Little author’s note:
I want to start writing in their perspectives (first person) but I don’t know if I should. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy writing in third person but first gives me more opportunities to show the character’s inner thoughts. However, I prefer writing from a female POV so by doing it in first person I would have to write as Ajax- but I don’t know what the quality of that would be.
Anyway, please let me know what you think but I hope you have had a nice day and enjoy the chapter:
-8-
With wide eyes Laviania gagged, her wolf on the other hand barked in excitement. Groaning, the girl turned away. There was no way in hell this was going to happen. Much to Rae’s dismay, Lavi sharply glared at Ajax- who knew perfectly well the meaning of what he had just said.
“I think I’ll take the cell,” Lavi spat, all of her anger directed at him. She had her right after all he had injected her with some weird serum,” I think I would prefer the deepest, darkest parts of hell that staying in your room!”
Hurt flashed around Ajax’s eyes but the cold look soon returned. He knew one day she would change her words, unfortunately that day was not this one.
In fact, Ajax was about to tell her she could quite happily sleep there if she so wished but his mother decided to fly in at full speed.
“Ajax Joseph Valerie Adonia!” A short but fiery woman scolded, her small frame flurried to the outside of the cells.
Laviania chuckled, looking her mate in the eye,” Valerie. Nice,”
“Oh shut it,” He growled, trying to deny the fact that his middle name sounded nice when she said it.
“You do not talk to your mate that way!” The woman shouted again, she had now found a way into the cells and was holding her son by the collar of his shirt,” Do you think you would have been born if your father did this to me?”
Leaning against the cells, Lavi looked to Rocco with a smirk. She was enjoying this. The big bad wolf getting told off by his mother. It was an amusing situation that she wasn’t going to miss. Rocco laughed lightly, and indicator that this wasn’t an unusual event.
“Oh hello deary!” The woman called, gaining Laviania’s attention. In the dim light she could see the woman’s greying brown hair,” I am Odanna- Ajax’s loving mother,”
Lavi extended her hand and shook it with Odanna’s,” Laviania. Friends call me Lavi”
Ajax looked up, his heart warmed. Her name was even more beautiful than he had imagined. He’d never heard of it either. A unique name for a unique girl, his mate was perfect in more ways than he could of imagined.
He stepped towards her, only to get an artic glare,” Anyway Lavi-“
“I said only friendscall me Lavi,” The strawberry blonde warned, Odanna and Rocco giggled,” You can call me Miss- be lucky you are even getting that,”
Growling in frustration, Ajax left the cell. He mind-linked his mother to try and find the reason she was on the territory in the first place. If he stayed any longer he may have punched a hole in the wall, that would have been a great welcome home memory for his mother.
Back in the cells, Laviania couldn’t deny the slight loss her heart felt as Ajax stormed out of the basement. As quickly as it came it disappeared as she turned to the only two people she seemed to like in this place, Odanna and Rocco.
“Can you tell me why you are here sweetie?” Odanna asked softly, guiding her over to the breaking bed- it sunk a lot but it wasn’t from their weight,” And I don’t mean about the cells I mean the territory in general,”
Biting her lip, Lavi looked away. There was no way she would tell them the whole truth. She wasn’t even ready to remember that herself. Slowly, she returned her gaze to the caring woman who had defended her despite not knowing anything about her.
With a deep breath she began to retell part of the truth,” I was on the run from some really horrible people. Truly horrible. In all honesty I didn’t know where I was going but anywhere was safer from where they could get me,”
Rocco had now entered the cells too and was listening intently,” Who are they?”
“Sorry Rocco I want to tell you but I can’t bring myself to,” Lavi admitted, the sincerity in her voice made him sure it was no lie,” I was given a necklace to hide my scent by someone. They said I would be safe here. It wasn’t until a week later I realised this was a pack territory,”
“Why didn’t you request to join the pack?” Odanna questioned, she was using her words carefully as she didn’t want to prod where it was unnecessary to.
With the sorriest eyes Laviania looked up,” I was afraid to. There are reasons I was running and there are reasons I didn’t join. But I was never a threat. I have been here for four years,”
The motherly instincts Odanna had were raging, how long had this girl been living alone like this?” How old were you when you came here?”
“It was the night of my fourteenth birthday when I first arrived,” Lavi explained slowly,” I’ve been sleeping rough ever since. I joined school by forging my parent’s signatures and keeping as low a profile as I can. I’ll admit I have stolen from people but I was only some spare change here and there. Just enough for food,”
“But anyway,” Lavi began, breaking the silence that had fallen on them,” Can I leave now?”
Odanna’s eyes grew dark for a second before they returned to normal. With a steady shake of her head, the woman stood up and walked to the exit,” I do not have the power to let you out. That is up to Ajax to decide,”
Tears prickled at Laviania’s eye lids but she blinked them away, she would have to wait until everyone had left. If they saw her crying they would think she is weak, weakness makes you vulnerable.
