CHAPTER 16 SILENT THREAT Lisa sat at the elongated timber table and waved goodbye to her students at the African Foundation. A chill in the air made her shake but she ignored her unease as she peered through the piles of papers. Reading the first few lines of Nuru’s personal biography made her legs turn to jelly. As she skimmed through the story, her hands gripped the paper as he recounted one atrocity after another. Not only did his parents get killed by the rebels over in Central Africa, but his younger sister was raped and crippled by them too. Luckily, his sister had come to Australia with Nuru and was part of a supportive school. It turned out well in the end but not for his poor parents.
