New Town, New Beginnings
Lightning crashes, thunder rolls. On the edge of a cliff I stand. Waves crash onto the rocks as I look at the treacherous scene below. How I’d hate to fall right now I think. “Ayla..” the whispers start. “Ayla!” They grow louder and louder til silence falls across everything. Even the storm stopped. I find myself facing a meadow now, the sound of laughter in the air. I turn to my right and see a dazzling smile. “You’re beautiful.” A deep sultry voice says. I try to look up to get the man's features but all I’m met with is the sun beaming in my eyes. The laughter of children is still in the background as the scream for their daddy and mommy. “Ayla.” the man says. “Ayla!”
I wake up startled. “Ayla!” My mom yells. “ Ayla Rae, you are going to be late for school!”
“I’m up mom!” I shout. It’s my first day at yet another new school. As much as i love to travel it would be nice to start and finish a school year at the same place. I quickly shower and change into a pair of skinny jeans and a powder blue shirt. I make my way downstairs and my nostrils are picking up a delicious smell. Bacon! Mom is making breakfast? What’s the special occasion?
“Hey mom, what are you cooking?”
“ Hello dear, I’m making breakfast to celebrate!”
“What are we celebrating?” I ask carefully.
“We are celebrating on our forever home!”
“ you mean this is it? We get to settle down here? No more moving? No more being the new kid?!” Excitement is pouring out of me.
“That’s right honey. You get to graduate at this school. Daddy’s job finally has him not moving around anymore. And the alpha of this territory has offered us this place to stay.”
Oh right, I forgot to mention that we are werewolves. We’ve been moving around a lot because my pack, the blue moon pack, assigned my dad the job of meeting with all the packs near us. The newest Alpha he is meeting is that of the Black Sky pack. The biggest and most feared pack in all of the United States. Alpha Matthew is about to retire and his heir will soon replace him.
“We’ve been invited to the Alpha Ceremony.” My mom says. “It is this tomorrow. I know that is your birthday, but the alpha is offering us to be a part of his pack permanently and we want to honor his family by being there.”
“Yes, mommy. I understand. It’s not like I have very many plans or have made many friends yet.”
“ oh speaking of friends! It’s time for you to get to school. I love you. Be safe!.”
“ I love you too mom! Give dad a kiss for me!” I say as I make my way to the door of the garage. My matte grey Jeep is waiting for me. I open the door, throw my backpack in and step up to slide into the driver's seat. I start him up and back out of the garage and make my way down our gravel driveway toward the high school. Adventure is calling me over being somewhere new. My Senior year at Clawwood High will be absolutely amazing.
