I ran my hand over Fina’s coat as she sat with her head on my lap, her eyes watching me and I honestly couldn’t be happier. I wanted to shout from the rooftop about finally finding my mate; I wanted to pump my fits in the air and run screaming until I ran out of breath.

I finally found my mate and she is amazing.

I may not know what her human self looks like but I know she will be amazing. There’s an innate goodness coming from her and I know no matter what, I will love her. She’s mine. I remember when I met Tasha for the first time, something smelled off about her.

Even when she smiled at me and thought it was Jason, there was this fakeness about her. Even her eyes spoke of betrayal and deception.

Fina on the other hand, her eyes were clear, bright and full of honesty. Her very being spoke of honesty. Yes she was fearful and wary. Goddess knows what she has been through; but even after all that, she doesn’t smell of deception

“There not going to let you take a wolf through reception mate” Simon said

I looked at him, my hand gently running through Fina’s head, neck and back before starting from the top again. I glanced at Scott who was sitting beside me and then at Tim who sat up front with Simon

“There’s no way I can take her back to the pack. There’s clearly a traitor there and we don’t know who it is” I replied

“I know,” Simon sighed, “I’m just saying. We can’t take her to the pack but we can’t go to the hotel either…not without complaints and possibly RSPCA getting involved somehow”

“Maybe we should head home boss” Tim said quietly

“I was just thinking the same” I nodded my head

“Not without arousing suspicion” Scott added “You just woke up and no doubt it would be noted that we have all left the packhouse. That will alert the traitor already. And remember, Pete’s family is still there”

“s**t” I whispered “I forgot”

At the mention of Pete, Fina’s eyes looked brighter and she lifted her head, little whimpers leaving her as she used her tail to brush against Scott

“What Fina? What is it?” i asked her

When Fina thumped her tail on Scott again, I growled and bared my teeth at him. My mate! Mine! No-one else should be feeling any part of her body except me. Scott immediately put his hands up, shuffling as far away as he could

“Hey man” Scott said “I’m not touching her. I don’t go after mated females and I’m happily mated myself, remember?”

“Like that has ever stopped you” Simon scoffed

“What the hell Si” Scott growled “I’ve never cheated on Kels!”

“Well, technically not true. You and Soph…remember?” Simon mocked Scott in the same tone

Scott blushed, his eyes apologetic as he cleared his throat

“That…was a mistake and a long time ago” Scott grumbled

“You know” Tim said in amusement “I don’t actually know the ins and out of that situation properly”

“Well” Simon started “Scott here had a thing for Sophie and one nigh-”

“In the past!” Scott cut in “And I realised my mistake! Sheesh! You’d think after almost six years of being mates and almost four kids, you’d have moved on”

“Be glad I have or your body would be decomposing in an unmarked grave somewhere” Simon said, while baring his teeth

Tim let out a loud laugh as I chuckled at Scott’s palling face. When Simon smiled, I knew that while that situation still made him uncomfortable and sad, that he truly was over it. I looked at Fina who was watching me and I leaned down close to her ears

“I know you don’t understand it, but your special to me Fina and when you touched Scott with your tail; I got jealous” I whispered to her

When she tilted her head at me, my heart skipped a beat and if I wasn’t so sure that I would scare her, I would have kissed her forehead and then hugged her tightly to me. She was so damn cute when she did that.

“You got a little excited when we said Pete. Do you know him or someone of that name?” I asked her

Fina looked towards the window then back at me, her left paw stretching and her claws came out

“Does that mean no or that she doesn’t know?” Scott asked

“I’m not sure” I admitted “It’s ok Fina, we will figure it out”

“Ray, in the next ten minutes, we are about to enter Glasgow. What’s the plan?” Simon asked

“I think we need to leave but we don’t want anyone questioning and seeing Fina” I said “So let’s go to the pack, but stop at the hotel.

Tim can go in and check out and then we can put Fina in the trunk”

When she whined, I heard Tark growl in my head and I rubbed my nose against her snout.

