Chapter 18

The week went by with a blur, of course a few days it was sunny so the Cullens wasn't there so Bella and I of course sat with the group. The guys were talking about some kind of movie that was coming out this weekend but I wasn't really into it. I ate my food and just nodded and spoke when I was spoken too or heard something that caught my attention or interest.

Bella on the other hand, she talked about anything when she could but Jessica she always had to say something. I was glad when school had ended just to get away from them. Like I said they were cool but I couldn't deal with them for long.

By the time the weekend came, I was up before dawn. Before Charlie can even come into the room to get his stuff.

I was sitting up in the bed, working on some of my homework when Charlie had opened the door slowly when he saw I was awake.

"Morning," he said as he closed the door. "At first I thought I woke you up."

"Naw, I just woke up. I couldn't sleep anymore I guess."

"Is everything okay?" He asked as he went to his closet.

"Yea." I said as I put my work down. "Do you care if I go to La Push today?"

"Naw, you wanna ride with me to Jake's and I can drop you off there and pick you up when I get back?" Charlie brought up.

"Yeah, I was gonna hang out there and see if Jake or Embry wanna hang out today."

"I'm glad you're getting to know some of the folks here." Charlie said. "Especially this Embry kid."

"He's cool. His mom, is a good cook." I said as I gathered all my stuff together.

"Yeah, she is. Especially when it comes to deer meat." Charlie said as he got what he needed. "Go get dressed and ready and I'll see you in about 10."

"Yea, totally." I said as I got off the bed.

As I got up both dad and I walked out the room. I went into Bella's room to get a change of clothes. When I walked in there, Edward was half way sitting up against the headboard reading a book. He looked over at me when I opened the door. I smiled at him as I hurried up and closed the door.

"Morning," I whispered at him, trying not to wake up Bella.

"Morning." Edward said whispered back. "Where you off to at 6 am?"

"La Push." I said as I went to the closet. "Gonna hang there for the day while Charlie's fishing. So you and Bella will have the house today."

"Great." He said.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing." He said.

I stopped what I was doing and turned around and looked over at him with a hand on my hip. It was about a minute before he looked at me. Like he couldn't even read my mind on what I was thinking. Even though I was thinking the same thing I had asked.

"You know you can tell me anything right?" I told him.

"Yea I know. And the same to you."

"Then what's wrong?" I asked again a little loud.

When I said that a little loud, Bella had moved a little bit in her sleep. She rolled off of Edward and faced the other way. Both Edward and I looked at her for a moment before making any kind of move.

When I counted 30 Mississippis in my head before I went back to looking for clothes.

"So are you gonna answer me?" I asked softly.

A few seconds went by where I felt air run by me. I looked and Edward was standing next to me.

"I don't like the idea of you going to La Push. Nor Bella." Edward said.

"Why?"

"It's just a long story." Edward said.

"Okay, well I'm going anyways. I have friends there and Charlie's waiting for me actually so we can talk about this later." I told him as I grabbed my stuff and walked towards the bedroom door. But before I could open the door, Edward was right there with his hand on the knob.

"At least be careful please."

"Edward what could go wrong?"

He rolled his eyes at me getting a little snicker out. "Call Bella or me if anything happens. And we will come get you. Well I'll send Bella to come get you."

"And how am I gonna do that with no phone. Bella's the only one that has a phone."

"Right." He said as he pulled out his phone and hands it to me. "There's no lock on it so you're good to go."

"What if you need it?"

"I can use Bella's if I have to. I'll get you a phone later today."

"Edward I can't let you do that." I told him.

"Yes, you can." He told me as he opened the door for me and pushed me out of the room. "Be safe." He said as he shut the door on me.

I shook my head at him as I went to the bathroom to take a shower and put on my clothes. Once I was done, I went downstairs to see Charlie coming back in from outside.

"Ready to go?" He asked me.

"Yeah." I told him as I grabbed my coat off the hook and placed the phone in my coat pocket.

