Oli POV
I was the happiest man alive.
She was willing to give it another go.
She was willing to let me show her how much she actually means to me.
All night, the excitement I felt made it hard to sleep.
I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve, too excited about what tomorrow will bring to sleep.
I decided to burn some of the energy off and go for a run.
The town was beautiful at dawn; the sun cast its warm glow over everything, making everything seem brighter, or maybe it was brighter because I finally had a second chance with Cait.
A car beeped its horn at me as I ran along the pavement back to the hotel.
I ignored it and looked ahead, listening to the music pumping into my ears.
The car pulled over to the side of the road, blocking my path and making me stop.
I looked up, realizing it was Cait’s car.
I pulled my headphones out and jogged over to her, excitement building at the thought of seeing her again so soon.
“Hey, you wanna lift?” She asked, her eyes sweeping over my body.
Usually, I hated being objectified.
It made me feel like a piece of meat, but when Cait did it, I enjoyed it.
When Cait looked at me like that, it let me know she was just as attracted to me as I was to her, that she wanted me just as bad.
“Are you sure?” She smiled her breathtaking smile and pushed the door open for me.
“Do you always go out running this early?”
She had a coffee in a travel mug and she was taking a sip and looking at me.
“Eyes on the road, Caitlin!” I cried, making her chuckle.
“Sorry, dad.” She teased, making me smile.
“I go for a run whenever I can. What time do you finish work?”
She turned to look at me again.
The car swerved slightly, making me grab the dashboard and her laughing loudly at me.
“Stop being dramatic. I finish at 5.”
“Can I take you out?”
She smiled over at me, nodding her head.
“Cait the road!” I yelled, making her laugh her evil laugh that I had missed terribly.
She pulled into the hotel car park, turned the engine off, and turned in her seat so she could reach over into her back seat and grab her bag.
Her perfume drifted up as she moved past me, making my head cloud with the intoxicating smell.
“I’ll pick you up at 6. Is that ok?”
“Sure. I’ll see you later.”
I opened the door and climbed out and waited for her. She walked beside me and all I wanted to do was reach out and hold her hand.
It was like my body craved to be touching her.
I stood by the elevator door and watched her as she walked over to the front desk. She looked over her shoulder one last time, smiling at me before disappearing into the back.
I couldn’t stop smiling. I had not felt this happy for a long time.
Now I just needed something good to do with Cait.
“Where have you been? You have a video call with Bill in an hour.” Max shouted, waving his arms in the air dramatically.
I’m sure Max lived for the drama. His dark brown hair was messy, like he had just woken up, or he had been stressing out and running his hands through it.
“I went for a run. I’ll just shower and we can call him.”
Bill was my agent and wanted me to leave the show I had been working on for the last four years.
I was unsure.
I worked hard to make the show what it was, but maybe he was right and it had run its course for me.
I pulled my phone out and had a look at things to do in the area before jumping in the shower.
If I needed to book something, I wanted to make sure I did it with enough time.
I found a local farmer who played movies on the back of his barn, but he didn’t have a showing tonight.
I wonder if he will let me pay privately.
I quickly pulled his number up and called.
“Hello.”
“Hello, is this Mr. Compton?”
“It is. Who’s calling?”
“Hi, I’m Oliver Wilson. I saw you play movies on the back of your barn. Would I be able to hire the whole place tonight for a private showing?”
“I don’t do it tonight. It’s Saturday for the next one.”
He was a tough boot.
Or maybe he didn’t understand me.
“I know. I don’t mind paying extra.”
The phone was silent for a moment.
“Ok, it’s $500.”
“Done. Would I be able to swing by and set up a table and some lights?”
“Sure. Do you have the address?”
“I do thank you, Mr. Compton.”
I hung up the phone, happy with myself.
Cait will love this.
“Max, after this, we have to go somewhere. I need to get some stuff from the grocery store as well.” I shouted just as I jumped into the shower.
I could hear Max replying, but couldn’t hear what he said.
I was really excited about tonight and I hope Cait will like it.
The talk with Bill went on forever.
He was adamant about me moving onto something else, but I still didn’t know.
