Around an hour after I reached my final conclusion, I was sitting in the corner of the room, head secured in the palm of my hands as my thoughts took a new turn. Sapheme and Gylador had come by a few minutes ago, asking me to open the door so we could talk.
I did no such thing, but can you blame me? I'm simply a powerless human and they're big bad demons from the freaking pit of hell. I seriously don't think I can live amongst them without worrying for my safety every second of the day. And what's even worse, what if I don't do a good job at ruling and they decide I'm useless?
"It's nothing hard." I pathetically tried to encourage myself, "I just gotta act like I've been living here all my life and everything will be fine." Nodding in agreement with my words, I blew an unruly strand of my black hair out of my vision and picked myself up from the floor. I brushed my clothes and straightened my back in an attempt to prepare for all the s**t that I knew awaited me in the future.
I can do this! I'm pumped for this!
Sitting in one spot for far too long finally took its toll as my muscles started cramping the moment I stepped forward. Crap! Wincing a little, I carried on with my mission nonetheless and managed to carry myself over to the door with slouched shoulders and dragging feet.
Alright, this is it! Deep breaths, Kaiden...Deep breaths.
I twisted my torso from side to side and took deep breaths as the cramps started to wear off. Then, I quickly grasped the door handle and swiftly pulled it open, knowing that if I waited any longer, I would certainly end up changing my mind. Sapheme's smiling face greeted me and I immediately felt uneasy. She was facing me with her fingers entwined infront of her, her blue hair caught in a neat ponytail at the back. Was she waiting for me?
"Have you finally decided to begin fulfilling your duties?" She asked, eyes bearing unrestrained excitement...she seemed happy, but what for?
"I guess." I mumbled after a few seconds, averting my eyes to the floor.
She clasped her hands and broadened her smile into a grin as her eyes began to sparkle. "Let's get things started then. Please follow me, Sire. I'll show you around." Without further delay, she wheeled around and skipped down the hall. She was a woman, yet she had muscles far bigger than mine and I could tell that she was the childish type, a characteristic no one would think existed in the Underworld.
Reluctantly, I followed far behind, feet noisily shambling across the floor.
"Right next to yours, is my chambers." She stopped once she arrived at her door and opened it so I could see inside, but I didn't really get to see much, not that I wanted to. "It's pretty small compared to yours, but it's comfortable. If you ever need me and I'm not here, you can check my brother's room," she gestured to the room opposite hers. "Or you can check the game room, which you'll get to see later on. In a rare case where I'm not at either of those places, I guess you could--" she continued to ramble on and on about things I deemed unnecessary.
I wasn't listening to her, it wasn't entirely because of the fact that I wasn't interested...its just that my eyes happened to have caught sight of something that intrigued me. The wall was adorned with portraits of who I assumed were family members of theirs. They weren't riding horses or donkeys, they were riding a creature with more eyes than I could count. It was tall and large, probably triple the size of a full grown horse.
I moved closer, my inquisitive eyes studying every detail. I was in the underworld, it's natural to think that battles would only be fought against Angels and stuff, but that wasn't the case. From what I saw, it was demons against demons.
Sapheme who had stopped talking after probably realizing that I had strayed away from her, walked towards me and took a stand beside me. I did my best not to, but I found myself inching away from her despite my efforts.
Upon noticing my actions, she immediately stepped to the side and mumbled a quiet 'sorry'. I could tell she was offended, but she didn't give me enough time to feel guilty...She smiled brightly, her gaze climbing upwards to look at the portrait I was staring at. "That is Azra Flago; the demon who fought with you side by side in the Delyk War a millennia ago. He died bravely on the battlefield after taking down thousands of demons, it is only right that we honour his great contributions."
A millennia ago?
Didn't they say that Lucifer died three hundred years ago? If he fought in a war then, he's probably over one thousand years old!
She chuckled upon seeing my dumbfounded expression. "Lucifer was somewhere around five hundred thousand years old, if that is what you're wondering."
Holy cow! "You can't be serious, is that even possible!?"
"Yes it is... I believe you are twenty five, correct?"
I nodded absentmindedly.
Yeah, I figured he'd be old, but not that old! How can someone live up to five hundred thousand?
"If you're curious, this is what you looked like in the past."
I followed the direction of her finger, but the demon she was pointing at --who was supposedly Lucifer-- was very familiar. Rather than pieces of cloth, he was wearing a robe, his horns were hidden by the golden crown on his head and his face seemed to have more life...but I knew for sure that it was him.
...and I mean, the beast who showed up in my dream before I was summoned here...
