A 37 year old single, gay man was suddenly told he was the father of a 15 year old girl brought by childcare services. Her mother had recently passed away and with no other living relatives he was the only person that could take care of her as to not be sent to an orphanage. But can a man who had already resolved himself to live alone become a good father so late in life?

Childcare (1)
Your Temporary Lover Volume 1 Takano Masamune Chapter 1: Childcare (1) *** “Ugh… why is anyone ringing the doorbell so early in the morning…?” Chazz wondered to himself as he walked slowly towards the door, his messy hair and disheveled appearance showing he’d barely had enough sleep the night before. “Hello, I’m from….” The woman he opened the door to, seemed polite, but Chazz was in no state to pay attention to anything she had to say to him at that moment. All of her words turned into a blur until the very last sentence. “…this is your daughter.” “My what now?” Chazz paused as his eyes glanced down at what looked like a 15 year old girl, then back at the woman that said such an outlandish thing to him. “I don’t have any kids, that much I’m sure, besides I’m gay so…” He took a step back as the woman glared at him. “Were you not listening to me? I said we need to do a paternity test to confirm it…” The woman sighed heavily, of course she didn’t look like the girl’s mother, and Chazz surely didn’t remember sleeping with her, even if it was 15 years ago, he would surely not forget a face like hers. “Ah, I get it… so someone told you I was the father and now you’re here to ask for child support on behalf of the mother or something? I don’t really think I can help you though, besides being gay I’m not that financially well off so-” The man was interrupted. “Chazz Riverside, age 37 years old, occupation, a luxury photographer for gravure male models-” The woman paused as the other cut her off. “You don’t need to say all that in front of the kid.” Chazz barked while glaring at the woman, then glancing down at the girl that had a sort of indifferent expression on her face. ‘Then yet she doesn’t look like she cares at all…’ He thought to himself as he sighed. “What do you want from me?” Chazz finally asked as he leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms. “You seem to have good income, enough to support a child.” The woman continued while adjusting her glasses. “So there is no excuse.” “I wouldn’t say that much…” Chazz shrugged his shoulders. “Come with us, you’ll get a better understanding of what’s happening in a bit.” The woman sighed heavily, she seemed more than tired already. They headed together to the hospital, it wasn’t long until they gave their DNA samples and now they were just waiting for the results… “So… where’s your mom?” Chazz asked as he sat at the bench next to the girl that was supposedly his daughter. “She died.” The teenage girl said without hesitation. She didn’t even look at him as she replied, just stared down at her phone, she was playing a game. “Oh… is that why you’re here? Because her family can’t take you in?” Chazz asked as he looked down at his hands, he didn’t really know what to say to her but he wanted to understand the situation better. “Mom doesn’t have any living family… it’s just me… and you apparently.” The teenage girl said, still her eyes not once moving away from her screen, her fingers not once stopping to move as she finished the level. “Who’s your mother? What’s her name?” Chazz asked as he tilted his head to the side. He looked at the girl’s side profile and a part of him couldn’t help but feel she looked familiar somehow. “Does it matter? You’re not going to take me in regardless…” The teenage girl said while finally moving her eyes away from the screen and at the man. ‘I guess she’s already figured me out… I really don’t want to take care of a kid right now, especially not one that isn’t even my own…’ Chazz thought to himself as he leaned his back against the cold white hospital walls. “I don’t want to go to an orphanage…” Suddenly the girl spoke up again with a voice that sounded bitter as if she was about to cry at any moment. “Hm?” Chazz turned to look at her once more and at that moment he understood why the girl was so quiet… she was holding back her tears all this time. He didn’t even want to… or rather he couldn’t even begin to imagine the immense loneliness this little girl was experiencing right now… losing her mother and now being in between going to an orphanage or living with a man she’d never met before… neither of the two seemed like a good option… “Listen… if you really are my kid then-” Before Chazz could even finish his sentence, the same woman that had approached him before came with the nurse in hand with the results. “Congratulations, you are the father.” The woman’s all knowing gaze fell onto the man with a sort of superiority to it. “Am I?” Chazz looked down at the document that said 99%, it was as if he’d done a test in school he didn’t even know the answers to and accidentally got every question correct. Only this wasn’t something he could be happy about. The teenage girl looked disappointed, in her mind maybe she felt this would be just another person that would abandon her. What would a girl that’s not even wanted by her own father be able to say at that moment? Did she even have the right to speak? Is that why she only slumped her shoulders and stared blankly at her screen even though she wasn’t playing her game anymore? “Well… then I guess I’ll take responsibility…” Chazz said in a low mumble of his voice as he glanced at the girl. “What’s your name kiddo?” He finally asked as if it was a question he’d reserved for that very moment. The girl looked up a bit conflicted whether she should be happy or not about being recognized as this man’s daughter…
