walking away from my desk. “Do you want me to come with you?” She asks looking down at her desk.   “Yeah, if Ms Glardos doesn’t mind.” I say shocking both of them, but I need to see Elder Zarconian and I know that Varsity knows the way.   “No not at all, it might be helpful if you do go Varsity.” She says handing me the note that she had written so I can take the rest of the day off.   Varsity packs up her things and follows me out of the classroom. I don’t know what to say to her or if I even should.   “So how are you doing?” I hear her ask with an amount of concern I’m not expecting.   “Fine.” Is the only response that I can muster, she doesn’t even apologise for throwing balls of paper at me, not that I expect her to.   “Look I know we don’t get along and I have no idea why you agreed to let me take you to see my dad, but I know it must be hard since now you have no parents.” She says with the same amount of concern as before.   I look at her while walking towards Elder Zarconian’s office a little shocked by what she said.   “Yeah, it is a little hard.” I look away from her. “But your dad has helped a little by not expecting too much from me and allowing me to skip classes, even though I’m falling behind.”   We walk in silence for the rest of the way. Varsity doesn’t say anything until we get to Elder Zarconian’s office door. “I could help you catch up if you want.”   “Thanks, that would be great.” I know that accepting help from her might be a massive mistake, but I might be able to ask her loads of questions regarding The Elders and what they do exactly.   I can feel that Godric is thinking the same thing, but he isn’t happy with the way I am going about it. “Ok then, this afternoon after classes?” She asks walking up to the receptionist and asks the receptionist. “Is he busy?”   “No you can go in.” Is all the receptionist says, not even looking up from the computer in front of her.   Varsity doesn’t even knock on the door, she just opens it and pokes her head in and asks. “Are you busy?”   “Shouldn’t you be in class?” I hear Elder Zarconian ask.   “Selaria wants to speak to you and I offered to walk her to your office, she’s a little upset.” Varsity says.   I hear tell-tale signs of someone getting up, a chair scraping on the floor then the sound of someone heaving themselves up, and sounds of footsteps coming toward the door. I know I have to look like I have been crying so I rub my eyes to make them a little red.   I look back up and see Elder Zarconian at the door and Varsity beside him. “Well come in Miss Minx and tell me how I can help you.” He says sounding concerned, or trying to.   Varsity walks past me to the door to the hallway and says. “I’ll come to your room after class and help you then.”   I turn and smile at her. “Yeah that would be great thanks.”   “Come on in.” Elder Zarconian says, moving aside to let me pass and says to his receptionist. “If anyone calls or comes to see me tell them that I’m in a meeting.”   I walk past him and walk towards the chairs that are in front of his desk. “Thanks for seeing me.” I say to him, not sure if I should wait for him to take his seat first or if I should sit down first.   He made the choice for me. “Please sit and tell me what’s on your mind.” He says when he gets to his desk. I sit down and ask. “When can I do the funeral for my father?” I need to know and I need to figure out where I am going to store all our stuff.   “I can talk to my Uncle and see if we have anywhere close to your place where we can store it and then remove it without anyone noticing to a more secure place where only my uncle and I know.” I hear Godric say.   “Yeah that would be great, thanks.” I say hoping that Elder Zarconian doesn’t notice anything strange going on.   “I will speak to the other Elders and see if we can do it in the next couple of weeks.” He says looking at his computer. “Will you want to pack up your things and sell your house, or will you want to keep everything where it is?” He asks looking up at me from his computer.   “I was hoping to pack up my belongings and put it in storage.” I say to him, I hadn’t really thought about selling the house, but I may have to since I won’t be able to keep up with the mortgage. “I hadn’t really thought about selling the house though, I might need some time to think about that.”   “Of course, but whatever action you choose than we will help you with that.” Elder Zarconian says, giving me his creepy smile.   “Yeah right they will, and take everything away from you.” I hear Godric say.   “Thanks, it’s just really hard at the moment, losing both parents.” I say looking down at my hands. “It’s just weird, I still think he’s alive and that’s why I want to have a funeral him, so I have some closure.” I continue and look up at him.   “I understand, I will find some Protectors and Trackers to go with you so you are safe and the Rebellion doesn’t try and do the same to you.” Elder Zarconian says, trying to be reassuring.   But I only trust the Rebellion, funny how that happens the people he’s trying to protect me from are the only ones protecting me from the Elders.   “Thanks, you don’t realise how much that means to me, knowing that I’ll be safe.” I say smiling at him.   