I whimpered, my body stiff and unyielding as the male in front of me edged closer. He smelled good! Like vanilla and pine cones. I wanted to roll around in the scent and expose my belly so he could rub it; but I was afraid. He also had a faint smell about him that made me lift the side of my lips in a snarl, warning him away from me

“Fina” He whispered my name

I stopped snarling and tilted my head, confused. How did he know me? I know I’ve never met him before. When he edged closer, I snapped my jaw at him, making him freeze; one of his arms still stretched out to me.

“Easy girl” He said

Who was he? Why did he smell so good, yet also like something and someone I wanted to run away from.

When his full body was inside my place of safety, he slowly moved closer and I scuttled back, growling at him as he looked at me, still trying to reach out and touch me. The hand closest to me smelled of the bullet that hit me when those men chased me and I let out a loud growls, my teeth exposed to let him know that I will lunge forward and bite him - fatally if need be.

He froze, completely still as he looked at me with his big grey eyes. He moved slow, lowering his hand until it was on the same level as his nose and winced

“s**t” He whispered “Fina, I know what you smell and I swear to you…it wasn’t me who shot at you”

I growled low in my throat, letting him know he I was wary of him. He lowered his hand fully and looked at me calmly. I was torn. I don’t know who he is, I feel weird and excited but I know what I smell and while the majority of him smells like a dream; there is that scent that makes me wary and angry.

“Fina” He said gently “My name is Ray. Will you let me speak to your human?”

My what? My head exploded then, suddenly little pockets of pain burst around my brain and I yelped out, my eyes closing as so many different things started registering

“Ray! Are you ok?” I heard another male call out

“I’m ok, stay there. s**t; Fina!” Ray shouted

I stayed down, my head on my paws as information suddenly came back to me. I was a shifter! Yes! Of course I was. I had a human inside of me…or was I the one who was inside my human?I remembered the mother who helped me but I couldn’t remember how to be a human. I just remembered I was. Sad whimpers sounded out every few seconds as I tried to recall my past but I couldn’t. All I could feel was pain and I closed my eyes to block out the irritating sunlight

“Fina” Ray whispered “Let me help you”

I couldn’t even move because the pain behind my eyes was so intense. I almost started to feel dizzy when the pain started easing up. I held my breath, waiting so see if it would come back again and I started to relax when the pain started to go. I felt the knots in my body relax and ease and that’s when I realised that the human had come closer to me.

Not just close! His hand was brushing against my fur, stroking those fingers from the top of my head, to the back of my ears and down to the back of my neck. I whined, enjoying the feel of his touch and leaned into it, my head falling back onto my paws as the pain gradually ebbed. Ray kept whispering soft words and my ears picked them up, wanting to move closer just to hear his voice and feel it vibrate against me

“I’m here. It’s ok Fina” He whispered “That’s a good girl. Let me help you”

Over and over, he stroked my head until the pain went away and I huffed out a breath in relief. I opened one eye and looked at him, a small growl leaving the side of my lip; knowing full well that the warning was for show only

“Oh really?” Ray chuckled

“Ray. It’s been almost fifteen minutes and if you don’t get your ass outta there, I’m coming in” Someone shouted

I lifted my head to growl except Ray turned his head, his hand still running along the back of my neck

“NO!” Ray shouted “Simon, you guys stay there….better yet, go back. I can’t leave right now”

“What the hell man” A different voice said “What’s going on?”

“I’m ok but Fina is not. I can’t just leave her and she isn't comfortable with me yet” Ray said

“Who the hell is Fina?” Scott shouted back

“Ray, you’ve not long woken up. Maybe-” The Simon guy was cut off when Ray growled

“Don’t! I’m not acting crazy. I’ll explain but I can’t just now” Ray spoke in anger

I shivered. His voice was gruff and full of authority and while I usually don’t like this kind of aggression in a male; he makes me feel safe. His voice alone make me want to jump up and lick his face

“Fina” Ray said, now looking at me “I need to let them know I’m ok but I don’t want to leave you. Come with me”

What? I move away from his hand and when he goes to touch me again, I nip at his fingers, warning him away. I don’t know who he is or how he knows my name but he needs to move away from me.

