"You smile so much but you cry every night, I might be too young to understand but I hope you can stop crying now. I and Joel hate it whenever you cry"
I stared at my not-so-young five-year-olds. They both returned the act and gazed at me with puppy dog eyes. A tear slowly streamed down my eyes causing Jamie to cry out, "Talk of the devil!"
"Mummy has heard you both and I'll do nothing but your will. Instead of the playground, I have a better place for my cute babies"
I watched as their eyes lit up with excitement. They both left me on the couch and descended on their wardrobes in a bid to find something to wear.
10 minutes later.....
"Aunt Mirabel?"
A smile popped up on my face as they asked the question in unison. Mirabel was more than family to me, and bringing the twins to her preschool only showed how grateful I felt towards her.
"Aunt Mirabel would be so excited to see you both"
I rubbed their hair as their eyes lit up with excitement. We slowly got into the compound and stood at the entrance, admiring the building and the beautiful slides that stood at different corners.
"There are many kids here mum, I love this place"
Jamie was the first to say something. It was only normal for him to make a statement like that, Aunt Mirabel's school, the Cave, had basic playground instruments for children.
"Joel sweetie" I called out to my other son, hoping he'd say something about the place before we proceeded.
"Mum, she's gonna fall"
"Who?" I asked while darting my eyes from place to place.
"The kid on the balcony of the second floor"
Joel spoke up and created a sense of panic within me. Letting go of their hands, I ran towards the building, hoping to catch the girl who was already screaming her lungs out due to fear.
The kids at the play area all stood at a spot and stared at the falling girl. An adrenaline rush engulfed me, making me run twice as fast as before.
I got to the exact position she was going to fall to, a tiled surface. Once more, I subconsciously leaped and was able to catch the little girl who already turned red from crying.
I leaped once more and landed on the playground without a scratch on the little girl.
"Star? Star please wake up!"
The voice of a middle-aged woman rang in our ears as she ran through the crowd and came to the front with so many tears in her eyes.
"Ma'am, your daughter is fine, she's the star you call her. She's not hurt in any way, she only passed out due to fear"
I consoled the woman and patted her on the back before walking out of the scene.
"Thank you, Bonita, you saved my girl. I'm grateful"
Finding it difficult to say more, I only nodded and walked through a pile of children who stared at me with puppy dog eyes.
"You're so cool, Aunt Bonita"
"Thank you for saving my best friend, Star"
I felt a heart-wrenching pain within me as the little boy held my legs and placed his head on my thighs, in a bid to hug me.
"You're welcome sweetheart, your Star would be fine"
I crouched down and embraced him properly before placing kisses on his head.
I searched around and found my son seated in a corner, watching the whole scene.
The expressions on their faces were quite disturbing, I guess they must have been terrified.
As I got closer to them, my mindset changed immediately. Jamie who looked sober earlier, suddenly started jumping around after seeing me approaching them.
"My mum is my hero, you saved the girl, you saved the world!"
I gushed at how handsome he looked when he smiled. This was an extroverted version of his Dad.
"Jamie sweetie"
I called out and ended up crouching down to carry my son who ran faster than a cheetah all in a bid to hug me.
"You're so great, Mum"
Jamie exclaimed once more and placed kisses on my face, I couldn't be luckier.
I diverted my gaze to the latter who looked like he was solving an extremely hard calculus.
"Joel, are you here with us?"
"Yes, mum. I have a lot on my mind"
I had no idea how I should react, my five-year-old suddenly had a lot on his mind and I was just at a spot, wondering what could be bothering my old man.
"What could be bothering you sweet? Family? Relationships or finance?"
I knew I shouldn't be doing this but Joel was driving me crazy with his aged attitude.
In a jiffy, I heard the most unrealistic reply from my boy.
"They're part of my problems but not my main problem, Mum"
At this point, I knew I had to stop or I might just be the next patient in the pack's clinic. Joel was not an ordinary kid, I knew and felt it within me.
"Sweetie, she was still standing before you said what you said, and then the fall began. How did you know that she was going to fall?"
I threw the question at him with so much curiosity within me.
"Mum, I saw it. I just knew that she was going to fall"
My fears and hopes were slowly materializing in front of me but I was not in a hurry to conclude.
"We didn't see it, how come you were the only one who saw it?"
"That's because I can see what you all find difficult to see"
Jamie scoffed and blurted out, "There he goes spewing stuff"
"What else can you see my love?"
I had this disturbance within me that all was not right with Joel. I needed to know the things he could do and if he had supernatural powers.
His next reply threw me into chaos, sending cold chills down my spine.
"I can see the one who is after your life"
