“If he is going to make you feel alone the least that eh could have done is let you go to the salon.” Addison Huffed, looking at my hair. It was at least six months past it’s hair date and I definitely needed to have a revamp.
“Addi, you’re crazy.” I giggled, wiping some happy tears from my eyes when the car came to a stop.
“Come on, we are at the salon.” She smiled, pulling my hand until we were out of the car and I went to grab my purse.
“What do you think you are doing?” Addison glared ta the small black purse in my hand.
“I though-” The look in her eyes made me realize grabbing that thing would be my first mistake today and I set it back down in the vehicle. Then her usual smile returned, “Besides I’m getting you a real purse today after our little salon visit.” She pulled open the door and three women were standing at the front of the store.
“Do her first, and I want everything for her. Nails, pedicure, hair, eyebrows and then some make up.” Addison ordered, the women taking me to a chair in the middle of the room.
I spent the next few hours getting my hair touched up to a milky blonde, gel nails a little longer than my natural length in a light pink color and my toes done in the same color as well. After that was all done then they went and did my eyebrows and make up, I went with something simple.
After the two of us finished and we got back to the vehicle my eyes felt like a thousand tears were behind them, “What’s wrong?” Addison asked, stopping us in front of the car.
I fanned my face trying to stop the water works, “I- I just really needed this with you. I knew that you would know what to do.” I hugged her tightly. Her hands rubbing my back, “I promise, as your best friend I will always take care of you, O.” She rubbed my back and then we got into the car.
“Okay, so we have about an hour until we arrive at my family home and I think you will like everything we have to offer.” She said with an almost sinister smirk, there was something playful about the way she said everything.
“What do you mean?” I asked, looking at her like she grew a third head. I was just thrilled that I didn’t have to stay at that house.
“I just think you deserve so much better than what you have been given.” She paused, biting her bottom lip and looking at me with some plan that would probably go terribly wrong.
“Speaking of deserving better actually… How would you feel about maybe meeting my brothers?” She asked. Now, I am even more confused because why would my best friend in the whole world want me to meet her brothers after a terrible failed relationship.
I blinked while I tried to register her question, “You have brothers? As in more than one?” The questions rolled off my tongue. In a way it made sense though all the girls at the university tried to suck up to her on the off chance she might take them on some elaborate vacation, if she has brothers it would have been so much worse.
“Well… My family is a little bit unconventional..and they are home tonight, and I think they would love to meet you.” She said with a playful smile while she played with my hair.
There was something so unreadable about the way that she was talking about me. The way that she made it seem like they would actually enjoy my company. The way going to the salon and getting all these things done before meeting her family was planned. The air crackled with a sudden surge of energy, an unseen current that sent a shiver down my spine, and goosebumps to cover over every inch of skin on my body. The sudden mention of Addison's brothers, mixed with the expression on her face and the sudden shift in the atmosphere was enough to make anybody feel nervous.
When we finally arrived at Addisons home- the palace that she has spent her entire life I felt completely overwhelmed and safe at the same time. There was something about the place, some aura that made me feel like nothing would ever touch me here. When we got to the large gate that outlined the property, I saw the initial K engraved into the gate and then she was buzzed through, “Wow.” I gasped, looking at the italian styled home.
The creamy white exterior brick matched with the dark brown windows, doors, and the roof created a soft italian home and when we got to the front of the house, the large brown double door greeted us. Her house already was the complete opposite of everything that I had spent the last two years in, my home the second that you got to it was cold. The glass door threatened to break at the slightest mistreatment and the entire interior was white and black- a complete contrast to the warm vanilla color decorating the house.
Then there was the plants and flowers that decorate every inch of the property and eventually was met at the edge of a forest, the dark green tree’s offering some unknown safety that I was eager to walk towards.
“Wow, your house is amazing.” I sighed, taking in everything. I just wanted to crawl up into a bundle of blankets and breathe in the warm and safe feeling that hugged my body.
“Come on, let’s get you inside.” Addison sighed, grabbing my hand and walking the two of us through the sturdy dark brown doors, that again had her last name engraved into the door.
Everything about Addisons home was a refuge, a sanctuary. A place where I could begin to heal the parts of me that he broke.