“s**t” Ray said, his hands moving back “Fina, sweetheart - I’m not going to hurt you. If I had wanted to do that, don’t you think I would have done it by now?”

I let out a small growl. Arrogant much? Males! There all the same

When he tried to move, I finally started to stand up a little and let out a chilling growl, my eyes flashing at him. I pawed the ground, letting him know I wasn’t happy. Ray backed away slowly until his back was brushing against the way he came.

“Fina” He whispered again

But this time, I didn’t let him speak and growled louder; baring my teeth at him. I saw him look me over, his eyes changing colours and something in him changed. He was still human but this time I smelled a wolf. A very tasty, mouth-watering smell of an alpha male that exuberant power and confidence. I was both turned on and scared.

When he let out his own growl. I stopped growling at him; my body tense still but a little less aggressive. I tilted my head again and whined. I wanted that wolf but I couldn’t see him, I could only smell him. I’m so confused. What was going on? Why did I want to rub all over him and crave his touch so badly

“s**t” Ray said “You don’t know what’s going on, do you?”

I snarled a little, feeling insulted that he thought I was stupid. Just because he had balls and a c**k didn’t mean he got to talk to me like that. I snipped at him even though he was further away and watched as he seemed to go quiet and have a far off look in his eyes. When he blinked, he lowered his body

“Fina” Ray said gently “I am an Alpha. A shifter wolf like you. You have a human side to you - just like I am looking right now. But I have a wolf in me too who looks something like you too”

I tilted my head. Was he crazy? I mean, some part of me really wants to believe him but a part of me feels like he is talking crazy

“I can show you, but I need you to come out so I can shift” Ray encouraged

I growl again, not happy at his attempt to hurt me. He must think I am easily fooled to believe him. I heard the other voices. They were looking to grab me, just like those who chased and shot at me.

“Please Fina” Ray looked at me “Please sweetheart, trust me. I would never hurt you. You don’t know how long I have waited for you”

I whined when his tone changed. It sounded so sad, so alone. Why was he waiting for me? How does he know me? I have all these swirling emotions in me and I just can’t think. When he held his hand out to me, his eyes sad; I couldn’t help myself. I slowly crawled to him and inch by inch, let his hand touch me again. I didn’t realise he was holding his breath because as soon as his hand touched my muzzle, he sighed and a large puff of breathe left his body as if he was waiting for my approval. When he began scratching behind my ear I swear I wanted to thump my tail in happiness.

“Will you come out with me, Fina? Please?” Ray asked me

I looked towards the bush behind him and whined, letting him know of my fear. Ray smiled and his eyes softened even more.

“I swear I won’t let anyone or thing hurt you Fina” Ray started to encourage me again “Please, just this one time, trust me”

I looked at Ray and when I couldn’t make up my mind, from somewhere deep inside, I heard a voice

Trust him

Who said that!?! I moved my head to the left and right and snarled a little, my heart pounding at the voice. I saw Ray look around too, in alarm

“What? What’s wrong?” He asked me

I yelped, trying to find the female voice that spoke but saw no-one. Was I actually going crazy?

“Ray? You ok?” Simon asked

“Something’s got her spooked. She was fine but all of a sudden her back is up. Guy’s, this may take time. Are you sure you don’t wanna head back or at least to the shops?” Ray asked

“We’re not going anywhere” Simon said

“I can stay” A different voice said

“You can f**k off” Ray growled

I let out a little yelp, noticing how he growled those words out. He sure was angry at whoever just spoke. I inched closer again. Whoever said I should trust him still had me scared but I also felt he wasn’t dangerous, never mind the delicious smell coming off him.

“Will you come out with me, Fina?” Ray asked me again

I thought about what mother said. Did she mean him? To trust him? And that voice…it was different from mother’s so someone else said to trust him too. Maybe I should. I slowly nodded and he smiled so brightly, my heart felt like it could burst

“Give us room, we are coming out” Ray shouted “It’s going to be ok Fina”

Ray moved his body, pushing past all the branches and going back out the way he came. I saw him move some of the branches out as he looked back at me and smiled

“You can do this, Fina” Ray said

I got up slowly, walking to the bush.

