Sydney
That was the best sleep I’ve had in I’m not sure how long. When I wake up it’s to the smell of breakfast. I look over to see Grace still asleep so that only leaves Henry, right? As soon as I think it Grace rolls over and stretches.
“Do I smell food?” She asks.
“Indeed you do.”
“Oh no.” She jumps out throwing open her door and running down the stairs. I have to run to keep up. She stops in the kitchen. Henry grins at us like a lunatic.
“Hungry?” He asks.
“Is it poisoned?” She asks him. His face falls but he catches him self.
“Try it and find out.” He waves at the island in front of us. It certainly smells edible.
Grace makes no move towards it so I take a step forward taking a piece of bacon. It tastes like heaven.
“I didn’t know you cook.” I say around the food.
“I don’t.” He admits. I shake my head piling a plate. Grace follows my lead.
“What’s the occasion?” She asks him warily.
“If we drink on empty stomachs we’re drunk before the party even begins.” He explains. I roll my eyes at this.
“Whatever. It’s good.” Grace says eating.
Breakfast is quiet and once everyone is done I clean up against there protests. Grace heads upstairs to take a shower leaving Henry and I alone.
“How’d you sleep?” He asks me.
“Great.”
He nods his head once but doesn’t add anything though from the look on his face he wants too.
“Cmon I wanna show you something.” He says standing and walking out the French double doors. I follow him suspiciously. He leads me out to the back yard where there’s a giant green house that I’ve never seen before.
“When did you get that?” I ask.
“Shortly after the party.” He says leading me inside. I gasp because it’s gorgeous.
“I didn’t know your mom did gardening.”
“She doesn’t. I’m not sure why she got it. Grace and I did this.” He says scratching the back of his neck.
“You. And Grace?” I ask slowly looking at him.
“Yes.” He says raising his brow. I only laugh and shake my head.
“I’d pay to see Grace get dirty.”
He smiles and it’s not his normal cocky smile he throws around. It’s genuine and it warms my body. I break eye contact first because that was weird.
We’re halfway inside when Grace comes out.
“What are you two doing outside?” She asks.
“He was showing me your art.” I say.
“You told her?” She asks flushing red.
Henry doesn’t respond so I drag her back into the house and up the stairs.
“Your secrets safe with me.” I say smiling. She rolls her eyes.
“Go take a shower so we can get ready.” She says pushing me into the bathroom.
When I’m finished in the shower I throw on shorts and a tank top and help Grace do her hair. We snack until dinner and then after we do our makeup and get dressed. She won’t let me look in the mirror until we’re completely ready.
We both decide since it’s a long drive and in the boondocks that flats will be best.
By the time we’re done it’s nearly seven o’clock. We had to stop so that she could style her brothers hair as well which stole some time. Finally she waves her hands. I walk to the mirror and gasp.
