Chapter 3:Ophelia

By the time we finally arrived to Addisons home it was practically time for dinner but I already felt like an entirely new person. We were inside the living room, while I went over the mountains of books that adorned the bookshelves when I finally squeaked out a question. A question that I have been dying to ask since she told me about them. “Are they going to be mad that I’m here” I sighed, looking through the greek literature. Story after story about the gods and their children's tragic fates aligned the shelf. I heard her huff and I’m ninety-five percent sure she rolled her eyes, “No, they’ll be excited to meet you. I’m sure of it.” Addison reassured me before walking off somewhere. I got distracted in one of the books about the famous greek tragedy about Medusa when I felt someone’s presence, it was overwhelming. The room went from feeling like a rather cold fall day to down right boiling, I could feel beads of sweat dripping on my forehead. My heart was beating to a much faster pace then before and I had goosebumps covering every inch of skin, “Addi!” I shrieked, feeling my nerves build up. She raced down the stairs, “What’s wrong?” She asked, looking around the room. I did too, because I know what I felt and yet there was literally not a single person in the room with me. I shook my head, “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.” I whispered, looking at the words within the pages.Addison didn’t give up though, “What was it?” She asked, her hand on my wrist while she stared into my eyes. “I felt- It felt like someone was here. I was practically melting and I don't know.”I shrugged my shoulders trying to find a perfectly reasonable explanation. One that would make sense. Addison didn’t look annoyed with me though. I don’t think she would actually know how to look annoyed with me but right now she had that same playful look on her face. The one that screamed trouble when she spoke about me meeting her brothers. I raised an eyebrow, “Addi spill, please!” I begged her, trying to give my best begging eyes. “Come on, we need to go sit down for dinner.” She smiled, her arm going around my shoulders while she walked us to another room where the dining table and kitchen were located. The dining room had a smaller circular dining table made from soft light colored woods and sat about eight people. “Is there a specific seating?” I asked, looking at the table. I mean if this is supposed to be a family dinner then shouldn’t there have been some sort of naturally assigned seating? I mean there is four siblings and with two parents that puts it up to six and then there was me, so seven. “No, love just pick a seat and then they should start showing up soon.” Addison smiled and waited for me to pick a seat. I would like to think that I just picked a chair but the one in the middle in the circle appealed to me the most. “ Satisfied?” I asked with as much attitude as I could muster while Addison sat down across from me. She really is trying to get me to have some sort of conversation with these siblings of her. She just nodded and looked at the back door. Are they coming in through the back door? “So what do you siblings do?” I asked, trying to gain any leeway that I could on a conversation with her weird siblings. She looked back at me and there was a deep line that formed in her forehead while she tried to figure out the bets way to describe what they do. “In a way, they are in charge of the organization that our family runs, they just had a meeting with another organization and I think it went well. They had been trying to get that organization to agree to our terms for months when they finally caved.” Addison hummed enthusiastically. Then, out of nowhere I heard the sliding glass door open, teasing me with the silence as they made their way into the living and then the kitchen. The seconds felt antagonizing and the same heat simmered over my skin, my heart moving faster than I thought humanly possible and then the goosebumps covered every inch of skin on body. The mix of hot and cold sending a thrill through my body while I waited for the torture to end. I could hear a mixture of steps as they got closer, the tapping of different types of shoes as the warmth became more and more boiling. When the three individuals finally came into the room it felt like I was being left in a furnace and there wasn’t a drop of oxygen in the room. I could feel the sweat dripping down my back while I squirmed in the chair. When they finally stepped in front of where the wine and glasses were by the island, the last bit of air was sucked out of my lungs. Even before I could see them I could tell that they radiated power while they dominated every space they walked through. When they were in front of me, each one of them threatening to dominate the very air that I hoped to breathe again but in such different ways. The first one to walk into the room, everything about him made my stomach do twirls while goosebumps covered every inch of my skin. My body was on fire, sweating with just him in the room and I couldn’t even explain why. Did I ingest something? Maybe some herb that causes hallucinations or intense reactions? Otherwise, I’m just crazy. The way he looked at me, it melted me. My finger’s itched to move my chair out of the way and walk in his direction, but I didn’t. I sat perfectly still, avoiding his gaze while he burned me from the inside out. “Is this her?” he asked.
