Dylan helped Elyndra clean up and take Levi’s body back to her place for a proper burial. He was quiet the entire time, not sure what to say or do. She broke the silence.
“It’s okay Dylan,”she said softly, “I know there wasn’t much you could do with an Alpha order. And I know you didn’t want to do it.”
He clenched his fists as he stood with her in her backyard beneath the moon. “I - I just don’t understand how he - Levi was only protecting you. He wasn’t going to cause trouble. He - he wasn’t even at full strength, he -“
Elyndra put her hand in his arm, “Sometimes, we may never know. We have to accept that, otherwise the what ifs will eat us up,”
He was quiet for a moment, “how can you, you of all people, still have such faith in the Moon?”
He watched her look up, “It’s hard sometimes, really hard. But without her, I don’t know if Ethan would have had enough faith in himself to stand up to Silas all those years ago. If my grandmother hadn’t had faith in the Moon, I don’t know if she would have been able to save me. I don’t know why the Moon Goddess puts us in these situations, these trials, but -“ she turned to him, “I told Levi tonight, while she has a fate for us, she also gave us free will. With that free will comes choices and the choices we make can change that fate she has written for us. But with choices comes consequences - good or bad - and we have to own up to them,”
He looked at her, she seemed to have a slight glow to her. It was different than before what happened. Something changed inside her. He gave her a half smile, “El, you are indeed blessed by the Moon Goddess. I will continue to have faith in her. Hopefully, she’ll bring me to my mate soon,”
They stood in silence for a while longer before he asked the question he was burning to ask, “El, I know you don’t divulge the information you get from rogues, but…was he really an alpha?”
“Yes. I think he was lost, he couldn’t remember much, not a pack name or a last name. I would still like to help him, try to find out where he came from, that’s all he wanted. He wasn’t looking for power, I don’t even think he knew he was an alpha,”
“I will see what I can find out for you. I have to go though,”
She nodded and walked him to the front. They said good bye and when she closed the door she broke down crying. There were no romantic feelings for Levi, but the way he had put so much trust into her, so much belief that he stood up for her. He was a lost soul who died after she promised no harm would come to him. She had never broken a promise before and that ate her up.
She managed to change into some sleep clothes when she heard a knock at her door. She opened it surprised to see a young man, well really she couldn’t tell with werewolf genes, standing on her porch looking a bit nervous. He had soft brown hair and hazel eyes that twinkled in the light. He wasn’t a rogue, but he wasn’t from her pack. He must be the Beta interning here.
“Hi, how can I help you Beta?” She said softly.
