Two things happened in the weeks that followed. One, Craig went to work for the senator. I knew this without talking to him. I knew this because the media was reporting on it. Craig was receiving the spotlight, while I was stuck in Bozeman, Montana. I wondered what I’d done in a past life to f**k up my karma so badly. I imagined it involved kicking puppies, teasing orphans. Or maybe kicking orphans, teasing puppies. Perhaps a sicko combination of the two. In any case, Craig was given some sort of badge and allowed to work with law enforcement when they asked for help, all under the watchful eye of the esteemed Bertrand Randall. Craig was a genius.
