Chapter 8

Wonpas village, the chief doctor's residence

Two males faced off with one significantly older than the other but neither of them backed down. Justin stared deep into the man's eyes with no sign of fear but internally he was shocked. The hand he had used to stop the punch felt like it was about to give up on staying attached to his body. It hurt! The punch hurt badly! He had acted spontaneously, giving no thought to the situation before he intervened . But he back down now, not when he had an image to maintain in front of a girl.

Justin increased the strength of his grip forcing the man to leave Matilda. Matilda immediately went to her dad who was still rolling on the floor( this man is f*****g weak! Just a kick and he's still like this). “who are you to interfere?” the goateed man asked looking at Justin. The chief doctor managed to stand up at this moment and answered the question “ h..he's a patient of mi..mine” he said while still clutching his belly. Justin remained silent while he watched the two elders when he noticed the fat boy staring at Matilda while licking his gross lips. Death filled justin's eyes as he stared daggers at the fat boy . The boy was intimated as stopped his looks but still occasionally looked in the direction a few times.

“please, just give me four days. I’ll get you the herb by then.” The chief doctor pleaded. The goatee man narrowed his eyes even more, his mission today couldn’t be completed because of this foolish green haired boy. Having no choice but to agree to the chief doctor's plea, he said “hmmm…I’ll give you two. In two days if the herb isn’t ready then you'll have to surrender your daughter.” He said with one eye sizing up Justin then he focused on the chief doctor. Dr Mutilo heaved a sigh of relief “alright Harold. In two days time then” at least he had averted the disaster for today.

“gustav, let’s go” harold kept stroking his beard as he said to his son, the fat boy, and they left the place. Seeing the two leave, the chief doctor lost the strength he had mustered and he collapsed on the floor. The three youths around carried him into the house and laid him to rest. As the the man slept while Matilda took care of him, Justin felt it was time to really know what was going on. Tapping kulin he asked “ hey man, can you explain what’s going on to me? I don’t really get”.

Kulin looked at justin with his broken nose, dropping his head he started “ it all began when Matilda caught the green flu that plaques the village three months ago. Coupled with her weak body condition it almost spelled the death of her. Baba had to pull everything in his arsenal to save her, that included borrowing the dry water herb from the elder Harold. He promised to pay him back in a month.with the herb, matilda's life was saved. But obviously the was no way the Baba could get another dry water herb so now he demands that Matilda be married to his son as repayment.” Kulin said, this had been you going on for more than two months now. Sooner or later they would have to surrender.

Justin's eyebrow arched up “his son…you mean that creepy looking fat boy?”. “haha” kulin chuckled a bit at his description “ yes, that creepy looking fat boy is the one he wants to marry matilda”. Justin stroked his chin thinking about what kulin had said. There had to be a way to alleviate the situation, “so how do we pay him back? Is giving Matilda a way the only option?” Justin asked. Kulin was surprised “ we? Ah no mister, don’t involve yourself in this. It’s nothing for you to worry about” he couldn’t involve a man who had nothing to do with it in their matters.

Justin have a pleasant smile “ it’s not an issue for men I’m guessing the chief doctor saved my life right?” Justin stated. Kulin mumbled to himself “well not exactly, you kinda saved yourself ….” Then he answered in his normal voice “yes he did. You were in the verge of death but Baba being as kind as he is saved you” he said staring at Justin. Actually he really wanted Justin to help, he had witnessed the face off clearly. Elder Harold was visibly scared of Justin, for that to happen justin had to be on par with him or even stronger. He wasn’t dumb to stop someone like that from helping them.

Justin himself was very intent on helping…No, it wasn’t because a girl was involved. It was because he was um…he was a man that valued helping people. Yes yes, it was because he was very heroic. It wasn’t because the beautiful Matilda was involved…why would you even think that? ( yeah we all know it’s some b.s. he’s talking but let’s just roll with it)

Justin followed up Julie’s statement “ Then I’ll pay back the debt by helping out in this situation” he said as he rubbed his hands together mischieviously. Kulin smiled inside when he heard Justin say that but he maintained his outer expression “ well since mister insists then I can refuse”. “excellent!” Justin was excited, he finally had the chance go show himself off “ so when do we begin?”

Kulin then explained what had to be done to Justin. The dry water herb only grew in the middle region of the link I forest. There the herb grew as much as the eyes could see. The only problem was it’s residents, the Taijins.

The Taijins were huge bear like animals but with extra ferocity. The dry water herb was their best cuisine and anyone that tried to take as little as a leaf was in for a wild ride.the animals were the only thing stopping people from freely monopolizing the herbs. There once was a group of people who tried to take some, ten of them went in but only one returned to tell the tale.

When the news of the animals entered justin's brain, the first think he could think of was the mutated centipede he had fought a while ago. He had almost died fighting one and now he had to face a bunch of gaijin that were probably not less dangerous than the centipede. Suddenly the confidence he had d idnt seem to be all that strong anymore and it all plummeted.

As kulin saw this, he discretely signaled something to Matilda who was taking care of the still bedridden chief doctor( seriously though, how weak can this man be?). Justin was getting discouraged when * cough* *cough* The chief doctor started coughing violently as Matilda struggled to calm him down. The man weakly stretched his arm out pointing at Justin. Justin saw this and immediately rushed over to the man “what is it elder mutilo?” he said concerned at his situation.

Chief doctor mutilo put on his best “dying face” and he spoke weakly to Justin “ please benefactor…please save my daughter. It’s my dying wish….” Once he finished the sentence he closed his eyes, resting feebly on the bed. Matilda broke out into a sobbing mess as she watched her father. Justin’s heart was pierced. Emotionally manipulated, Justin responded with newly rebuilt confidence “ I swear on my life elder, I will save your daughter before the two days given expires”.

After this had happened, Justin was shown to another room where only him stayed while the rest remained in the other room taking care of chief doctor mutilo. “ yo guys he's gone” kulin said as he closed the door, he had just finished escorting Justin out of the room. The “dying” chief doctor mutilo opened an eye making sure Justin had truly gone. Lo and behold, the chief sat upright like nothing had even happened in the first place and a mischievous glint flashed in his eyes. Matilda who had been sobbing before suddenly stopped and kulin sat with them in a circle.

Smiles plastered the trio's faces. After been caught in a corner for months they had finally found someone to help their situation. And they were successful with their tactical recruitment!
