Chapter 5

Ariana's P.O.V

I'm so happy, Effie finally knows how Nate feels about her and vice versa. The fact that she will become immortal like us once they've mated too is awesome, we will be together forever, the moon goddess has blessed us. Effie's birthday is only a few days away and she will get her fated mate. I don't know if I'm going to be as lucky, I turned eighteen eleven months ago and I'm yet to find my mate. We have gone to all of the bars within the pack territory and I'm yet to find him, I like to dress and act confident making the wolfs and demons feel intimidated by me but it doesn't fill this empty void that burrows deep within me, I'm rarely alone but I'm constantly lonely. I've never told anyone I feel this way they might just think I'm being over dramatic and there will be plenty of time to find my mate, yet being this much of a hybrid often makes me wonder if I will actually be able to find someone who can love me for me.

I find myself walking towards the ice cream shop, I always end up here when thinking about my mate. “Hey Ari, mint and chocolate chip?” asks Liam, I nod and smile at him “yes please Liam” I let my guard down slightly around Liam. He used to go to school with me and Effie until I moved to the witches coven, he has always been one of my close friends and never tried to hit on me either, which is always refreshing. “So what brings you by this time of day?” he asks me smiling lightly, “nothing much just walking lost in my thoughts as per usual” he brings my ice cream and sits down next to me ”Can I talk to you Ari?” he asks looking like the weight of the world rests upon his shoulders, “Yeah of course” I say hoping to loose myself in a conversation and get my mind off my lack of mate “Would you say I was gay?” he asks, I look at him confused “I don't know Liam, I don't suppose it's something that I've ever really thought of, you've always just been my good friend” I answer, he smiles at me but it doesn't reach his eyes.

I take a small breath before we continue the conversation “Is there a reason you ask?” I gesture for him to continue, he sighs slightly “I have found my mate but It's really threw me, don't get me wrong I have always thought he was good looking and admired his kindness but I never felt much more for him” he says, “Okay well I think you have just answered your own question, besides my mom has always said the moon goddess only pairs us to someone who we already feel something for” squeezing his hand lightly, offering him a gentle smile “Thanks Ari” he returns my smile, “Well? What does he think and who are we talking about anyway?” I ask curiously, “It's Adam, he seemed quite happy about it but I freaked and ran off before talking to him” I gasp “Liam! You go find him now and talk to him he probably has the worst running through his head right now” Using my mom's scolding tone, thinking about whether poor Adam is in pain, if he is thinking Liam will reject him. My heart tightens thinking about it, Liam nods his head “Will you cover for me?” he pleads putting his hands together, I roll my eyes “Only if I get this for free” I say smirking. He laughs before passing me his apron “It's on me” he answers rushing off.

Liam has been gone for hours and this ice cream shops had hardly any customers, I'm so bored. “Mate” whispers my wolf Selene, I scowl “huh? Where” I ask not seeing anyone around at all. “Can't you feel him? He's close” she says, but I really can't feel anything then it hits me. The smell of burnt cinnamon, I look to the entrance of the ice cream shop and I'm memorised. A dragon! A black and red dragon has just landed outside the shop, I stand frozen in my spot watching this magnificent creature shift into human form. His hair is jet black, his eyes dark and his skin is a warm caramel colour, as he walks in I notice he's only wearing shorts, my stomach clenches and my heart thumps he's gorgeous.

 He's tall and well built, I've never seen anyone that looks like this in my whole life. He walks towards the counter confidently with a wide warm smile on his face, “Hello there beautiful, aren't you just a sight for sore eyes” he barks out arrogantly which brings me back down to earth “excuse me!” putting my hands on my hips scowling at him this is like a slap to the face with a wet fish, he laughs loud and his laugh makes the hairs on my body stand on end, and my hands sweaty. “Feisty as well haven't I been blessed” he says whilst still laughing I glare at him and can't help but growl, my Lycan's enjoying this but my fey and demon side is ready to kick him out the shop! Mate or not! “So your arrogant great, I'm so blessed” I blurt out sarcastically with an eye roll “I do love a sassy women, fancy sitting with me whilst I have an ice cream, I'm hot” he says winking at me. “Oh with chat up lines like this how can I resist but may I ask the point in eating ice cream you will only melt it with your breath” I reply raising my eyebrow at him. His attitude changes and his laugh is gone, I wonder have I offended him I do hope so “I'll take that as a no then, I'm Allaric and you are?” he says extending his hand, I look at his hand and back to his face giving him my not impressed face “Ariana” I answer shortly. 

“Well Ariana, it's nice to meet you can I have a rum and raisin please” he asks, all arrogance gone and the way my name sounds on his tongue leaves goosebumps. I don't reply and just get him his ice cream, as I pass it over to him he extends a pinky finger to stroke mine gently but the tingles made me nearly drop his ice cream, as my eyes widen in surprise his glisten gold. The feeling floods through my body a surge of pure ecstasy dancing across my skin, “So you know I'm obviously a dragon” looking deep into my eyes as he takes a lick of his ice cream, “mmm...but what are you?” he asks eyeing me curiously. “Unattainable” I smile sarcastically at him, “Oh okay so you don't trust the mate bond?” he questions with a small smirk on his face “I trust the mate bond, but your a stranger and strangers I don't trust” I say, his face is unreadable yet his eyes never leave mine. “You won't find the answers there” I bark out at him, he smiles lightly and starts to talk again as Liam walks back in. “Ari thank you so much for covering” he says and I smile seeing the mark on his neck, he blushes and covers the mark with his t shirt “No problem” I salute before taking off the apron and passing it back to Liam, I turn and look towards Allaric “See you around dragon boy” I say before teleporting out of there.

