After most of school was done, Katherine Harold made her way to the library with her bag. She had already finished the library books she had gotten yesterday, so now she wanted the next books in the series to go along with the daydream she created inside of her brain.
She checked her books back into the library with the lady, who was very cranky that she bothered her and existed in general. Katherine still decided to be nice, because she would rather die then get sent to the principal's office because she gave the same energy the library lady gave to her right back.
After she checked in her books, she went to the back of the library where all the good series were so she could read more of them and get into the groove of reading them. Because if she didn't read them a little before leaving, she would forget to read them entirely and not have the motivation to even start them.
It was an annoying, small quirk that she had to deal with in life. Not a convenience in the slightest. It was quite the opposite, actually, an inconvenience.
While she was reading, she heard someone's footsteps walk into the library as she looked up. It was Gavin again, it was strange to find him in all the same places she was, but she assumed it was all just coincidence and she was making a big deal out of nothing.
She was actually excited that he was also a very big reader, as usually she was the only one that ever walked into the school library to not annoy the lady there or gossip about what other students were doing. No one else seemed to understand reading like she did, it was basically like going to another reality but from the comfort of a chair or bed. She was a little obsessed with it, maybe hyperfixated too. She was also autistic, so that was also probably the reason she liked it so much.
Katherine hurried up to him, prepared to give him some small talk to not scare him off too soon, and then reccomend all the books she likes so she has another person besides her confused father to rant to about all of her favorite books. "Hey! Funny seeing you here, how are you doing?" It was only a day in since she had seen him, but she already acted like she had known him their entire terrible lives.
Gavin blinked a few times then stared at the ground below him, already regretting coming here from the cheerful language of the blond haired girl before him. "I'm doing okay, I guess..." He was still mumbling a ton on his words, but at least he was spitting out some full sentences instead of small gibberish.
Katherine liked to think that she had somehow fixed his introverted persona, and he was one step away from becoming exactly like her so she could have another person to talk to about the most randomest things.
"I'm guessing you've never been here before, want me to show you all my book reccomendations? It'll only be a few minutes, I promise!" She said all cheerfully and friendly, making Gavin back up a little in fear and regret coming here. He didn't have a choice though, she had so many books that she loved and wanted to show off to at least one other human being on this planet.
"I guess.. that's fine." He finally didn't mumble and fumble on his words this time so they were making progress, or at least, she was making progress with his introvert-like behavior he had.
She then began showing him every single one of the books that she absolutely loved and adored in every way, he tried to pay attention to her while just being scared of this entire social interaction in general.
"So this one is about two wolves falling in love with each other in the end, but before that they just absolutely hate each other and see each other as enemies due to being from rivaling packs." Katherine went on to explain one of her favorite books, pacing around a little so she could get motivation to keep on talking about it. "But in the end, they decide to leave both of their packs and run off to create their pack together. The animal kingdom is so interesting when you twist it and make it human-like, very interesting indeed."
Gavin just stared at the book, finding the binding very pretty and kinda wanting to read it himself. Even though he was stressed from all the talking from Katherine, he sort've enjoyed her company, in a way. "Yeah... that's interesting alright.."
Katherine found his response a little bit rude, but he was very awkward so it was quite likely an accident on his part. "Yep! Anyways, onto the next book I want to introduce you to!"
This went on for about a few hours until they realized how dark it was getting, and the library lady was about ready to go home and leave them there in a dark. They both quickly checked out their books and ran out to the hallway so she didn't scream and yell at them too long, neither of them wanted to deal with that.
"Well... I guess I should get going." Gavin spoke up, talking very firmly and alively this time. Katherine grabbed his wrist to quickly stop him before he left, she just needed one more thing from him. It was a small thing though.
"Wait... just one more thing I need to ask you about, sorry." She began, getting a paper from her pocket and then a pen. "Want to exchange numbers?"
It was an unexpected, off-handed question, but Gavin did not seem surprised from it. They did talk a lot while in the library. "You know what? Sure."
He wrote his number in the paper that she had given to him with the pen, then handed it right back to her. She put her number on another piece of paper, giving it to him.
"Call me tonight, if you want! It was very nice to meet you as a person, Gavin. Today was great." She says, then waits for her dad to pick her up.
Gavin was left stun from her comment, but he left after a few minutes.
