Chapter 3

ANGELO'S POINT OF VIEW I heard the knock at the door and instantly, my enhanced wolf hearing got piqued. “You don't think that's really our Olivia right?" Antonio asked me after hearing the man introduce someone as Olivia. We were currently in the middle of a video game that unfortunately, he was beating me at. I paused the game then turned to look at him with a raised brow. “Our Olivia?" I asked. He rolled his eyes. “Your Olivia, sheesh. No need to get all possessive". I shook my head at him. I heard my aunt welcome them in and almost immediately, her wonderful scent of lavender and pine filled my nose. “It is her", I said. I was instantly filled with excitement and panic. What are the odds that I'd get to live right next door to my mate. I was excited for the extra time I'd get to spend with her but I was nervous about the kind of impression I was going give her. I needed her to like me— no, I needed her to love me. “Dude, what are you thinking about?" Antonio asked. “What I'm gonna wear to go see her", I replied. He face palmed. “Dude, you're in your own house, you can wear whatever you want". “I have to make a good impression". Right now, I was just in boxers and I knew I didn't want her to see me this way, at least not yet. I threw on a pair of dark ripped jeans and I grabbed my sweatshirt. I noticed that Antonio was dressed in a similar outfit. I heard my aunt yell for us to get down. Antonio and I shared a look and rolled our eyes at that. “We better get down there", he said. “How does my hair look?" I asked him. “Oh for Pete's sake, you look great". I flipped him off and headed down stairs. I considered jumping but decided it would freak out Olivia and possibly her grandparents. They smelled human. I put on my best smile and walked into the sitting room. “Oh you're here", my aunt said at our arrival. The look of shock on Olivia's face was comical. “This is my nephew Angelo and his best friend and a dear friend of the family who lives with us, Antonio". “It's very nice to meet you", I said then turned to Olivia, “Nice to see you again Olivia". She blinked a couple of times. “You two already know each other?" my aunt asked confused. “Uh yeah, they go to our school", Lila answered. It was then I finally realized there were other people in the room. It was hard to take my eyes off Olivia. I noticed she was dressed in a tank top and some shorts that showed off her fabulously long legs. She had her face bare of any makeup and she looked absolutely perfect. “Hey Lila, hey Andrew", Antonio greeted. We were introduced to her grandparents and we all sat together eating the treats they brought with them and playing games. I made sure that I sat beside Olivia. Eventually, the adults went to do their own thing and they left us kids to talk. “So, what are the odds that you live right next door to Olivia?" Lila asked sounding suspicious. I shrugged. “Guess I just got lucky", I answered. “How does it make you lucky that you're living next door to me?" Olivia asked. “Believe me Olivia, it makes me very lucky", I said with a wink that made her blush. “Hey that means Olivia can ride to school every morning with you guys", Andrew suggested. I don't know why I didn't think of that myself. It was a brilliant suggestion. “Oh no, I wouldn't wanna intrude", Olivia started but was cut off by Antonio. “Nonsense. We'd love to have you join us". “Thanks guys", she said smiling. I smiled back at her. How could anyone be so perfect? “Anyway, are you guys planning on joining any school teams. There are technically only two teams available, basketball and tennis", she continued. Antonio and I looked at each other. Did we want to join any teams. “Are you guys on any teams?" he asked. “Yeah actually. We're all on the basketball team... well the boys and girls team", Andrew answered, “tryouts are next Friday, you guys should try out". I thought about how it should be kinda illegal for two werewolves and one half werewolf to be on a high school team. They had advanced reflexes and would definitely overmatch the other team. Oh well, life's not fair. “I'm in", I answered. “Me too", Antonio added. I noticed that Olivia kept checking and checking her phone and she looked sad. My heart went out to her. I instantly wanted to bury her in my body and comfort her. I was the only one that noticed because the others were busy discussing cars. “mio cuore (my heart in Italian) are you okay?" I whispered to her. “What's that? What did you just call me?" she asked. I was confused before I realized that I had just called her my heart in Italian. I dunno how she'd feel about that so I kept quiet. “Nevermind about that. I can see you sulking. What's wrong?" “Oh it's nothing. I'm just waiting for my boyfriend to call". It took every bit of self control I'd ever mastered and then some to keep from growling. I didn't even know that my fists were clenched until I felt her smooth palm on mine. “Hey Angelo, are you okay?" I saw the look of concern in her eyes. I loved the way my name sounded on