“I will speak to Ajax about it,” Odanna promised, her smile reassured the girl that she was telling the truth.
Ajax’s mother left but Rocco still remained, watching her intently. Despite his friendly nature, something about his gaze made her nervous.
“They are nice people,” Rae mumbled in her head, trying to persuade the girl to open up. Using all her mental ability, Lavi blocked her wolf out. She didn’t need the battle of power between them today- she always felt like the bad cop in their relationship.
A new scent entered the cells. Laviania instantly became on edge, waiting nervously for the person to reveal themselves. It wasn’t her mate’s smell but it must be some kind of relation to him as there was the chocolaty vibe around it.
Soon there was a messy brown haired boy watching the two of them. He was taller than Ajax but thinner, he definitely wasn’t as strong. He may be a cousin or brother. The skin tone was too similar for them not to be.
“Jasper, Ajax’s brother,” He replied to her thoughts, almost as if he was reading them. Laviania noted how his voice was cold but had some kind of warm raw emotion. Was he happy to meet her? It sounded like he didn’t even like her…
Hand outstretched, Jasper waited in anticipation. As her hand stretched through the bars to touch him she felt and odd spark. Something wasn’t right.
When her pale palm was about to meet his, he was suddenly sent flying down the tight hall. Body slamming against the ground, Jasper growled. Ajax stood over him, his chest heaving up and down. Why had he just attacked his own brother.
“Detransform you damn rouge!” Ajax ordered, Lavi observed shaking at his harsh tone.
Detransform? Lavi didn’t understand. He wasn’t in wolf form. By detransform he made no sense at all.
Orange dust evaporated off of Jasper’s body. It burned and cackled as the yellows wrapped around his legs and arms tightly. With a boom, all the colour disappeared into a sizzle of black smoke leaving behind a black haired pale skinned man. A deep and sickening smell of rouge was released into the room.
Heart stopping, Laviania took a step back. She recognised him. He was one of them.
“No,” She whispered in a silent voice, the room around her was frozen and closing in.
Rocco’s prescence was the only thing she could feel behind her, his arms wrapped around her body,” You won’t want to watch what happens next,”
But she did, more than anything in the world. If she wasn’t Ajax’s mate would she experience the same fate? That wasn’t her main concern as she knew that by that man being in these cells- they knew where she was.
Standing over the man, Ajax picked up his face and dragged him to his feet. It was surprising that his neck didn’t break from the sheer force of being lifted in such a way. The man didn’t seem the slightest bit fazed, he was too insane to be.
“Why are you here?” Ajax hissed, venom latched onto his voice.
With a menacing guffaw, the man looked directly to Laviania,” Boss will be pleased when he knows where you are,”
Screaming, Laviania pushed Rocco back with all of her might. There was a new kind of strength raging through her, mixed with undeniable fear. She hadn’t lived this way for four years for them just to find her and torture her again. That wasn’t going to happen.
Her wolf now stood in the tight hallway, her veins pulsated with the anger she had kept hidden for all these years. Even in his deluded state, the rouge felt the fear. Ajax had stepped back, awe covered his face but she couldn’t care less for it.
Charging full speed, Rae –who had long since taken over Laviania- knocked the rouge to the ground. On top of him, she barked the loudest and most ferocious bark she had ever done. Growls ripped through her chest as she barred her teeth as a sign of what was to come.
“Kill me,” He teased, his voice stank of alcohol- reminding her of the darker days,” He’s still coming to get you,”
Teeth making contact with his neck, Rae tore his head off of his body. Blood poured out of him.
Laviania was back in control. She stepped back in shock. Her human form was now cradling herself on the ground- clothes blood stained and tattered. She couldn’t believe what she had just done.
“I’m a monster,” She cried, salty tears falling- she should look weak like this. Out of anger she had taken someone’s life.
Arms wrapped around her- Ajax’s scent engulfed her form. Sobs wrecked her body as she clung onto him, she wouldn’t deny that his warmth soothed her to no end. The memory of what she had just did kept replaying, each time it did her heart wrenched in guilt.
She was drowning in her sorrow.
Soon her throat dried, nothing else could come out. Her ears adjusted to her surroundings and she could hear the sounds of many people in the cells- yet they all seemed quitter than Ajax’s soothing words.
“Whoever they are- they wont get you,” Ajax kept trying to assure but she shook her head and sighed.
Laviania looked up at him, with her clearest voice she said,” He will. He did once and he will do it again,”
Ajax’s grip tightened, trying to make her feel safe. How he desperately wanted to know what his little mate had been through but the walls she had up blocked him from entering. He didn’t know how to knock them down without forcing his way inside, but by trying to force his way in she would just make her walls even thicker and tougher.
“I just want to feel safe,” Laviania muttered, not really to any one in particular.
Making a vow to keep her safe, Ajax cuddled her closer than what he ever thought was physically possible.
