Prologue
The wind whipped around my face as I ran through the woods. I could hear the sticks cracking behind me. He was close behind me. He wasn’t even trying to hide how close he was behind me. “Where are you, princess?” He called into the night. “Come back to daddy.”
I kept running as fast as I could. Not daring to even look back. I had seen horror movies before. As soon as they look back, they fall. It is almost avoidable. I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t let him find me. I couldn’t go back to that house. Not after everything that has happened. Not even after my feelings started to become unexplainable. I had to get away from him. I had to become free again. I didn’t know what he even meant by keeping me safe. I lived in one of the safest neighborhoods with a father who helps me pay my bills. There were lots of girls who were actually in danger. Why did he have to come for me? How did I become his target? Why me?
I kept running fast. It was hard with no shoes on, but I had no time to find shoes. I had no time to grab anything. I know he had my phone somewhere in that house. I should have tried to find it, but I knew I had no time before he would find out. He left the door open. He had become too trusting. I couldn’t blame him, I had been letting my guard down as well. I had been forgetting what he had done to me. He had taken me from my home. From everything I had known. Kept me in a room for weeks, maybe even months. Yet, somehow I had feelings for him. Somehow I felt something for him. Something I have never felt for anyone. How could that even be possible? How could I love him?
I didn’t need to think about that now. I needed to run. To get as far as I could go. To find help. They had to be looking for me. My parents wouldn’t let me disappear like that. My friends wouldn’t. Someone had to be looking for me. I just had to find…
SMACK! I hit the hard ground below me. Everything going black.
