Amelia’s gaze was frozen with shock, her eyes locked in a stunned stare. Of all the companies who were dying to hire her, she chose that of her scum ex-husband. Impossible!
“Get me out of here!” Amelia beat her hands against the car door, her voice rising in pitch as she shook with anxiety.
The vehicle was already on the move so Amelia was much more determined to be free from the strange situation that she had found herself.
Her eyes narrowed towards the officer driving the vehicle. “Sir, I am talking to you. Get me out of here. I am no longer interested in signing the contract.”
Jacob interrupted immediately. “Amelia, it's okay, just keep calm for a moment, please. You are not helping matters by doing this.”
Amelia’s eyes narrowed with hate as she glared. “Did your presence in my life help matters? Tell your man to stop the vehicle. I am no longer interested.”
Jacob’s tone was well-measured. “Just hear me out, Amelia. Things may not be the way you think. Besides, we are already at the company.”
Jacob pointed at the company building and Amelia took a quick hateful glance at the perfect building structure.
“Just give me a moment when we get inside.”
“I am still not going to sign,” Amelia reaffirmed. “You better tell your security escorts not to waste both our time.”
Jacob was insistent so he signalled for his security escorts to lead Amelia into his annex hall where he would have a meeting with other board of directors and inaugurate Amelia into the team.
Jacob wouldn't give up so easily. After all, it was what he waited five years for.
Amelia was escorted into the company building and even though she was upset and determined to embarrass Jacob when it was time to sign the contract, she couldn't help but stare in awe at the impressive structure of Jacob’s company. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing. It was a proper corporate environment.
Amelia couldn't help but think that she had been sandwiched into the situation she found herself. It made no sense that of all companies that offered to hire her services, she chose that of her scum ex-husband. Except, of course, it was all pioneered by Selene, she reasoned.
She picked up the phone to call Selene, her words were a torrent of accusation. “Selene, did you know about this?”
Selene’s voice was shrill with confusion. “Know about what, Amelia? What are you talking about? How is the contract signing going?”
“Girl, don't pretend like you don't know what has happened. I told you already that over my dead body will I go back to him.”
Selene’s tone was a mixture of hurt and confusion. “Amelia, are you okay? I don't know what you are talking about. Who aren’t you going to go back to?”
“So, you are giving me your word that you didn't intentionally convince me to sign for Rodele Couture because you knew Jacob was the CEO.”
“What?!” Selene’s voice was tinged with anticipation. “You mean the same Jacob, your ex?”
At that moment, Amelia’s suspicion was doused as she started retreating from interrogating. “Yes! I still don't understand how of all the offers, I chose him. I hope you didn't convince me because you knew all along.”
“I swear I didn't,” Selene responded.
Even though Selene was trying so badly to hide her excitement, she had always wanted Amelia and Jacob to return together. She had always teased Amelia about getting back together with him.
“You know, perhaps you shouldn't be so stiff-necked about it. Besides, Rodele Couture is probably the best of all the companies that sent offers,” Selene’s words were a gentle whisper as she cajoled her friend.
“It's just because of you that I will sign this contract. I would have so embarrassed Jacob and I already had ideas on how I would do that. As long as he doesn't come near me and he keeps things professional, then there won't be a problem,” Amelia expressed her mind abruptly and then hung up.
Amelia’s face brightened after the call. She was escorted in a regal manner, her gown shimmering in the lights as cameramen took several snapshots of the moment she walked so elegantly.
The guests and delegates were all together at the hall where Amelia signed the contract with Rodele Couture amidst applause from every guest present.
Jacob couldn't help but repeatedly stare in awe at Amelia during the whole contract signing process. His heart raced with each glance that he stole of Amelia, and his chest tightened in a mixture of joy and pain.
How could he lose such a woman? Who bewitched him to let go of such a gorgeous woman? His heart burned with regret as he asked himself questions.
All the guests left but Jacob had his hidden agenda in his mind. His eyes were like a hawk as he baited everyone else to leave the hall while also giving his men secret instructions to delay Amelia for as long as possible so that he would be alone with her in the hall.
Amelia soon noticed that she was about to be alone with Jacob. She couldn't afford to be in such an awkward situation so she darted towards the door.
Jacob, being alert, had his muscles coiled as he blocked Amelia’s path before closing the door, preventing Amelia from slipping away.
“I love you so much, Amelia, can’t you see that?” he asked, and he couldn’t help the scoff that escaped his mouth.
“Love?” Amelia asked, her expression stern as she looked at him with nothing but resentment towards him for everything he did to her. “People like you should be banned from talking about love. You know nothing about love, Jacob. All you know how to do is to ignore people and push them away!” She snapped, her voice breaking.
“Please, Amelia,” he closed the distance between them and Amelia glared at him. Before she could say anything else, Jacob hugged her, and her eyes widened. She tried to pull away, but he wrapped his hands around her. “Please be mine again.”