As I was walking out the door I thought in my head to Edward. "Don't do anything stupid with my sister." I said then chuckled.

When I got to the Charlie's truck, I looked up towards Bella's window seeing if Edward was there or not. Of course he was and he shook his head at me with a little smile. I waved at him real fast before Charlie could see what I was doing then got inside the truck.

Along the ride with Charlie, I leaned my head against the window and kinda fell asleep durning the ride. Charlie woke me up when he got to Jake's. When I looked, Billy was opening the door and wheeling himself out of the house with Henry behind him.

"Hey kiddo, you coming along with us old folks?" Henry asked.

"Nope, gonna hang out here for the day." I said as I leaned against the truck.

"Jake's still asleep but you can go inside and make yourself at home if you want." Billy said.

"Will do, Billy." I said with a smile.

I pushed myself off the truck and went inside the house. I went towards the couch and sat down for a moment before laying down to take a small nap.

After a little while, I don’t know for how long, I was being woken up by someone shaking my leg. When I opened my eyes it was Jacob.

“Morning.” I said with a smile.

“Morning, what are you doing here?” Jake asked me.

“I came to hang out with you and your friends. Is that okay?”

“Yeah, sure.” Jake said as he sat down on the couch and placing my legs on his lap. “What do you want to do today?”

“I don’t care. Walk the beach, walk over to Embry’s house. It doesn’t matter.” I told him.

“How about I call him up 1st to see if he’s even awake.” Jake said as he reached for the cordless phone in the end table.

I nodded at him as he dialed a number. I laid there with my eyes closed listening to Jake on the phone.

“Hey Tiffany it’s Jake. Is he awake?” Jake asked.

After a few moments it was quiet, at first I thought I had fallen asleep again until I jumped in my sleep sorta kicking the phone out of Jake’s hand.

“Hey what was that for?” He asked me as he picked up the phone again.

“Sorry, had a body spasm in my sleep sorta.” I said chuckling softly.

Jake shook his head at me until he spoke again.

“Hey Em.” Jake said a few seconds later. “Do you care for some company?” Jake asked. “Great, I’ll be there in a few. Is there a way your mom can make some breakfast for a few more friends?” Jake had asked him as my stomach had growled. Jake had shook his head with a smile when they had happened. “Oh who’s coming with me? Well I can’t tell you. It’s a secret.” Jake told him. “But you will like who’s coming with me though so see you in a jiffy.” Jake said then hung up.

He looked over at me as he hung up the phone. Patted my leg before getting up. Once he was up, he went back towards his room after placing the phone back on the table. After a few minutes later, he had came back dressed.

When he came over to me, he held his hand down to help me up. I whined a bit because I was comfortable on his odd couch. He chuckled some as he got me up on my feet then we were off.

About 15 to 20 minutes later, we finally got to Embry’s house. Jake knocked on the door and Tiffany had answered the door. When she had answered the door she had smiled at me and was getting ready to say hi to me when Jacob put a finger to his lips. She had smiled at us as she let us in.

We walked in and went into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Tiffany had called out her son and told him he had company. After a few moments, Embry had walked into the kitchen and when he saw me his face lit up like a little boy on Christmas morning.

“Kat!” Embry called out. “I had to know it was you that Jake was talking about.”

Both Jake and I laughed.

“Yea, I came to hang while Charlie went fishing with Billy and Henry.” I had said.

“So mom’s making breakfast for a good reason.” Embry said.

Tiffany had glared at him getting some chuckles out of Jacob and I.

“I cook for just you young man. Jacob just asked for something good to eat.” Tiffany said.

“Hey you will when he or any other of my friends but when I ask you say no unless you want to. But it’s okay, thank you.” Embry said with a smile.

I laughed again as he said that. Tiffany looked my way and pointed at me with the spoon she was using. I laughed again.

