Chapter4:Rowan

“Is this her?” I asked our little sister while my other two brothers, Kael and T came into the room. Our sister forever trying to figure out if we even had a mate brought her very human, very innocent best friend to the grounds. Something our parents would be more than pissed about, something they would definitely punish her for. So, why the hell did she do it? “Lily.” I groaned, rubbed the scruff on my face while I stare at the woman who wouldn’t meet my gaze. How rude can the human be? Coming into our home and not even daring to look at me? “Are you always this rude or do you make a habit of talking about your guest while they are right in front of you?” She snapped dropping her fork and looking at me with so much hate. If looks could burn, she would have thrown me into the hottest fire she could find. “Ophelia.” Lily gasped, looking at her friend like she said something completely unlike her. Maybe, she did. Considering that I don't personally know the woman. My second brother walked in, Kael, his eyes immediately went to the woman that I was trying my best to put a wall up with. He wasn’t wearing anything nearly as formal as me with his plain light colored loose jeans, black crewneck shirt and thick flannel jacket. He fixed his flannel while he stared into her eyes, making casual steps towards her with a smirk that could only count his most devilish thoughts. He stood next to her and she smiled, it was the cutest thing I had ever seen with the small blush dancing on her cheeks, the way she looked up at him with curiosity while he asked for her hand, nonverbally. She extended without hesitation and he kissed her hand, “kael.” He whispered, looking into her eyes. She giggled, it was a cute lighthearted and innocent giggle that wasn’t an effort at seduction or all the other possibility- no her laugh made me want to smile while she flirted naturally with my brother. “Ophelia.” She whispered. The name sounded perfect in my head. While Kael continued to try to woo the woman her and she let him without an ounce of the anger that I received. “Lily mentioned you.” I said with little to no warmth in my tone and her sweet, kind eyes turned into daggers. “I would assume so If I’m sitting at the table.” She rolled her eyes and looked at our sister with so much annoyance that I thought maybe she had poisoned the air with her aura. Kael, trying his hardest to keep her happy changed the topic and wooed her as fast as possible while pulling the chair out directly next to her, “ A pleasure to finally meet the woman who’s stolen our sister’s heart.” he said in a playful tone while his arm went over the back of her chair. Part of me was pissed off that he found talking to her so easily, why did he trust the woman so effortlessly? We have had crowds of women coming in here and pretending to be our mate, using the help of witches and vampires to fake the bond. Liam, always the necessary protector of our brotherly bond came into her view and his eyes broke down every barrier that she could have had, when the two of them looked eyes her skin flushed again and he nodded his head at her politely. “Do you want to have your dinner over there or do you want to sit down?” Ophelia snapped, looking at me as the only individual still completely opposed to having dinner with this woman. ‘What if she is a fake?’ I asked, my brothers. Waiting for them to counter with some reason why I should give her an excuse- especially Kael with him already deepening connection with her. ‘She doesn’t know anything about what we are. Shut up and eat dinner with my friend while you sort out your insecurities.’ Lily snapped at the three of us while Ophelia remained quiet. So, I made the move and finally chose the seat next to my sister on the other side of the table. Ophelia looked completely disheveled in her appearance with her cheeks flushed and sweat making it’s appearance around the edges of her hairline. She kept taking in deep breaths while her chest rose and fall at a faster pace than normal. I pointed my head in her direction for my family to see, ‘see, she is nervous about something and it’s giving her a panic attack.’ I smirked, knowing that I was right. This woman could not be trusted no matter how much my wolf wanted me too. ‘If the three of you are even going to start commenting on how nervous my friend is than maybe you should put into consideration that she spent the entire afternoon trying to look decent after her divorce got finalized today from her asshole of an ex. She was completely heartbroken about he idea of staying in a home that they picked on the idea of a future when you come in and immediately think the worst of her. She isn’t a snappy angry individual but you are making her so freaking uncomfortable that I don’t blame her.’ Lily lectured the three of us, huffing before she finally left the mindlink. I went to open my mouth and finally ask the vixen a question when she turned to Kael, “I’m really sorry, can you excuse me for a moment?” She whispered it to him and he was more than eager to move on the possibility that she would touch him. She ran out of the room as fast as possible, going up the stairs. Lily looked at me with daggers, “How did you manage to piss her off more than her husband was ever able too? I mean god dammit Rowan, I brought her here to have some peace.” She growled, her wolf coming forward and I shook my head. She knew as well as I did that if it came to a fight, I would always win with being one of the Alpha’s of the back. “Okay, I’ll go fix things.” I huffed. Throwing down my napkin on the table and excusing myself from the table.
