Alpha Phoenix
Alpha Ronan and his Luna had arrived. They were followed closely by five of their best warriors. I went downstairs to greet them. Alpha Ronan was a tall and slender man and his Luna, Corrine was also tall and very much with child. Made me wonder why she made the trip here! I didn’t need a Luna from another pack having her pup here on top of everything else, but we would be accommodating none the less if that happened. I greeted Alpha Ronan with a firm handshake and a small bow to his Luna. We made our way into the dining area for lunch before the meeting began. Fenrik and my parents were already waiting at the table. Lunch consisted of an assortment of meats, vegetables, and desserts. It all looked delicious as we were being served. I was actually hungry as I didn’t have much for breakfast. We chit chatted about their trip down here from the northern region and about their newest addition. When finished, Fenrik, Alpha Ronan, Luna Corrine, and I headed to my office.
“Thank you for coming.”, I said to Alpha Ronan. I didn’t want to be rude and not thank him for the long trip they had made. Fenrik pulled a chair out for Luna Corrine while Alpha Ronan took a seat beside her. “Alpha Ronan, I hope that you find your accommodations to your liking.”, said Fenrik before taking his seat next to me at the meeting table. “I’m sure they will be fine, Beta Fenrik.”, Alpha Ronan said with a content tone. How was he so calm and collected? I’m far from being that way most days, especially today. Nervously I started shuffling through the notes that Fenrik helped me to prepare the evening before. I mind-linked Fenrik as he noticed my anxiousness. “I don’t know if I can do this.”, I said. He just gave me an approving nod so I began,
“As you know we have had several rogues coming onto our territories for quite some time now. With your help, I would like to increase patrols of the border between the Southern and Northern regions. I lost my brother in an attack and I would like to make sure he is the last that we lose.”
Alpha Ronan looked off into the distance before he spoke. “Your brother was a mighty warrior and I am very sorry for the loss that you’ve endured. I will have my men do extra patrols at night, if you can arrange for more patrols during the day. With that said, I will also have a couple of the warriors I brought with me stay behind to help with training.”, he said with a sad smile. I thanked both the Luna and Alpha for such a generous offer and Fenrik led them to their room. The meeting was shorter than I had thought it would be.
Fenrik returned and said, “Well, that was much easier than I thought it was going to be. Perhaps they are taking pity on us.” My wolf heard the word pity and he became furious. I growled and threw the papers I had in hand across the room. “I don’t want their pity. I don’t want to be thought of as some Alpha who can’t keep his pack in line!”, I said in my Alpha voice. Fenrik looked stunned. He took a few steps back and said, “I’m sorry Alpha. I didn’t mean to..” I didn’t let him finish. I stormed out of the office and down the hall to my bedroom. Flopping down on my bed I buried my face in the pillows. Today was a tough day and I was just ready for it to be over with. Tomorrow would be a new day and hopefully a better one at that.