About 20 minutes later, breakfast was done and she made all of us plates. She had made sausage biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon and sausage. Along with OJ and coffee. Which I gladly took both drinks. I need some coffee to wake up. I was still tired even though I walked over here.

As I took a few bites, I was in heaven. I moaned each bite I had took getting laughs from everyone.

“I’m guessing it’s good huh?” Tiffany asked me.

“Yes, ma’am’s. God I haven’t had a good breakfast like this in a while.” I told her.

“Bella don’t cook like this?” Jake asked.

“Not for breakfast no.” I said as I heard a ding.

I looked around looking for that noise. Everyone was looking at me then I heard it again. Then I remembered Edward’s phone. I reached in my pocket and got it out.

“Who’s phone?” Jake asked.

“Edward’s. He loaned it to me until I get me one.” I had lied sorta.

When I looked at the phone, it was a few messages. One was from Bella and one from Alice.

The one Alice had sent said; “Edward call me asap”. And the one Bella had sent said; “Having fun?”

That had to be Edward because I don’t see Bella being up at 8am.

So I had texted back. “Yes, matter of fact I am, Edward. And Alice texted to call her asap.”

He had texted back. “How did you know it was me?”

“Because I know my sister. She’s not awake yet.” I sent.

“Good point, lol.” He sent.

I laughed at that as I took a drink of my coffee.

“Tell Alice I’m calling her on Bella’s phone and that you’re using my phone for today.” He sent.

I sent a thumbs up then texted Alice and told her what Edward had said to tell her. After I sent that I put the phone down and went back to eating until I couldn’t eat no more.

After awhile, I sat back in the chair while the boys were still eating. Tiffany and I looked at each other than the boys and laughed. I could it believed my eyes on how much these boys can eat.

About 20-30 minutes later, we were done and Tiffany had put the food away that was leftover and had cleaned up the kitchen while we went into the living room. Embry fell on the couch and me right next to him. Well more like laid down next to him putting my legs on his lap. Jake had set in the armrest and laid it back.

“Man that was so good. I think I’m good for a few days.” I had said.

“Right. I think I could’ve ate a little bit more but I didn’t want to get sick.” Embry said as someone had knocked on the door then it had opened.

After few seconds later, someone had walked into the living room. When I looked up it was Quil.

“Hey guys.” He had said.

“Hey.” We all had said back.

“Someone looks comfy.” He had said making all of us look at one another, getting a laugh out of him.

“After what we just ate, yeah we are.” Jake had said with a chuckle.”

“So I guess you were here when I went by your house.” Quil said to Jake.

“Yeah. What’s up?”

“Sam’s missing.” Quil said.

“What you mean he’s missing?” I asked sitting up.

“Well not what you think. He’s done this a few times. He leave home and goes wherever for a few weeks. Leah was telling me last night.”

“Did they get into it again?” Embry asked.

“I had asked her that. She said they were laughing and cutting up then he got pissed about something then she said the craziest thing was he yelled at her then started shaking. She said when she felt his arm he was burning up like he had a fever.”

“Hmm, maybe he’s sick and went and got help.” I had said.

“Maybe who knows.” Quil said.

We all nodded.

I had fixed myself on the couch where Embry moved over towards me so Quil could sit down. Jacob looked at me then Embry then back at me making me blush. He had smiled at me. After a little bit, Quil had spoke again.

“Oh I saw Paul on the way here. He looked pissed.”

“When isn’t he?” Jacob said.

“Exactly.” Embry agreed.

“True. But he looked more pissed off than normal. Jared was telling me last night that his dad came home and him and Paul got into it.”

“Oh lord.” The boys said.

Tiffany came into the living room and looked at me then her son then back at me just like Jacob had did.

“So, I heard you said Paul’s dad’s home?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“That no good man just needs to stay gone. At least do this tribe a favor. Paul is so much better off without him.” Tiffany said.

“Man is Paul’s dad that bad?” I had asked.

“Yes.” They all said.