Things at the show had been going great, and I enjoyed it.
He did have some great points though, and some good things lined up for me.
It was a lot to think about.
Maybe this was a sign. Maybe Cait coming back into my life is a sign I should quit so I can spend more time with her, or maybe it’s a sign I should stick with what I love and enjoy.
“So, what do we have to do today?” Max asked, flicking through a book that was in the room already when I first got here.
He scrunched his face up, dropping it down again.
“I have a date with Cait later. I’ve hired a barn and we need to go get it set up. I need a table and chairs. Table cloth, candles, lights, some food, and wine. No actually, I need champagne.” Max nodded his head, taking in everything I said.
“Ok, you get the food and champagne. I’ll sort out the table, chairs, and lights. The candles we can pick up anywhere.”
We both walked onto the elevator and my stomach started to flutter, knowing I would be seeing her at any moment.
The door slid open, and she looked over, her beautiful face smiling back at me.
I lifted my arm and waved over to her.
I couldn’t move. I was mesmerized by her beauty. I felt a strong grip on my arm and the sensation of being pulled before the trance was broken.
Max was standing, shaking his head with a smirk on his face.
“You have got it bad.” He chuckled as he shoved me toward the car.
“How’s it look?” I asked Mr. Compton.
He had come over to see what film we wanted to watch tonight.
I chose the notebook, knowing how much Cait loved the film.
“It looks good Mr. Wilson.”
“Please call me Oliver,” I said, smiling at the old man.
“She must be a special gal to do all this for.”
“She is.”
I answered, smiling like a fool. I could feel hope blossom inside of me whenever I thought of Cait.
I had one last look around, happy with our efforts.
Max walked over and clapped me on the back whilst admiring his handy work.
“It looks great. She will love it.” He reassured me.
“I hope so. Shall we go?”
“Yep, come on Romeo.”
Max chuckled at his joke, making me shake my head.

Cait POV
I watched as Oli and Max came back after being gone most of the day.
He looked so smug and happy with himself.
His eyes swept over to me and his smile made the day all that more better.
I waved to him as he stepped onto the elevator, his eyes never leaving mine.
It was intense, but sexy.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” I shouted over to Mikayla as I got into my car.
“Have fun.”
She put her window down.
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
She winked and beeped her horn as she drove off, making me shake my head at her.
Driving home, my stomach came alive with butterflies. I was excited to see Oli tonight. I hadn’t stopped thinking about him all day.
I got home and kicked my shoes off by the front door. My feet ached from being on them all day and my neck and shoulders felt tense.
“Socks.”
He hadn’t been back all night, and I was starting to worry about him.
He usually doesn’t wander too far.
“Socks dinner time,” I shouted, shaking his biscuits.
I poured them out into his bowl and left them by the window for him, hoping he was close by and just off chasing birds.
I quickly showered and put on a pair of jeans and a one-shoulder sweater-style top.
I felt really nervous as I took one last look in the mirror.
Right on the dot, Oli was knocking on my door.
I opened it up and couldn’t help the smile.
“You look beautiful.”
An oversized stuffed bear with a big red bow wrapped around its neck said.
Oli’s head popped out from behind him with a wide grin on his gorgeous face.
“Thank you. I love him.” I beamed, taking the bear and putting him on the sofa.
As I turned back around, Oli was holding a large bunch of flowers.
“Oli, you didn’t have to do that,” I told him, taking the flowers off him and lifting them to my nose to smell the sweet scent.
“I know I didn’t, but I wanted to.” He was standing, holding his arm out for me.
I looped my arm through his as he led me to his car.
He opened the door, and I slid inside, watching him walk round to the driver’s side. God, why did he always have to look amazing?
It’s like he just rolls out of bed looking good.
The way he carries himself is so confident and sexy.
“Have you had a good day?” I asked, wanting to know all about what he had been up to.
“I have actually. The most beautiful woman in the world agreed to go out with me tonight.” I felt the blush creeping up my cheeks. I wasn’t used to getting so many compliments from men let alone one as attractive as Oli.
“Where are we going?” I asked, noticing we were on the road that headed out of town.