Trust him The voice whispered. I knew that was mother’s voice. So gentle and loving, a warm caress against my fur.

Please Trust him. I don’t know who said it and once again, I looked around to see if I could find her but she wasn’t there.

When Ray held his hand out to me, I pushed through the branches, the twigs and leaves scratching against my fur. I wiggled my body, my hind legs pushing against some of the stronger branches and helping me push out. Slowly, I started edging out of the bush as Ray helped push as much of the leaves and branches away from me, making my escape easier.

Finally, with a big push and a yelp, I got through the tight opening and ungraciously fell to the forest floor, my legs all splayed out as Ray let go of the bush. He stepped back and bent down; his eyes warm and his smile bright. I felt giddy and silly. I wanted to lick his chin and have him rub my body just because his smile made me feel like I had accomplished something big. I got up slowly until I stood tall and proud, looking at him properly as now I was just over his head

“Holy s**t” A voice said

I looked at the three people standing there. The one who spoke, had his mouth open before he closed it and smiled. The other two were still as statues. I coward a little, growling at them, my tail tucked between my legs.

“Hey Fina” Ray said “It’s ok sweetheart. He means no harm. That’s Scott. And the man next to him is Simon who is another alpha”

When Ray didn’t continue, I realised he had left off introducing the other silent man standing at the side who was looking at us tensely.

“Ray” Simon spoke

But he ignored him. Ray stood up and backed away, all the while looking at me. I tilted my head when I saw him taking off his shoes and when his hand went to the jeans and he unbuttoned them, I barked. What the hell was he doing?

“I’m going to shift Fina. I’m going to show you my wolf. But to do that, I need to get out of these clothes. I don’t have extra clothes

with me and they will tear if I do the change with them” Ray laughed

I just looked at him. This human really did think he had a wolf in him. I was about to bark at him to tell him he didn’t need to go to such lengths to make me trust him when I was already out of the hiding place and with him; when his jeans dropped and he whipped his shirt over his head.

I stopped thinking. Why was I finding this human so attractive? Why was my mouth salivating at the way he looked and wanted to use my tongue on him? I heard the other three men move to turn their back on us, their voices sounded like they were under water because

I couldn’t hear anything, see anything but this human.

Then he did something incredible. Where once Ray stood, now a large male wolf stood. A very large male wolf and I could tell that even at my full height, I would only just reach under his chin. He was huge. Like really, really huge! And not only in height but his body was nothing but muscle and fur. There wasn’t any fat or even excess anything….well except his c**k! Oh my goddess! That monster was…..a monster!

“f**k sake Ray” Scott said “I didn’t need to see that”

Ray howled long and loud then crouched down a little, his tongue rolling out from the side of his mouth. I yelped and cautiously walked over to him. He stood to his full height and just as I predicted, I just about reached his chin. Ray looked at me and I was startled because the eyes looking back at me were not Ray. Someone else was watching me. I took a step back and Ray’s chest rumbled, making me stop as I took in his meaning. He was still here and I was safe

“His name is Tark” Scott said

I looked at the human, tilting my head as I tried to understand him

“Ray. That is his wolf. His wolf’s name is Tark. He is that big because he is an alpha male. Erm, you know what that is, right?” Scott asked me

I bared my teeth at him, offended at what he thought I was. Scott chuckled and apologised.

“You can’t speak to him because you are not his pack…yet. But Tark wants you to know that you are safe. He won’t let anyone hurt you” Scott said “None of us want to hurt you”

I looked at Tark and walked a little closer, his deep scent filling my nose and making my mouth water. I may not fully understand what was happening but I did understand one thing. I wanted to present myself for mounting and have him take me over and over until he planted pups inside of me. I saw him stiffen and look at me with lust in his eyes as his c**k lengthened in front of me. I whined, making my intention clear when the other man spoke

“Fina, is that your name?” Simon asked “I think it’s best you both shift back and talk. There’s obviously something going on here and

you’re his mate, yet we know his mate died in the van. So you both need to talk…So maybe you two can hold off on the celebrations for now? right Ray?”

