16. Liar Liar Pants On Fire

1170 Words
The view was far from a blessing, rather, I'd call it a terrifying sight. My chest did around ten thousand push-ups in one second and my feet froze in place. I was hoping to see something wonderful, something that would grace my eyes and leave something memorable behind, but this...this was certainly not it. The startling face of a creature laid before me, terrifying me to no end with its appearance. I know this is the underworld and nothing looks nor acts like it does in the human world, but even so, is it normal to have six eyes gazing in six different directions and a mouth that seemed to allow air to escape like sharp splinters?! Nah...I don't think so. It was the same kind of four foot creature like the one I saw in the painting when I first arrived here. Except...it didn't look this intimidating. The stinging sensation left on my skin every time it breathed, reached a point where I could swear my lips were split in halves. I stumbled back, eyes glazed over with fear. My back collided with a warm body, and pointy peaks softly poked my back. I knew who those t**s belonged to without even looking, but that didn't stop me from running behind her, fingers tightly clutching her shoulders to keep her in place. Delari wasn't considered a woman in this situation, she was my shield from danger... nothing more, nothing less. "Sire, I thought you clearly said you had Womanorosis, yet you are currently having skin contact with Delari. How is it that you are not collapsing?" Gylador said from behind as his slow footsteps were heard descending the stairs along with Wardrock's. You know the saying that says lies always catch up with you? Well, this is it coming into play both at the wrong place and at the wrong time. I have nothing to say for myself, nothing at all. Differing from all the other unnecessary lies I've told in my life, this one was actually beneficial seeing as I didn't have to go to bed every night with blue balls. It's been very peaceful and I'd really like to keep it that way. But Wardrock had to mess things up with those eyes that takes every single detail into consideration and that mouth that never seems to stop sprewing! "I was wondering as well." Delari's soft voice uttered, her shoulders tensing from my touch. Removing my eyes from the beast that had thankfully started to trot off, I slipped my fingers off Delari's shoulders and slowly relieved myself from my crouching position as my head wracked with the question: 'What other lie should I tell to cover up another?' My brain currently had no answer to that. Delari spun around to look at me, though her eyes never held contact with mine for more than five seconds. Her small full lips puckered tightly in discontent and her forehead crinkled questioningly. I tore my gaze away from her and over to Sapheme when I heard her stifle a laugh. She was standing to the side as she kept one end of the door open. "Womano-what? I have heard of human souls that died from thousands of diseases but never have I heard that one before. I can't believe you actually thought he was telling the truth...He'd collapse from touching women? Brother, you are truly foolish." The four pair of eyes that then travelled back towards me and narrowed in on my form doubled my discomfort. I fiddled with my fingers and averted my eyes, glaring daggers at the floor. So what if I lied? No biggie. They're acting like its a crime. "Is there a reason as to why you lied? Did Delari do something wrong?" Gylador inquired in a serious tone, causing blood to rush to my cheeks. Sapheme rose a brow at my sudden fluster. I attempted to will my cheeks to stop its expected betrayal, but to no avail. It was in these times that I wish I could just melt to goo and sink beneath the ground where no one would be able to see nor find me. "No! I d-didn't--I didn't d-do a-anything." Delari shook her head so vigorously that I thought it would fly off her body. Her eyes were wide and her lips were wobbling slightly as her left foot swept backwards on the floor. I didn't need eyes to know that she was terrified. I knew she was a bit wary of me, but I assumed that was because she thought I'd be viscous and hot tempered like I may have been in the past. But she's not only scared of me, them too? I admit, they're kind of scary-looking at times but they're not that bad. They're kind....atleast to me they are. "I j-just..." Delari licked her lips, "h-he--" she paused, eyes changing directions every second, but I knew for sure that her gaze stayed a little too long on my lower half. Don't tell me she's about to say what I think she is?! "It's j-just that h-he gets ar...ar--" she swallowed, "a-arou-" I instantly glued my palm to her mouth, an awkward laugh leaving me. "Yeah! Isn't that what I've been telling you? I get around perfectly fine by myself." I finished for her, eyes pleading to her to shut the hell up. "That isn't something you should be saying, Delari. You were tasked with-" "I don't think we have time for this, the conference will start any minute now." Wardrock reminded as he slipped pass me and out the door, seeming uninterested in our little episode. Thankful for Wardrock's intervention, I took my hand off Delari's mouth and relocated it to her wrist, "Let's go." I called after Gylador and Sapheme as I began pulling Delari out the door, only releasing her when we were outside. A strong breeze instantly whipped me from behind. My hair wafted, flittering around in my vision for a few seconds before it stopped its movements and laid unmoving on my forehead as the wind carried on into the forest up ahead. The chirping of a passing bird, drew my eyes upwards. The bird wasn't very...birdlike, but it was a bird nonetheless. As it entered the forest, my eyes left it, and took in the view of the red sky. The sun was hidden behind abounding dark clouds, causing the sunlight to wane as noon came closer. The oncoming rain wasn't a good sign, yet I couldn't help but smile at the refreshing sight. I dropped my gaze when Wardrock started to whistle. I was about to ask what his deal was, but through the forest came five replicas of the same creature whom I thought had long disappeared, feet digging into the ground they ran. I made the move to rush back inside but to my dismay, when I turned around, the door had already been closed. Sapheme laughed. "That..." She pointed to the beasts behind me, "is our ride."
