A couple hours later the Hugheses’ big SUV pulled into the drive at the Cartwright’s farm. Jack and Eddie were out of the vehicle almost before it came to a full stop. Tyler and his parents got out behind them. The boys ran to Ward, who had been sitting on the porch waiting for them. He got up just as they reached him. They threw their arms around him and demanded, “Where are they?”
“They’re in the cob shed, but we have to be quiet so we don’t excite Zeta. New moms can sometimes get upset if there’s too much commotion.”
“Okay,” Jack and Eddie said in unison just as Tyler arrived. Tyler put his arm around Ward’s shoulder and gave his neck a squeeze.
Surprised at Tyler’s open show of affection, Ward turned to him and smiled. “Good morning to you, too.”