Ray growled, his displeasure at the interruption was clear; but I tilted my head once again. What did he mean by the word mate? Shift what? I looked between him and Ray as Ray stood and watched me quietly. I let out a small yelp at Simon, unsure of what they all seemed to know

“s**t” The third man said “I don’t think she understands what you mean”

“Of course she does” Scott scoffed “She’s obviously his mate”

“I don’t think she actually does Scott” Simon said “Fina, do you understand what a mate is?”

Again my head tilted and this time Tark growled really loudly. I looked at him from the side of my eyes and I could see his impatience, his c**k now hidden back.

“Do you know what a shifter is?” Simon asked me, bending down on his hunches

“s**t” Scott whispered

“Damn” The third man said “How does she not know?”

“I don’t know” Simon said in a low voice “Ray, you may want to change back”

I watched as Ray shimmered and became a man again and I watched as he grabbed his clothes and went behind a tree. I sat back and watched this group of men, my fear a lot less as I realised they meant me no harm. I heard rustling and then Ray stepped out. Ray…Tark. Two different names for two different beings.

“Fina” Ray said, walking close to me “Can you shift back?”

And again, the tilt of the head. At this point, my neck is going to start staying that way. When I whined, Ray started to caress my head again and kept his voice low

“Ok sweetheart. If your answer is no to anything, can you lift this paw?” Ray asked, touching my left paw. “And if yes, you’re right one?”

I barked out and then lifted my right paw to show him. Ray nodded and kept his hand on me as he caressed my ears and neck

“Do you know what a mate is?” Ray asked me

I lifted my left paw

“s**t” The third man said

“Do you know what a shifter is?” Ray asked me

I hesitated and then slowly, lifted my third paw again

“The f**k?” Scott whispered

“Do you smell anything…about me?” Ray asked with a sad smile

Finally! Something I could say yes too. I yipped and lifted my right paw and immediately, Ray’s face brightened

“Thank goddess” Ray said with a sigh “Is it a good smell?”

My right paw went up and Ray stroked my harder

“Do you like the smell?” Ray asked me

I yipped louder and my tongue came out from the side. When Ray moved closer, my eyes became sombre and he paused

“May I hug you?” Ray asked “Do you know what a hug is?”

I rolled my eyes at him and lifted my right paw. He sighed again, obviously in relief. His arms came around me and suddenly I was surrounded by his scent which makes my mouth water. I don’t know why but I really want to bite him….hard. It frightens me so I shuffle a little and Ray let’s me go

“Thank you” Ray whispers

“What now?” Simon asks

“It’s clear Fina doesn’t know what a shifter is and she doesn’t know about mates” Ray said sadly “But, I think she’s the one from the van. She’s the mate I smelled”

“Are you serious?” Scott asked

“How can you be sure?” Simon asked me

“Something just tells me she is” Ray said

“You mean the kids told you” Simon said with a nod “What did they say Ray?”

Ray hesitated, glancing at them all and then me. He stood up and touched my ears, his fingers creating pleasurable havoc within me.

“They showed me Fina” Ray said “Well Aria actually did, but Kai told me my mate was never a male”

“How did she get out of the van? None of us saw her move” The third man said

When Ray ignored him, Simon looked between them and approached Ray.

“Ray, he did what he had to in order to protect his Alpha” Simon told him

“He f*****g betrayed me! Had Fina actually been in that van, I would have been mateless right now so don’t try to justify his behaviour because you sure as s**t wouldn’t have been understanding had that been Soph!” Ray said in a loud voice

I growled. Ray was upset and for some reason if feels like this third man is the reason and I have a feeling its to do with me and a mate, whatever that is. When I bare my teeth at the third man, he drops his eyes and sighs

“I will step down if that is what you want” He said without looking at us

Silence

“Ok then” the third man said, nodding his head

“Wait Tim” Simon said

Ah, ok, so his name is Tim. Ray clears his throat, looking at me and then looks at the sky

“Think about this Ray” Simon said “It wasn’t an easy choice for him. His sole purpose was to keep his Alpha safe, which he did. You

know shifters don’t have any idea what is at stake when it comes to mates until they find their own”

“Then what was yours and Scott’s f*****g excuse?” Ray shouted

“The fact that I would be answering to your brother” Simon growled back

“Me too” Scott said “He couldn’t have dealt with losing you too man”

Silence once again. I saw Ray breathe deep, his eyes flashing and changing a few times before he calmed down. He blew out a breath

“Would you do it again?” Ray asked, then looked at Tim “knowing what you know now?”

