It was finally nighttime and the party was in full swing. From where I was, I could hear loud chattering from outside. An hour into the party, I was finally called by Lize. Her heart beating racing, I followed her out of the room. The omegas seemed to be pretty busier than ever as the work seemed to triple. More food being cooked, more drinks put out. It seemed like the Luna of the Pack house was on a race to empty their storage. We walked out of the mansion to an area I didn't know existed. It looked more like a stadium. Torches lit the entire stadium, as if to make up for the cloudy night sky. Wooden benches filled with werewolves, and even others standing on the ground. The place was filled to the brim, and, like the sea, the werewolves parted to the side, letting me pass through until Lize was buried among the crowd, and I was pushed to the middle, left in a circle of unfamiliar, excited and yet hostile gazes. Anxiety crept in, but I refused to cower. "Welcome everyone to my humble party," Luna's voice resonated, commanding attention. Their heads bowed as she made her way into the circle, Beta Carson by her side. "Dear guests. I am sure by now, everyone has heard about this special person I have been hosting. Rumors have been spreading that this frail human fought me. I, Luna Paige, the only daughter to Alpha Conrad who once ruled this pack with might. Tonight," she grabbed my shoulder. I flinched as everyone chuckled, that small action seemed to inflate her ego and she smirked. "I will have an omega fight against her, and you can decide for yourselves if the rumor is true or not." I let out a gasp as everyone cheered on. I wanted to step away, but Luna Paige squeezed my shoulder, keeping me in place. I looked at her with so much anger, my fists clenched. I wanted to hit her so badly, but I knew the odds wouldn't be in my favor. "Ooh, you still have some spine left," Luna Paige cooed in my ear and the hair on my skin prickled. My head jerked back, and she squeezed my shoulder lore tightly. "I can't wait to see the look on your face when you see your opponent. But you know what would beat that? When you finally bow to me," she laughed, which sounded more like a hyena. "Don't disappoint me," Beta Carson spoke out. "I am the only one here who placed my bet on you, so you have to give it your all." "Hate to burst your bubble, Carson," a familiar voice spoke. It was Gamma Ron, in a casual outfit this time. He had a bored expression, as if he hated to be there. "Another person bet on her. I wonder what's so special about her anyway?" he said, not bothering to look at anyone in particular. "Guess I'm not the only smart one around here," Beta Carson sighed. "Don't tell me you think she has a chance?" Luna Paige looked at Beta Carson. I could feel her arms tense up, her grip on my shoulder. "No. But it only makes things more entertaining," he answered with a soft smile. That brief eye contact, and the way her grip lightened on my shoulder. Before I could conclude on anything, Luna Paige spoke out, addressing everyone. "Bring out the opponent, let the fight begin." Letting go of my shoulder, Luna Paige stepped aside, and the circle parted once again, only to reveal Gracie. One second, two seconds, three seconds, and then, ten seconds passed. I looked around, waiting for my opponent to reveal themselves. But none did. "Gracie, you are my opponent?" I asked in disbelief, but she wore a stern expression. "I know you are being forced into this, but I'm not going to fight you." "Then prepare to get beaten up," she answered determinedly. "Oohh!" the crowd chorused in amusement. "Fight! Fight! Fight!" the crowd chanted. It felt like all those prison movies where that one prisoner had to fight one of the inmates. I didn't know if it was the loud crowd, or the intense glare from Gracie, whom I thought was a friend, but I felt lightheaded. How could one so easily hate? I wanted to ask. But then, would this be the first time that I experienced something like this? My husband, whom we had spent years together, believed so easily that I was capable of killing my own father for him. "Let the fight begin!" Luna Paige announced from above. I raised my head to see her standing by the railings, twirling around a glass of wine, a smirk on her face, and her eyes filled with glee and mischief. Beta Carson, stood very close to her, and when we incidentally made eye contact, he winked at me. I quickly looked away. Something about his demeanor repulsed me. My attention went back to Gracie, her fists raised and her shoulders squared. What would happen if I actually won this fight? Will it end? Will they let me have a moment of peace? Or would I be forced to face another opponent, and then another, until I no longer have any dignity left? Mimicking her actions, I squared my shoulders, and put my hands in a fist, straightening my back and widening my feet. In the human world, even though I was a rich man's daughter, I wasn't exactly spoiled. I know some self-defense acts. So as long as she is not as strong as Luba Paige, I might have a chance. Pulling her fist backwards, I knew she was going for a punch, so I readied myself. And before her fist met with my face, using all my strength, I held it in my hand. She tried to pull her fist away, but I held it firmly. Gracie growled in frustration before attempting another punch with her free hand, this time, going for my torso, I caught the other fist. She struggled to no avail. Naturally, I was able to tell her next move. Using her leg, she tried to sweep me off and tackle me to the ground, but I planted my feet firmly on the ground. "You are so predictable," I told her, feeling a sense of triumph.