“I’m sorry Fina but we can’t let anyone of them see you and if one of them so much as takes a step towards you, I’ll gut them” i said to her

“How are you planning on hiding her scent? She’s still a non-pack shifter. They’ll know as soon as she enters the territory” Scott asked

“Kai!” I said simply

“Yea” Simon said gruffly “He’ll know what to do”

“I’m not sure how I feel about you guys putting Kai in danger and using him like this” Scott frowned

Fina whined again and I smiled, rubbing the top of her head again

“Yes Fina. The same Kai that helped me find you. Scott’s his guardian but honestly…Kai is probably the king of all of us and could guard us all”

“DO NOT say that in front of him” Simon growled “He’s already too big for his boots without going all ‘bow-down-to-me-I-can-protect-the-world’ attitude”

Again we all chuckled

“Then?” Simon asked

“Then, we go back to the pack. We tell them, I just had to see the accident site for myself and that I had a hard time accepting it. We can say I went a little crazy and looked around for a bit before coming back. Then we need to sneak Fina in” I said

“How?” Tim asked

“I…don’t know yet. I’m still working on this plan” I huffed out a breath of frustration “But then we need to leave….again, I don’t

know yet how to make this all seem legit”

“That’s ok uncle Ray, I can help” Kai said

All of us jumped as Kai appeared, sitting in between Scott and I. Simon swore, the shock making him jerk the car as it swerved left and right for a moment; the horns of the other cars around us alerting us to how close we were to hitting one of them

“KAI!” Simon shouted, glaring at his son through the rear-view mirror “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE? WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT JUMPING IN AND OUT OF DANGEROUS SITUATIONS?”

“Mum and grandma moon said I could help” Kai said before turning to look at Fina, his smile innocent and pure “Hi Fina”

Fina barked, her eyes wide as she looked at Kai and then me. I realised that Kai was here but his full body wasn’t solid. Carefully I reached out and then jumped when my hand went through Kai like he was air

“Wow” Tim said, his neck turned as far as it could go, to look at us

“s**t” I whispered

“Kai!” Scott gripped “We agreed you wouldn’t do this again. I only came here because you promised me you wouldn’t leave the house again like that”

“But I didn’t leave the house” Kai said with a smile

“You can’t be here if you didn’t leave the house” Simon said with gritted teeth

Suddenly, Simon indicated and slowly pulled up onto the hard shoulder. Once safely stopped, he put on his hazard lights and unclipped his seat belt, turning to look at his son

“But daaadddd” Kai said, sounding like a child “I didn’t leave the house”

“How are you here then?” Scott asked

“And why the hell are you like a ghost?” Simon asked angrily

“Because” Kai said smugly “I’m projecting”

“Your what?” Simon asked, confusion on his face

“Projecting. It’s when your body is asleep but your soul leaves the body to travel” Kai said matter-of-factly

“What the f**k?” Scott whispered

“Kai!” Simon shouted, his smell of fear saturating the air in the car

“Don’t be scared dad. It doesn’t mean I’m dead. I’m sleeping right now in my bed with mum and grandma moon beside me” Kai said as he stroked Fina’s head

Simon pulled out his mobile phone while glaring at his son. We heard it connect and Simon growled loudly

“Kai” Simon said

“Oh; I take it he found you guys huh?” Sophie said

Turning on the speaker phone, Simon growled

“How could you allow him to do this soph?” Simon asked

“Since when have we ever been able to ‘allow’ or ‘deny’ anything Kai says or does?” Sophie scoffed “Aria told Kai something and he immediately ran to his room and into bed. How do you think I felt, seeing Aria appear in the living room as I sat with the kids to watch

some tv?”

“Aria appeared?” I asked, shocked “On her own?”

“Yes” Sophie sighed “then she disappeared. When I followed Kai and he told me what he wanted to do, I thought he was crazy. Except

Ophelia arrived and told me that apparently, not only is this possible but unheard of for the supreme to be able to do. I had to send the twins off with the babysitter”

“And you’re sure Kai is there right now?” Scott asked

“Yes. Right here” Sophie confirmed

“What the f**k does this even mean?” Simon shouted

“Simon!” Sophie shouted back

“Don’t! Don’t tell me my language is bad when we almost had an accident because my son has appeared out of thin air into my moving

car!” Simon said tightly

“Accident!” Sophie gasped “Are you ok? What happened?”

“We’re fine Soph” Scott said quietly

“I’m NOT fine” Simon shouted “What the hell Soph?”

“Apparently it’s real. In a few different religions, when we go into deep sleep; our souls leave and it returns when we are ready to wake. But this is something more; this is something apparently Kai and Aria can control and travel as need be but only to help; not like on a date or anything” Sophie laughed awkwardly

“Are you hearing yourself?” Simon said, pinching his nose and closing his eyes “Your telling me, my son is essentially dead until he awakes because he is projecting out to help us”

“This all makes sense now” I say, awed at their power

“What does?” Simon asked

“How Aria and Kai helped me when I was in that coma” I said.

