Chapter One: An Odd Day At School
Katherine was woken up by her alarm, startled but already out of bed. She had school in about an hour so the bus would be here soon, she wanted everything about her to be perfect so she would be able to not stand out and would be able to just sit in the library without people coming over to her.
She finished up with her routine and headed out to the bus, she went to the front and made chat with the bus driver. She was the first one on the bus since her house was closer to the school, it was something convenient that she really liked.
She played with her phone while the bus was moving, writing a book on her small keyboard as she smiled. If this ended up making her enough money, writing could be her full-time job when she's one year older. She wanted to make sure she had everything perfect in her life.
Anything that was a convenience to her made her life even better.
After all the kids were picked up, the bus made it to the school. Katherine made her way out of the bus, her bag on her shoulder as she went towards the school doors. She didn't have a lot of friends to say hi to, so she just went towards the library.
It was closed right now, but she sat outside of it while writing down her ideas for her books. Then also reading her book that she had gotten from this specific library, it was about two wolves fighting each other but then in the end falling deeply and madly in love with each other. It was the normal enemies to lovers type of plot, but it was twisted with better characters and animals.
She enjoyed the book, it even gave her writing motivation to make her own book, obviously not the same plot. She was more into writing horror or tragedy, she would prefer to twist romance plots and make them into something darker and drearier. It was better writing for her, and way more fun.
The bell rang and it was already time for class, she sighed sadly as she put her book and notebook away in her bag, zipping it up and getting up from the ground.
Katherine made her way to her first class, science. Which she didn't particularly like, but she tolerated it since it was required to graduate.
She got her notebook out, taking notes from the class so she could actually learn something and not just stare off into space the entire time. She felt eyes on her, but she chose to ignore it, it was probably the teacher wondering what she was doing.
A few classes had passed now, the clock rang and she left her last class before lunch.
Katherine made her way to the cafeteria with her bag, she wasn't that hungry so she caught up on some math homework she had been procrastinating for a while on it, and she didn't want to fall behind.
While she was writing math notes, she heard footsteps come near her table. She looked up for a second, seeing a disheveled black haired boy in front of her.
"Is... uh... anyone sitting here?" His voice was slightly quiet, he must be somewhat shy or something. At least she thought he was.
"Not particularly, I'm just studying. I'm guessing you are too? Since I see that you don't really have a plate." Katherine made some small talk, she was kinda glad he didn't have a plate because his food would probably get all over her math notes. And it would be weird for him to just sit down with no food or intention to study.
"Uh... yeah. Definitely." He mumbled, sitting down on the other side of her. He was slightly shaky, which was weird to Katherine. It wasn't really cold in here, maybe he's weird like that sometimes.
While he was staring down at his notebook and looking like he was writing something, probably math notes also. She looked up at him to just study him for a bit, he had black hair and green eyes, emerald green too so they were even more interesting to look at for her. She just generally liked how he looked, in an aesthetic type of way.
Then his pencil dropped on the floor, more so he dropped it himself. Katherine looked down due to the sudden sound.
"Um... dropped my pencil." He says, quickly picking it up. She just nodded, avoiding the conversation he wanted to have with her at the moment. She tried to just focus on her math notes now, but she caught herself looking up every now and then to look at him. He was just so interesting to look at, just in general in a pretty way. He was pretty.
"So, I feel like I've seen you around before. Your name's Gavin, right?" Katherine started another conversation, looking up at him and putting her math notes away to socialize with him.
Gavin looked up at her again, blinking a bit. "..yeah.. we're in the same math class together... I think!" He retracted his statement really quickly, but it didn't seem suspicious enough to Katherine to be anywhere near a red flag.
"And you're... Katherine, right?" He seemed to light up when saying her name, as if he had said it so much times before. He was an interesting person, indeed.
She nodded rapidly, "Yep. You're very interesting, are you okay though? Because you seem very awkward and shaky." She brought up, hoping she didn't accidentally offend him in a horrible way. He looked down again, she definitely offended him.
"Sorry, I'm not really used to talking to people in general... at all." He mumbled, fidgeting a bit with the seat he was on. No wonder he was so awkward, it was hard to tell when he had talked to an actual person ever in his life.
"Oh, I see... You're not really a social butterfly type of person, are you? Sorry if I offended you or made you uncomfortable with my question." Katherine continued the conversation, feeling bad for hurting his feelings as she really didn't want to hurt him.
He just nodded, not really seeming offended from her comment at all. He was more so just not good with people, Gavin wasn't too good at talking to people or getting along with them.
"I... I wasn't offended, it's just a genuine question... Just not good at talking.. Trying to challenge myself though.. slightly.." His voice was so quiet that she had to focus to actually hear what he was saying to her, she could tell that he wasn't good around people from the first interaction, but it just came off as a little creepy instead of awkward.
She was kinda into him, he was an interest person. But that was weird for her, she never wanted to fall in love with anyone. Especially not during high school, the almost prime of her life.
But it was already fated, she liked him. And really, she liked him a lot.