“A farm just at the edge of town.” He replied with a large smile, piquing my interest at what he had planned.
“Mr. Compton’s farm?” I asked as he pulled up.
He looked over at me and smiled his dazzling smile, making my breath hitch.
“Yes, come on.”
He got out of the car, running around to my side and opening the door, and took my hand.
The feel of my hand in his makes my stomach dance with butterflies.
He has the ability to make the butterflies dance without even being close to me, but when he touches me it’s like a flurry of fluttering.
We walk around to the back of the barn and I stop, shocked and surprised at what I see.
There are lights everywhere.
Twinkling above a table with two chairs.
In the center of the table are three candles all lit.
A wine cooler is beside the table along with a trolley with some plates covered up. The barn has a huge white sheet covering its side wall and on the opposite side is a projector.
Hay bales are placed all around the outside of the area.
I look at Oli, who is looking at me.
His eyes drilling into me, trying to read my reaction.
I was speechless.
“You did all this?” I asked.
“I had some help, but it was all my idea. Yes.”
He pulled a chair out for me, so I sat down whilst he pushed it in.
“Champagne?” He asked, his face quizzical.
“Yes, please. Oli, this is amazing.”
His eyes twinkled as his grin grew from ear to ear.
“You like it?”
He poured some champagne into the glass and passed it to me.
“It’s perfect.” It truly was.
The light twinkled above and around me and Oli looked dashing in his Jeans and T-shirt. It was more than perfect.
He passed me a plate just as the lights turned off and the barn lit up.
“The notebook?” I asked.
I knew he hated the notebook. He told me he would rather have all his nails ripped off than watch the notebook, yet here he was sitting beside me watching it.
I looked up at him, but he wasn’t looking at the barn, he was looking at me.
He nodded his head with his smile broadening.
The food was simple, but nice.
Chicken salad sandwiches and fruit.
Once we had eaten, we went and sat on one of the large hay bales.
The air started to cool, making it feel colder after the nice warm day we had today and I didn’t bring a jacket.
I wrapped my arms around myself to warm up a little.
“Here,” Oli said, lifting a blanket up from a box and wrapping it around my shoulders. He has really thought of everything.
“There’s room for one more if you’re cold,” I longed to be closer to him.
I held the blanket open for him.
He smiled and slid along the hay closer to me.
I tried to put the blanket over his shoulder, but I was struggling.
He was much broader than I remembered, so he took it, wrapping it around himself. His arm snaked around my waist, pulling me closer to him.
I couldn’t help the smile.
This felt nice.
I rested my head on his shoulder as we sat and watched the rest of the film.
Oli respected the boundaries I had set.
All night I wished more than anything that he would just lean over and kiss me, but he didn’t.
He put his arm around me and held me closer, but he didn’t once try to kiss me.
I was frustrated but impressed at the same time.
As we pulled up to my house, I noticed my bedroom light was on.
He walked me to my door, but still no kiss.
Just a goodnight and sleep well and off he went.
I will admit, I stood watching him as he walked away.
The way his body moved made my imagination work in overdrive.
I kicked my shoes off and made my way up to bed.
The light shone through the small crack at the bottom of the door.
As I pushed the door open, the room was dark.
I was positive the light was just on, though.
In fact, I’m certain it was on.
I flicked it on and looked around.
Nothing seemed to be out of place or missing.
I must have had too much champagne tonight and just thought it was on.
I undress and put some pajamas on, then walk into the bathroom to take my makeup off before I climb into bed.
I close my eyes and think back on the wonderful night I just had with the most amazingly sweet and insanely handsome man.
A floorboard creaks outside my room.
I freeze as a cold chill runs through me, listening to see if I hear it again.
I flick the lamp on by my bed and grab the only weapon I can find in my room.
My hairdryer.
I hold it, ready to hit whoever has broken in.
I swung the door open to see socks sitting in front of my door, wanting to come in.
“Jesus Christ socks, you gave me a heart attack,” I pant whilst holding my chest.
I put the hairdryer back on the vanity table and get back into bed.
Socks jumped up and got comfortable beside me.