Tim looked at him quietly, then nodded

“Yes. I would still protect you” Tim said

Ray growled, taking one step forward

“But after saving your ass, I’d be the one to go save her so Jason doesn’t lose the only remaining family he has and our pack aren’t shattered from losing their Alpha brothers” Tim said gruffly

“Asshole” Ray said gruffly, blinking his eyes rapidly

“s**t” Scott said “What the hell was that, Tim?”

“The truth” Tim said in a low voice “I don’t have any family left after…well…I couldn’t see another brother lose the will to live after losing another loved one”

Simon cleared his throat and Ray nodded. Were the men bonding? I didn’t get what they were talking about but there was the smell of tears and heartache in the sky and the men all looked like they wanted to hug but their masculinity didn’t let them.

“So” Simon cleared his throat again “What now?”

“Will you come with us, Fina? Will you let me protect you?” Ray asked me

I hesitated, my paws moving about as I thought about the question. Ray saw my indecisiveness and when Tim and Scott tried to take a step forward, my back went up immediately and I growled.

“Fina” Ray said “Please sweetheart, come with me”

“He needs you, Luna” Tim said gruffly “You’re his very life. Let us protect you. I swear I will lay my life down for you and we will figure everything out”

When I shook my head in confusion, They started talking among themselves, their worry for me and Ray apparent. I was so unsure and scared, wishing I could trust better but these emotions inside wouldn’t let me. How do I know I could trust him? Ray looked so upset and I wanted to comfort him as he had done for me but I didn’t know how. Suddenly, Ray stiffened and his eyes glazed over. Simon, Tim and Scott kept calling his name; even I howled a couple of times but he didn’t respond for a long time and just when I thought about biting him to get him to come out of whatever state he was in, he blinked; my teeth hovering over his fingers

“What the hell Ray?” Simon shouted

“Fina” Ray said, his voice sure and steady “You can trust me”

“That’s clearly not working” Simon said in frustration

Ignoring him, Ray turned to me and smiled brilliantly

“Because I was doing it all wrong” Ray said

“What?” Scott asked

“Fina, come with me” Ray smiled “You know you can trust me and do you know why?”

I tiled my head again but this time, I let out a small snarl, annoyed that he kept pushing me and making me feel uncomfortable

“Because It’s me” Ray smiled “Because I will protect you with every breath in my body and would die before letting anything happen to you”

I stopped snarling, my heart now galloping and I whimpered a little, wanting him yet too afraid to make the first move

“And because you are my blue star Fina” Ray smiled wildly

I froze. Those words. Blue star! Like mother said! She told me he would come and he was for me. She meant Ray? I walked closer to Ray and he bent down until he could look me in the eyes.

“You are my blue star Fina” Ray whispered

I whined, tears gathering in my eyes at the feeling of being safe finally makes me shudder and I let out a happy yelp, nuzzling my nose into his caressing hands. He leaned in, his face close to my ears and tells me the last piece of the puzzle only he could know

“Aria and Kai told me and helped me find you, Fina. I know you don’t know who they are and it’s hard for you to trust strangers, but they are the most amazing two kids on this earth and they told me where to find my shining blue star that would complete my life.

That’s how I found you Fina, that’s how I knew who you were” Ray whispered to me.

Without hesitation, I launched myself into his arms, his body tumbling over as his arms came around my body, holding me close. It’s him! The one mother said to trust! The one who would protect me. I heard Ray laugh and felt the vibration go through me as I lay atop him, finally able to feel secure with someone else beside mother
