Chapter 34: An EncounterDavid took the basement stairs two at a time. He preferred finding Ardith rather than pouring over the contents in his briefcase. If he went through them today, his night would be free to see her or invite her to his room. If the board made up its mind, he wouldn't need to fear her hearing his two hearts. She would know he possessed them.
At the top of the stairs, he glanced out the French doors toward the pool, but didn't see Ardith's blonde head. He whirled around to walk down the hall towards the other staircase and almost knocked a swimsuit clad Myra down.
He reached out with his left hand to steady her.
“I'm sorry, Myra. I was in too much of a rush.” He stepped to the side to continue down the hall, but Myra put her hand on his arm and smiled up at him.
