The boy shrugged. “We’ll be closing soon. Have to throw it out then anyhow. You are welcome to it. Blessings to you.” Lut took his supper and retreated into the sheltering night, wondering a little at the strange benediction offered him twice in the last half hour. He found Lemonwood Street without difficulty, and left the last of the street lights behind as he walked along it, towards Fox Street. A large Victorian house, complete with cupola, dominated one corner of the intersection. Lut had to get quite close to the mailbox to read the number — 1807. This was Jane’s house.