As I explained to them what I went through, throughout this; Kai kept quiet, his smile directed at Fina who was looking at Kai with adoring eyes. I almost growled at Kai and I had to shake my head to clear my thoughts, remembering that he was a child and not even really here

“f**k me” Simon whispered

“And me” Sophie added

“We are going to have new rules mister” Scott said, looking at Kai “Once we get home, we are going to have some serious talks about this”

“This is going too far Soph” Simon said warily

“I know Si. I swear I didn’t know he could do this. Ophelia is with him just now and I don’t think she knew he could do this at all never mind at such a young age” Sophie whispered

“I better move before the police stop by. This would be hard enough to explain with a wolf in the car” Simon sighed

“I love you Si” Sophie said “Be safe”

“I love you too Soph” Simon smiled

“Love you too mum” Kai shouted out

We all chuckled, even Simon who shook his head and ended the call once Sophie returned the words to Kai. Sighing, Simon turned to look at Kai once again and with reluctant acceptance, allowed Kai to tell us his wisdom

“You’re right uncle Ray, there are traitors in that pack” Kai said, continuing to pat Fina’s head “There is a family there that helped”

“Yes” I nodded “Pete’s family. He’s still in a coma”

“I know. I’m helping his wolf to stay in it” Kai nodded

“Why?” I asked, gasping in shock

“Because Fina has to be away from here before he awakes and they realise he knows too much” Kai replied

Turning to Scott, he quietly spoke

“Uncle Scott, you need to protect their daughter Jen and her friend Tracy. I will give you two names that you need to speak to in order to help them before something worse happens to these little girls” Kai said with authority

“How will we get Fina into the hotel?” I asked “And how do I help her become human?”

“With patience” Kai said “And when her human side and shifter side are in harmony and ready to emerge together”

“What about the packhouse?” Scott asked “Who should I look out for?”

“For now, do not speak to them all about any plans, including their alpha” Kai said

“The alpha’s involved?” Simon asked with shock

“Not in the way you think dad. It’s for his safety” Kai explained “Aria is going to spell something on Fina. To other’s, her appearance will change. But to you all; she will look as she is. I will then take away the smell of her shiter side”

“You can do that?” Scott asked, his mouth open

“Easily” Kai smiled

“Kai” Simon said with a sigh

“I know you worry dad” Kai said with an age old wisdom “And as a dad, I won’t tell you to stop worrying. But I also know who I am…what I am and what my destiny is. And the responsibilities that come with it are not something I can run away from. Know that you and mum have taught me well and that I will always remain safe and keep those that I love; safe as well”

Simon’s eyes watered before he sniffed and tensely nodded. Scott cleared his throat a few times, a look of pride and awe entered his eyes. Tim looked at me in shock, his eyes wide as he shook his head. I just bowed my head in acknowledgement because I didn’t know what to even say after that.

“Well” Scott said gruffly “At least we know he ain’t gonna grow up and get drunk enough to wrap his car around a pole or get someone pregnant. He’s too mature for that”

“Why would I have babies with anyone else when Aria is my mate?” Kai asked, his face full of disgust “You have a mate uncle Scott, don’t you know how important that is? And getting drunk is disgusting! The smell is yuk”

Just like that, the tension evaporated and we all laughed at Kai’s innocence. Tim gripped Simon’s shoulder in support as he nodded and turned around to start the car again before merging with the traffic.

“You will them you found Fina when you were out looking at the site” Kai explained “Then you will address her as boy”

Fina whined and Kai touched her head and smiled

“I know but for now, it is the only way to keep you safe. I have the spell with me that Aria gave me. When I rub it into your fur, your appearance will change and I will make your smell will disappear. To them, you will smell like how you look” Kai said “But once you are back home with uncle Ray, you will be you again Fina”

“How will she look?” I asked, intrigued

“Like a very large husky” Kai admitted

“You’re turning my mate into a dog?” I asked, surprised

“We are already one and the same, don’t you know that?” Kai said, tilting his head

“He’s got you there” Scott laughed

I blushed, growling at Scott who covered his laugh with his fist.

