The Escape Plan
Hearing them say they had found my sister, I rushed down the stairs where I was greeted by the most horrific scene. "Oh no, Kara. Stay with me, you promised you wouldn't leave me with these monsters." I stared at her limp body as the men who had brutally attacked my sister were detained by the warriors. "Kara, I'm taking you with me. I promise you, I will make them pay for everything they did to you.
Three months ago....
Just three months ago, my father, Alpha Milton Frost, and our 'evil' stepmother, Luna Sandra Frost of the White Claw pack, sat me and my sister down to discuss the mating ball. It was their turn to host it. Our mother told us what to wear, how to talk, and how to act. Always saying that alpha daughters should hold themselves with poise and respect, be grateful to be born with such a background. "Your father and I depend on you finding your mates. Your brother is set to take over as alpha now that he has found his mate. That means you and Kara need to find yours as soon as possible," Luna Sandra said.
"I've invited neighboring packs in the hopes one of you will meet your mate. With that said, you both need to find appropriate attire for the ball. Go with your mother and find something," our father said. Kara and I walked into the dressing room with Luna Sandra where she had started picking out and trying on different dresses. I looked at Kara in this baby blue off-the-shoulder ballroom gown and I knew it was made for her. I looked at Luna Sandra and said, "That dress was made for Kara," Luna Sandra looked over, shocked by how flawless Kara looked.
"Find your dress now, Ana, don't worry about her dress," Luna Sandra replied, stealing a second glance at her younger step-daughter. Ana walked out into the showroom in a dress identical to Kara's. But the color was frosty mint green. The way the two of them stood together, you would never believe they were fourteen months apart in age.
"The ball starts at six. Don't you dare be late, or I'll send patrols out to find you," said my brother. Ever since Kade met his mate, Emily, he has pretty much forced us out of the family. He believes that because he is the future alpha of the White Claw pack, only him and his mate sit on top. "We will be there, Kade, you can stop being a pain in the ass. Ana and I don't want your position, we just want our mates so we can leave here," replied Kara.
Growing up, our late mom was the only one who understood and comforted us. That was until Kade brought Emily back home and made it known that everyone respected and cherished their future Luna. Dad is only trying to mate us off to ease his own pain of abandoning his two daughters. When the clock struck six and the bells sounded, Kara and Ana walked down the stairs and into the party goers. As Kara was pulling Ana to the corner of the room, Ana stopped and whipped her head to the left and her bright green eyes landed and met the hazy deep green eyes of alpha Zak Beck of moonlight pack. I spoke one word I feared but craved: "Mate."
"Mate," alpha Zak replied.
He took long strides, stopping only when he reached in front of her. He brought his hand to her face and brushed his fingertips across her cheek, shooting fiery sparks through each other. Zak grabbed Ana by the waist and pulled her flush to him, inhaling her scent while everyone around them stood watching. Kara, being her sister worried about her privacy, grabbed the pair by the arms and pulled them to a side hall, away from prying eyes. The love and hope in their eyes was something Kara prayed for. Ana looked at her sister and asked, "Why would you do that? You interrupted the most important moment of my life?"
"I was worried Ana, she was searching the crowd for us. I couldn't let her see you and your mate. You know she'll only make dad make him leave," Kara replied.
"Am I missing something? Asked Zak.
Kara coughed and said, "Our mother was the late Luna, Luna Marietta. She died when we were thirteen. Two months after she died, Sandra took refuge in our pack, and she looked similar to our mother, so our dad married her but never marked her. He said he wanted to wait until we were mated and ready to take over the pack." "But she doesn't want that, she is trying to keep us from taking over. She has tried to convince our dad to get her pregnant, but he says he doesn't want anymore kids. Especially one that is not his real mates... She refuses to let us leave," Ana continued after Kara.
"I need you to run away from here, Ana, after the meeting tomorrow. I can pick you up a few miles outside the pack borders. I can't take you across them if they won't let me take you from here," Zak said.
"But w-what about Kara? I can't leave her, Alpha Zak." Ana replied with a lace of fear and sadness in her voice.
Zak thought about it, then said, "We will have to come up with a plan and I will come back for her, but if what you say is true, and you leave, they will put Kara on lock down. I have to leave a few warriors to train pack members here so they will be my eyes and ears to be able to plan."
"What do you think about that Kara?" Zak asked.
"How long do you think alpha Zak? I don't know how long I can last on my own," Kara said honestly. Zak thought about it, pulling out his phone and opening his calendar. He scrolled to August and pulled up the day of the alpha meeting, always hosted by our pack. "What about the alpha meeting? That is three months away. That gives enough time to gather evidence, exit routes, and timing. Does that work for you, Kara?" Zak asked. Kara thought about it, then said, "What choice do we have?"
RESCUING KARA
"Kara, hold on, we are coming. You will be safe soon," I said. "Honey, you have to stay in the car, you can not be in danger," Zak said, turning to look at Ana, who was sitting in the passenger seat. "She is my sister, Zak. You can't expect me to just stay in here while you're out there practically kidnapping Kara," I replied. Zak sighed, then said "Ana, you're pregnant. If something happens to you, then I lose everything. I promise you, once I find her and I secure a route for you, Trever will escort you to us, deal?"
After a long pause, I caved. "Fine, but I want to know the moment she is found." I replied in a huff. We pulled off at the abandoned fruit stand where he picked me up three months ago. My heart raced as he put the car in park. Zak reached over and grabbed my hand, bringing it to his lips and kissed it. "Breathe honey, it won't take me long. Stay in the car and lock the doors. Trever and three top guards are all in wolf form and guarding the car. Remember our deal, Ana, please, for our pups' sake, for my sake, for our mate bond's sake," he pleaded with me.
I smiled, reached over and gave him a long, deep kiss fueled by love and fear. "I promise you my alpha, I will stay put and await your command," I said quietly. He kissed her back and got out of the car, commanding his warriors to stay and guard her. Ana sat in the car with fear and anxiety slowly eating at her as she watched him walk into the woods that lined her old pack's territory.