her lips. I focused on her, on the way the light from the window caught on her hair causing it to glisten, on the way her skin was impeccably smooth, on the way her eyes looked concerned about me, on the way her bottom lip jutted out just a little giving her a naturally pouty face. At once I wanted to kiss that pout away. She had helped me calm down without even knowing and without even trying. At this point, I don't know what I'd do without her. “I'm fine Olivia", I answered placing my hand on top of hers. “You sure? Cause you looked like you kinda lost it back there for a minute". “I'm fine Luna. Honestly". She raised her brow at me and I once again realized that I had slipped up and called her another pet name. “Did you just call me moon?" I was about to reply but luckily my aunt and her grandparents walked in. “It was nice meeting you all but we've gotta go", her Grandpa announced. She looked at me with narrowed eyes and mouthed, "this isn't over". I chuckled at her. We all stood up as we saw them to the door. “We'll see you tomorrow", Antonio said. Once we were done with our goodbyes and I made sure they got into their house safely, we closed the door. “So, that's your mate", Elena said to me with a smug expression. I feigned shock, “I have no idea what you're talking about", I said as I dashed up the stairs. “Sure, like I didn't hear you guys talk about her", Elena said. She didn't have to yell because my wolf hearing picked it up. I laughed. I loved Elena. She was my dad's younger sister and yeah, she was a werewolf. She looks young, a human would think she was in her late twenties but she was actually almost a century old. That's a thing about us werewolves, we age normally till we hit twenty five and then we start aging really slowly from then on. We also have really long lives. When I told my parents that I wanted to move to America, my dad instantly called her considering she lived here but she had to move to Willowswoods since she lived in New Orleans before. She offered to be our guardians here and I had no objections. I would never tell her this out loud but I am going to be eternally grateful to her for buying this house that's next door to my mate's. Antonio had gone to his room and I entered mine. I laid on the bed and took out my phone. I had this urge to talk to her but I didn't have her number and we didn't have the mental connection yet. Werewolves can talk to their mates telepathically but there's no definite time for it to happen. Sometimes it happens after the mating bond is complete, other times it happens a long time after that. Other times it happens immediately you lay your eyes on your mate. It's basically different for every wolf. I wondered when Olivia and I would get ours. I knew it would totally freak her out but I would gladly explain everything to her. I missed her. I got up and walked to my window and boy was I in for a shocker. I opened my window and saw the same person I was thinking about standing outside on what must be her bedroom balcony. I must have done something really wonderful for life to have rewarded me this way. Not only was I living next door to my mate but my window also opened to her balcony. Thank the moon goddess. “Hey Olivia" I said to her. She looked at me in surprise that quickly turned to joy at seeing me. I guess she must have been missing me too. “You know, I was just thinking about you", she said. That made me really happy. “Well what's odd is that I was actually thinking about you too". I didn't wanna point out that what was odd was that we didn't have to yell because our wolf hearing could pick up on each other clearly. I'm sure she didn't notice it and I knew I'd freak her out if I pointed it out so I kept quiet. It had already gotten dark but I could see her as clear as if it was day. She was dressed in pajamas and she looked downright adorable. We talked the night away. It was nice. It didn't feel like today was the first day we were meeting. It felt like I'd known her forever. She stretched and yawned and I knew it was time to call it a night. “We should go get some sleep. We have school tomorrow". “Yeah" she yawned again, “goodnight Angelo. It was nice meeting you today". I smiled and watched as she walked into her room and closed the balcony doors shut. “Buonanotte cuore mio", I said after she had left which translates in English to, "goodnight heartbeat". I took off my clothes and lay on my bed in nothing but my boxers. I had dated girls before but I had never ever called them anything but their names. I didn't even think of myself as the kinda guy to give pet names but look at me now. I took out my phone and I saw a text from Aria that I didn't open. I opened ** and the notification that Olivia had started following me made me smile. I made sure to follow her too and I even sent her a DM. I didn't feel like going through her pictures because I knew they'd be filled with pictures of her and the human guy. I decided to fill my head with thoughts of Olivia and soon, I was fast asleep.
