Chapter 5

I just walked away, prying my hand loose from his grip. I didn't turn back but I knew he felt a pang of pain. It only ached a bit in my neck but not much, It was manageable. I walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water, I went to the fridge, and took out a bottle of water then closed it back, then I met them, my true family - Natasha and Rachel. "O... M... G, Maya!!" Rachel hugged me tight ... really tight. I hugged her back. They're the only people I call family, others are nothing to me, not Olivia, or the nurse who is speculated to be my step-mother, or Jax, at least not anymore, not after what he did to me. She released me and looked at me, like really looking at me, her eyes were obviously tired… and she looked chubbier. "How are you?" She asked me, her voice sounding weak and strained. I shook my head, seeing how weak she looked. "No... how are you? Why are you looking so... Soo... kinda chunky but your eyes are hollow." I said carefully, staring at her body, I held her arms apart, revealing her bulging belly. She shook her head, trying to snatch her hand away. I held her firmly, as she looked down in embarrassment. I smiled widely in pure excitement. "You're pregnant?! Oh My Goodness! I'm so happy for you!" I screamed, squealed in pure joy, shaking her excitedly, she only gave a small smile which seemed forced. My smile faltered. "What's wrong?" I asked gently, trying to figure out what was wrong with her. "It's not Frank's" I heard Natasha sayI turned to her, like I didn't hear well. "What did you say?" I asked, my brow furrowing in disbelief. I turned back to see Rachel, her eyes already red, tears flowing freely, her lips quivering as she tried to muffle her cries. My heart broke at the sight of her, I hugged her tight, patting her back to console her. "What happened?" I asked calmly, stroking her hair as she sobbed in my neck. "She was r***d three months ago after she had an argument with Frank. She doesn't remember who got her pregnant ." Natasha said walking up to us, a glass of milk in her hand as she handed it to Rachel. Rachel gulped down the milk, her tear-stained face twisted in pain. I stared down at my feet."You didn't tell me, that's one. Two, Just blame it on Frank!" I said "After all, he's your husband!" "I thought I could but he's impotent!" Rachel said "And now he's openly cheating in our matrimonial bed with many other women." Rachel started sobbing all over again, clutching her belly. I held her tighter. "Hey, it's okay. Leave that man, he never marked you, remember you are only honouring Alpha Leonard's wish... But he's dead, it's time to move on," I said, Natasha gave me a stare, a look of respect. She nodded in approval. "I told her the same thing." Natasha said leaning on the kitchen island "How can you say that?! Your father was like a father to me and I respect him and his decisions, he chose Jax for you, aren't you still gonna be with him?" Rachel asked, lifting her face to meet my eyes. I was caught off guard by her question. I looked down trying to think of a valid answer to that. "Let's leave me out of this. We're talking about you and your unborn pup, okay? Leave him, the moon goddess would be happy that you left that man!" I said brushing off the question she asked me. I didn't want to tackle that topic... for now. They exchanged a look that was hard to miss, then Rachel sighed. "I don't want to raise a pup on my own. I want my pup to have a father." Rachel said in a small voice, twisting her fingers. "Hey, you'll be okay... hmm?" Natasha assured Rachel, I nodded to encourage her. She gave us a small smile. "I'll think about it." She said, I stood up to leave. "I have to freshen up..." I said, I began to make my way to the door, when I heard Rachel's voice behind me. "You have changed! There's something different about you," as I turned to her, giving her a tired smile. "I think so too. I'll chat with you guys later," and with that I left there. I walked to Jax's room, that room that was supposed to be ours. The room where I was supposed to belong to him, but he believed my sister's lie and not me. I walked to the bathroom for a bath. The bathroom was filled with so much light, I squinted to adjust to the brightness as I had been in the dark for a long time, I faced the mirror remembering the way Jax stared at my neck. I checked my neck, both sides of my neck and I noticed something looked missing... I couldn't place a finger on it. I brushed it off, making myself a bubble bath. I stepped in one foot at a time, sinking into the bubbly water, I balanced properly, resting my head, my mind wandering involuntarily, I was so lost in thought that I didn't even notice Jax had been by the bathroom door. "Have you been listening to me?" His voice snapped me back from my wandering thoughts, I turned to meet his gaze - his sharp green eyes, chiseled jawline and imposing presence. (How long was he here?) I thought "No, I haven't. What did you say?" I replied in complete boredom. He exhaled deeply. "Where's my mark?" He asked, his eyes getting darker, his voice hoarse, losing control. I stared at him for a long time, a very long one. But he wasn't lying. I raised my two hands to touch both sides of my neck. Nothing!... Actually, nothing. I didn't panic but my mind was in turmoil. (How is this possible?) (Where did my mark go?) I didn't want him to know I cared, so I just shrugged, relaxing back into the tub. He stared at me incredulously. "I asked you a question!" "I don't know," I replied, closing my eyes. "What do you mean you don't know?" He asked, his voice slightly rising, with a hint of panic. (What's he panicking for? He gladly threw me in the dungeon before.) I sat still in the tub, not replying. When he rushed to me, rinsing my neck like I used make up to conceal his mark. His face grew agitated, he stared at my neck then his face lightened up, like he had an idea. He pulled me out of the bathtub with my bare body. I panicked and snatched my hand from Jax, grabbing a towel from the bathroom door and wrapping myself in it. "What the heck is your problem?" I asked in shock. He stared intensely at my neck and I knew what he was going to do. I covered my neck instinctively, shaking in disagreement. "No. You can't!" "I'm sorry... I have to," he held my shoulders firmly, throwing one of his arms around my waist and the other on my neck. "Stop it! Leave me alone." I screamed trying to break free from his tight grip but he didn't budge. In a split second, his teeth sank in my skin, I sucked in air as his teeth sunk in. I felt dizzy and pushed him away with all my strength. I covered my neck but he held my hand to check the mark. In front of his eyes the mark disappeared leaving a purplish mark there not a mate mark but more of an injury mark. He looked at me in disbelief, he didn't have words to utter, he stared and stared and I saw many things, as a matter of fact, cross his eyes: pain, loss, disappointment among many other things. A tear slid down his cheek, his breathing became ragged. He turned and left the room. I stood there, my heart aching, I held my chest as I walked to bed, I sank in closing my eyes as pain erupted through my chest. I ran to the sink, coughing uncontrollably. I held my chest as the cough reduced then I tasted it… metallic like taste… Blood! I spat it out. I stared at it, panic exploding in my heart (what is going on?) I threw on some clothes and decided to head to the infirmary. I walked to the room door and left. On my way to the infirmary, I met Kelly, I didn't even want to spare her a glance or exchange words with her. I walked past her trying to avoid her purposely by all means. "I know who got Rachel pregnant..." I paused, my feet paused, my head stopped, my brain paused for a moment. I snapped to her, she held out a paper. I looked at her, knowing she could be ... Could be? She WAS a crafty person. I carefully took it from her and realized it was an address; I studied her face, it looked like pity and disappointment. I took the paper and walked out of the manor. I hailed a cab and went to the address. At first I was supposed to get myself to the infirmary but I had to find out who got Rachel pregnant! She is my homegirl. I was kind of anxious but I knew I must know this person. The drive seemed long until we arrived at the location. It was a hotel. I walked in, not caring about the stares and whispers, I walked to the opened room and there, I found the one and only Olivia, straddling a man, whose face I couldn't make out at first. (This must be the man who r***d Rachel) I thought. I took out my phone and started recording, I lifted my face from my phone to see who it was... My heart turned icy cold. It was Jax…