“I’ve known Paul his whole life. After his mom giving birth to him, to a few months after he had turned what 13 years old, she left Paul’s dad and ran off with some guy. Paul’s dad blamed Paul for her doing that, but to be honest with yall, she had left his dad because he’s a drunk when he’s home. And when he leaves, he’s gone forever and don’t know when he comes back. He’s been gone for what 6 months this time boys?”

“Something like that.” Jacob had said.

“But Paul knows how to take care of himself. He’s 16 years old now.”

“Mom, he’s almost 18.” Embry corrected her.

“WOW is he really?” Tiffany asked shocked. “Man that boy flies.” Tiffany shook her head. “So what are you guys going to do? Just sit here all day?” She asked us.

“Technically yes for me.” I said with a chuckle. “I’m stuck here. I mean I can call my sister to come get me.” I said.

“Naw, let’s go to the park beach.” Embry said.

“Yeah.” Jacob agreed.

“Yeah, we can go see if Seth, Leah and Jared wants to come.” Quit said.

We all nodded and agreed on what we were gonna do. As we all got up and walked out the house, I made Jacob give me a piggy back ride on the way to where we were going. I did t want to walk, I was way too tired after all that food.

First we went to Jared’s. He was sitting on the porch with his girlfriend Kim and his mom. They were talking when we walked up. When we got there, Jacob helped me down to my feet. I groaned when he put me down, making all of us laugh at me.

After everyone got done laughing, Jared introduced me to Kim. And me and her had clicked. We had a lot in common and it was great.

We all talked about going to the beach park and Kim wanted to go and begged Jared to go. Jared said yes after a few begs along with some cuteness. I laughed making him blush.

As we all were walking there, I had ran and jumped Embry. Hooking myself around him, making him almost fall. We all laughed.

Once we got there, Embry put me on the seahorse ride as he sat on the crab. Kim and Jared got on the whale. And Jacob and Quil sat on the bench next to us.

I got to say, I’ve never had this much fun in a long time. I think since I was a kid.

About an hour or so, more kids had showed up. I even saw Paul walking our way. He looked at me for a moment then looked away. I thought I had done something wrong but thought again maybe he was in the same mood from this morning like Quil had said.

Paul stood by Jacob and Quil and talked for awhile. Hell he even talked to me for a moment then stopped when Embry came over towards me. Embry got behind me and started whispering in my ear as he started bouncing the seahorse a little getting some giggles out of me.

As he was making the seahorse move, I felt I had to pee and asked Embry where the bathroom was. He took my hand and helped me off the seahorse and took me to the store across the street where they had a bathroom.

After I was done, I came back out and he was waiting for me. He grabbed my hand and we walked back over to the group. Before fully reaching them, he stopped me and turned me around.

“Kat, can I tell you something?” Embry asked as he held my hands.

“Sure what is it?” I asked.

“You like me right?” He asked me.

“Sure I do.”

“I mean more than a friend right?”

“Yeah, in a way.” I said. “What’s the meaning of this Em?” I asked.

“Well I’ve been wanting to ask you for awhile and wanted to do something.”

“What’s that?” I asked.

“Umm, I kinda wanted to kiss you and ask you to be my girlfriend?” He said.

“Oh,” I said.

As I said that he leaned closer to me and kissed me on the lips. I smiled into the kiss and kissed him back. We were like that for a few moments until we heard the gang cheer us on. Expect for one person.

I started blushing as the gang was messing with us. We walked over hand and hand over to the gang and sat back down where we were. Paul, he didn’t look too happy. But I didn’t put nothing to it. Jacob and Quil were making kissy faces at Embry and me. Jared and Kim laughed. Kim had said she finally there’s another couple to hang out with and do things.

When Kim said that Paul had got up from where he was sitting and walked away from us. It didn’t bother me as much as it should but I didn’t know the guy. The guys even said don’t pay much attention to him, that he’s like that.