Elder Zarconian starts typing something on the computer and asks. “How are you and Varsity getting along?”   I don’t know how to answer that question, since we aren’t. “We don’t really see each other that much since I’m not going to classes.” I say thinking that can be a nice vague answer.   “I see, well I’m glad that she is helping you catch up with your classes.” He says looking up from his computer. “How is your magic training going? Your Personal Trainer says that you are getting stronger, but not as strong as he was hoping, but I have told him that your mother was non-magical.” He smiles at me, I’m unsure if it is a question or a statement.   “Yeah it’s going well, Marcus is really patient with me and is showing me different ways for me to get stronger.” Which is sort of true.   “I’m glad to hear.” He says seeming to be actually happy by what I said. “I thought you both would be a great match.”   “There is something else that I would like to know.” I say in a quiet voice and I put my head down, wondering if I have said it loud enough for him to hear.   “What?” He asks sounding a little worried.   So it worked, I’m not sure if it would. “I was wondering if I would be able to see the man that killed my father?” I ask looking up at him, trying to have a look of sadness and hope at the same time. “It’s just I want to see the monster who killed my father so I can ask him why.” I say before he can interrupt.   For a moment I don’t think he will go for it, but then he nods. “Of course, we are still interrogating him, but I can have him brought up when you feel you can handle it.” He says and starts typing on his computer. “But don’t worry, we will have him in chains so he won’t be able to hurt you ever again.” He continues, trying to sound really reassuring.   I guess that Godric was right, Elder Zarconian is willing to do whatever I need him to do to stay loyal to him. “Thank you and can we do it today?” I ask, wondering if I am asking too much.   “Do you think you are ready to see him so soon?” He asks sounding confused and a little concerned.   “I want to get it done as fast as I can, so I can not only mourn my father’s death but also move on and become a stronger person.” I say trying to sound convincing.   “Why do you want to see him today?” I hear Godric ask sounding confused.   I don’t really want to talk about it with him, but I show him some of my plan on getting Ezera freed and get him back with the Rebellion.   “I understand and I like where your head is at.” He says and starts typing on his computer again and then looks back at me and smiles. “I can have him here in about fifteen minutes.”   It is a bit sooner than I thought, but I’m not sure if he means here as in his office or here as in the Academy.   “Ok thank you, do I just stay here with you or do you want me to wait somewhere else?” I ask hoping I can just wait somewhere.   “You can stay here if you wish.” He says with that scary smile on his face, and then he turns back to the computer. Whatever he saw there he didn’t like, he tries to cover it up quickly but I have already seen his face.   “The man will be coming here, so if you would like to do some of your school work, you can sit over there on the couch and if you have any problems I’ll be here to help and if you would like I can get my daughter to come here instead of your room.” He says trying to sound helpful, but failing.   I really want to know what he didn’t like that is on his computer. But I don’t want to get caught snooping into his mind.   “Yeah that would be great.” I say smiling, hoping that maybe I can try and see how far I can get into his head before Varsity and Ezera arrive.   “Well go get comfortable and do you want anything to eat?” He asks getting up and going toward the door.   “Can I get a cup of tea and maybe a muffin?” I ask hoping that is the right answer.   Judging from the look on his face it is.   “Coming right up.” He says sounding pleased with my answer.   I get my books out and make it look like I am going to start doing some work. I put feelers out when Elder Zarconian leaves the room and walk to his desk. He didn’t lock his computer, which means that I am lucky enough to be able to get a quick glance before I feel that he is returning. I notice that Godric’s mother is on the screen as well as some other names.   I quickly go to the other side of the desk and start looking over as if looking for something when Elder Zarconian walks in.   “Is there something I can help you with Selaria?” He asks curiously walking over to his desk and shuts the screen.   “My pencil is blunt and I forgot my pens, and I am just seeing if you had a sharpener on your desk.” I say worried that he might know that I looked at the screen.   “Here, I always keep a few in my desk, not on them.” He says with a slight laugh, opening a draw and pulling out a sharpener. “I don’t need them, but my daughter seems to always have the same problem.”   “Thank you.” I say and walked back over to the couch and start on one of the books.   I see that Godric knows about his mother and is about to contact his mother, to make sure that she is ok, but if she doesn’t answer he’s going to have to contact his Uncle straight after to make sure that nothing has happened to her.
