Calliope “Are you okay?” I stood by the door of Echo’s room and she became startled the moment she heard my voice. A small smile grazed my lips as I walked into her room. We arrived here about an hour ago after Knox agreed to help me. “Yes. I'm glad that I’ve gotten a comfortable place to sleep in. And finally, I'm going to get a warm bath and my wounds will take time to heal. It doesn't matter if those guards keep staring weirdly at me princess, I'm okay.” Echo still had scars on her body. She explained that she had some of her back and I had seen the one on her feet. It was gruesome and throughout the journey, I kept worrying for her. She kept assuring me that she was fine. She was an omega and healed slowly. “I have told you to stop calling me princess. This is not ShadowCrest and we should lay low here while we try to figure things out. And ignore the guards.” I told her as they also stared weirdly at me. It was bound to happen. “So the Alpha is your friend?” Echo asked instead and her eyes met with mine. Her red-hair hair cascaded down her back and her black eyes held so much curiosity as I slowly nodded my head before answering. “Was.” I couldn't call Knox my friend now. I knew that he just agreed to help me and it was not even because of the friendship we once had, it was due to his reasons and I was curious which. “But he allowed us to stay here in his palace. How did you even make friends with him, he's the Alpha of Darkwood pack and you are from ShadowCrest, how did you become friends.” “Knox once lived in Shadowcrest,” I uttered softly, coming to sit at the edge of the bed. He was quiet and mysterious and the both of us were quick to make friends. I met Knox when I was ten and he was 14. We were friends for 8 years. Very close friends. Knox was so quiet that I was the only one that he spoke to. He did not have any friends except for me. He did not have parents either and was an orphan who lived with his grandparents. Then how did he become Alpha of Darkwood pack? “What??? How??” Echo shrieked in surprise. “I also don't know how. You see, it's complicated Echo. I had no idea how he was able to hide his identity, but Knox was this quiet kid and we clicked well together. We stopped being friends as he left and became the Alpha here, but I'm glad that we were once friends, what would have been my fate?” She slowly nodded her head, agreeing with me. The people here were definitely not going to be nice to us. But I didn't care, I had something more important to deal with. “By the way, how do you know Ragnar killed my father and brothers? Did you get it from a reliable source?” I couldn't help but ask. That question has been bothering me. “And how did mom die?” I asked yet again in a shaky voice. “Princess, my father was one of the warriors that fought beside your father and before he died, he told me that ShadowCrest was getting victory against Mireborn. Your father was a great warrior and he was winning. One of your brothers got injured and your father asked Ragnar and my father to take them to safety, a resting place. Only one of your brothers stayed back, two went with your father. Papa said he watched Ragnar drive his swords into their hearts. He ran away out of fear and Ragnar went ahead to lie that the tent was Intruded by some MireBorn soldiers and you already know of the rest.” He took the victory for having the upper hand against the other pack. Brought the bodies back and fed us with lies, saying my last brother died in the war ground and his body was mauled. He did that also. He killed them and now, Karma was coming for him, because MireBorn pack was dominating. “Your mother fell sick and died. She was poisoned. She died thinking you killed her.” What? I frowned and I looked at Echo in confusion. “There was a pie that was always sent to her. They said it was made by you and she always ate it with so much relish. As she thought that was your way of showing that you still cared and that you were too busy to come or even send letters. She had no idea that it was poisoned. I'm sorry princess.” Echo's voice was low and I slowly shook my head, trying so hard to not break down. I was going to break down. I had lost everything and it was all because of my foolishness. I was too relaxed and Ragnar just had his way. “Have some rest, Echo. Food will be brought to you, for now, I want to be alone.” I told her and she only modded, watching as I walked out of the room. “I'm not going to cry. Don't cry, Calliope. Tears only show weakness.” I kept repeating to myself like it was a mantra as I walked back to my room. I wanted to cry and my eyes were filled with unshed tears. “Don't cry. Keep going, you've got this.” I repeated, ignoring whoever I walked passed. I've got this. I just needed to be strong, but the tears, no matter how I tried, they kept gathering in my eyes. As I walked into my room, I closed the door with a bang before resting my back against the wall. I was in pain, my heart was aching with an untold pain and it felt like someone was clawing my heart out. I was hurting so much and I just wanted it to stop. Resting against the wall, I sat weakly on my butt, breaking down into tears the second, I just couldn't hold it in.