Back in my room Effie is lay on my bed smiling her head off “Hey comfy?” I say throwing a pillow at her, “Hey rude” she says throwing the pillow back at me. “So how did it go?” I ask her in a teasing tone wiggling my eyebrows, knowing it went well she's wearing a goofy smile “Oh yeah good” she blushes as she answers my question, I laugh at her “where have you been all day?” she asks trying to change the subject, “I was covering for Liam in the ice cream shop, he had to go talk to his new mate, to smooth things over” I answer nonchalantly, she focuses on me “Ari? You thinking about whether you have a mate or not again?” I'm taken back by her words “you knew?” I ask surprised, but she just nodded making me feel pathetic “It's understandable Ari, but your still young there could be a number of reasons why you haven't met your mate yet” she babbles on.

I question momentarily whether I should tell her but decide I would rather see her face when she finds out my mates a freaking dragon “well I kind of fount my mate” I say smiling an biting my lip, her eyes zoomed in on me “You what?, where? When? Tell me everything right now” she rambles out, I laugh at her “Well just in the ice cream shop, it was quiet and boring and then I see him land outside and walk in, he's hot but kind of arrogant, seriously Effie his cheesy pick up lines are ridiculous and so out of date” I say remembering the way he spoke to me “I put him in his place anyway before I left” I answer shrugging like it wasn't a big deal, I could tell from Effie's face she is about to explode “Ari your kind of arrogant you know! How could you just walk out? And what do you mean he landed outside?” She quickly questioned, I couldn't help but laugh “One he's a dragon, two no I am confident not arrogant and three I teleported out since when do I walk?” her face looked more confused but all she said was “A dragon?” she looked at me with disbelief all over her face “A red and black one” I add, finding it quite amusing.

“Ariana!” my dad yells up the stairs, he sounds angry. I grab Effie's hand and we teleport downstairs and sat in my front room is Allaric! I fold my arms across my chest frowning at him “what are you doing here?” I ask annoyed, “I invited him!” my dad answers sharply, I looked towards my dad with a look that could kill, “Why?” I question through gritted teeth, my dad rolls his eyes at me “I called him here to talk with your brother when Allaric reached out to me, there have been disputes between the dragons and witches. Allaric here is the dragons ruler, who wants to seek peace” I couldn't help but laugh, no wonder he's so arrogant he's there ruler! “What's so funny?” Allaric asks curiously the glint back in his eyes “the fact that I'm your mate and part witch” I answer with a large smirk on my face.

“Your his what now?” questions my dad making me laugh more “Oh yeah Allaric here has already introduced himself to me in the ice cream shop” I say, but my dad looks furious “Ariana word now!” grabbing my arm and teleporting us out of the room “dad? What's going on?” I question but his aura is growing darker than usual and I can see anger in his eyes “Ariana I have not brought you up to be this rude! Do you understand how serious this is?” he questions, “dad it's not my fault he's the one claiming I'm his mate, the cocky, arrogant pr..” “Ariana! Don't use that language around me” he scowls, “I'm sorry dad I'm just so annoyed by him, who does he think he is? plus he looks a fair bit older than me” I ramble out, “He's the ruler of dragons and is over 300 years old, he's never once had a mate in all his years! Witches struck first trying to claim land that the dragons have had since before Allaric was born!” my dad says annoyed and disgusted by my tone “He's over 300 years old? The Cradle snatcher” I say trying to lighten the mood, my dad just rolls his eyes “out of everything I have just said and that's what you zone in on” he says smiling. “Come on let's get back to your mate!” he says shaking his head.

Upon arriving back in the pack house Nate is sat in the living room with Allaric they seem to be having an easy going conversation. “Nate can I talk with you for a moment please” my dad says leaving me alone with Allaric. I watched them leave and felt suddenly very anxious and uncomfortable “where did Effie go?” I ask, “she went home, said she will call for you later” he answers shrugging his shoulders. I go and sit down on the sofa furthest away from him. His eyes immediately scanned me “I don't bite you know” he said standing up and walking over to sit next to me “Unless you want me to?” he says biting his lip, “You might not bite but I do!” I say extending my canines, whilst warning him with a low growl but instead he laughs, “I'm sure you do” he saying stroking my arm with his finger, it's hard to explain but there's this magnetic pull, I want to push his hands away from me but I find myself leaning into his touch “So Ariana I didn't make the best first impression on you and for that I'm sorry I panicked a bit, it's just I've never met anyone quite like you, I mean what are you exactly? I now know your brother is the god of harmony and a rare mix of supernatural beings, I'm guessing you have several yourself” he asks, still stroking my arm gently “well you know my dad and you've spoken to my brother I'm sure you would of worked it out by now, surely being over three hundred years old you aren't that stupid or maybe your blind? You know being that old” I say mocking him before moving his fingers away from my arm and keeping my hands up in defence.

“What is it about me that has you acting so resentful towards me? Are you going to reject me?” as he said it there was a strange twinge in my heart, “I told you already, your a stranger” glaring at him slightly, “Your not really giving me the opportunity to get to know you” he retaliates his eyes glowing gold as mine meet his, I sigh “Fine, I'm Lycan, fey, oracle, demon and witch” I say rolling my eyes, yet his eyes never leave mine. “Will you give me a chance to get to know you and let you get to know me?” he asks, scanning me from top to bottom again “I don't know, are you going to stop acting so arrogant and eyeing me like I'm a snack!” I reply, “I can't promise to keep my eyes off you, as you are very beautiful, but I will try not to be so arrogant if you turn the defensive aura down just a little” he says smirking, “I will try but I can't promise anything” I say lowering my hands allowing him to come closer as I do his hand moves to my face and he strokes my cheek, warm tingles spread across my skin and I shiver being in contact with him “mate is so special” says Selene, I don't know if I agree or not but I'm willing to try and find out.