“Go to the packhouse dad” Kai said to his dad “You don’t need to hide Fina. By the time we get there, the spell will be complete and no-one is going to question the dog situation. But make sure you leave by this weekend, that will be more realistic”

“After two days?” I asked, concerned

“Yes, because it has already been noted that you have all left the packhouse. The way you leave has to be done in a smooth and unsuspicious way” Kai explained “The other’s involved have to be kept safe too and that won’t happen if you leave straight away”

“Why can’t you just tell us who they are so we can end them?” Tim asked

“Because they are connected to an even bigger organisation that connects many innocent, tortured people to them. And that affects many important people including grandpa Magnus” Kai sighed

“Ok then” I shouted after everyone had started speaking at once, asking Kai question after question. Kai kept quiet through it all. “It’s obviously not the right time to ask questions. What’s next?”

For the remainder of the twenty minute journey to the packhouse, Kai kept to his word and dealt with Fina. He had pulled out a small cloth and untied it, the red powder sparkling as Kai started to speak in a foreign language. Kai’s hand glowed and Simon almost crashed the car again when a small red ball of fire left his hand and burned up the red powder until it became a black powder and the smell of grass wafted into the car. Kai spread that into Fina’s far, staring from the top of his head, all the way to the tips of her tail. He then whispered some words into her ears and placed my hand on top of her head before he said some words; almost like he was blessing us.

We had just entered the territory of the packhouse when Kai smiled and the dust on Fina’s fur evaporated. It didn’t fly into the air nor did it seep into her skin. One second it was there, and after he smiled - gone. Kai turned to me and placed his hand on top of mine once again

“It’s done. But now, you and Fina will be able to understand each other better. When you want to speak to Fina like a mate, go to the accident site and sit there. Anyone following you will only see you talking about your mate to your dog” Kai said “I gotta go. I heard mum talking about chicken nuggets. See ya when you get home dad” Kai smiled

Then just like that, without any of us being able to speak; Kai left., his body shimmering once before disappearing

“Damn” Tim whistled “That is both awesome and freaky. How can any one of us compete with him?”

“I know” Simon whispers

“Didn’t you hear him? Chicken nuggets” Scott said with a smile “He may be the super supreme one; but he’s still a kid Si”

Simon nodded even as he was silent, his thoughts no doubt all over the place. When we got to the gateway towards the house, a couple of the guards came out, their face doubtful and wary. Nick came out of the packhouse and stood by the car as Simon parked and we all got out

“Where did you guys go? When did you wake up Ray?” Nick asked

“He got up a few hours ago and said he wanted to back to Livingston. When I said no, he started getting ready to go himself. So we thought it was better for us to go with him” Simon explained

“What is that? Who is that?” A warrior asked, pointing to Fina

“When I was at the site where the van crashed, I was looking around and saw him. He came right over and just sat with me” I said, playing along as Kai told me to

Nick’s eyebrows lifted, his face giving nothing away as I tried to read him

“Why didn’t you guys tell us what was going on?” Nick asked

“No time” I answered without thinking

“For what?” Nick asked suspiciously

“I mean” I said “I felt like being asleep for two day’s I may have missed something at the accident site. I just had this rush; this need to see…my mate”

I cut off, indicating I was still hurting. Immediately, Nick’s stiff stance changed and he relaxed, nodding his head

“I’m sorry man” Nick replied “I can’t imagine what you must be going through to have lost your mate like that. Did they tell you?”

Nick nodded his head towards Simon. I frowned, unsure what he was talking about. I looked between Simon and Nick as the warrior beside him kept eyes Fina.

“We already buried him” Nick said with a sympathetic voice “To leave a mate like that…for you to see your mate like that” Nick

stopped and shook his head

I stiffened, annoyed that they all thought my mate was dead. I mentally calmed myself, ready to put on an acting performance of a life time

“I can’t talk about that just now” I sighed

“Of course” Nick said hesitantly “We understand. Some rest and food is properly needed. Our kitchen staff will send something up for you”

I nodded. As we all walked towards them, Nick placed a hand on my shoulder and looked at me. His eyes spoke of compassion even as he held his ground and stopped me moving forward

“I can’t imagine what you are going through but I hope you understand that we had no way of saving him without losing you too” Nick explained

“I know” I whisper “Doesn’t make it any easier to accept”

I move away from him, tapping my leg to let Fina know to follow me. We walk towards the door before a warrior steps in front of me.

When I raised my eyebrow at him, he looks at Fina, his arms folded

“He can’t go in” The warrior said

“What?” I asked, surprised

“You all are welcome to go in, but he can’t” the warrior replied

“Why the hell not?” Scott asked

“Because” Nick said, stepping forward towards us again “That is not a dog”
